All I needed to see (that no one else seems to have noticed) was at about 8 seconds on the video where Artest clearly says to Serge Ibaka “What? What’d I do?!” to know that he had no fucking clue what just happened.

I don’t think he says “What’d I do?” at any point. He has the crazy Ron Artest look going on, with an adopted fighting stance while Ibaka charges at him. And just based on the wind-up alone, there is no way Ron didn’t know he just elbowed someone.

The man clearly took his time in winding up his elbow.

I used to teach middle school and they’d pull shit like that all the time and once caught try to pull the “what? what i’d do?” when they smack someone when they’re “not looking” or “just waving their arms”

I was more of a fan of:

Teacher/Parent: “Why would you do something like that? Are you mad at the somebody, the school, the whole world?”

Me: “I don’t know”

Last I checked a concussion is a brain injury and very serious.

It’s just funny to me that we’re now all of a sudden not calling them concussions anymore, but “brain injuries”. When Wade concussed Kobe in the All-Star game, it was still called a concussion. When it happens every weekend in the NFL, it’s a concussion.

I’m not saying Artest deserves jail time or some season long suspension. I have no problem with 7 games. Artest threw a high elbow after feeling the presence of a body and now he has to deal with the consequences. Throw a high elbow and you’re probably going to hit someone in the head.

Ha- it basically appears that we agree on the big picture (punishment), but disagree on the details of what occurred. I’m cool with that. I was more reacting to people just killing Artest. I think he got what he deserved.

I think we’re actually pretty close to agreeing. I see guys bump after made baskets frequently when I watch basketball (whether the guy is waiting for the inbound or as you’ve suggested stepped in the way). Typically when I’ve seen a play like this the worst is a little shove or slap on the guys back and then maybe the normal NBA “hold be back” fight.
