Cliff Lee Joins Philly’s Star-Studded Disabled List
Cliff Lee was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday, three days after straining his left oblique in San Francisco, where he went 10 scoreless innings in a 1-0 loss to the Giants, thanks to the thoughtless Philadelphia bats.
In the interest of creating a story, people will be looking to point the finger at Charlie Manuel for leaving him in too long, but Lee threw 102 pitches. It’s not like we’re talking about an Al Leiter, 137-pitch special here, so let’s all do our best to get a grip.
Nonetheless, the addition of Lee to the DL brings the tally of the Phillies’ payroll serving as inactive dead weight to a whopping $56 million. The team is currently a game under .500 and tied for last place with the Marlins. The hope is that Lee will only missing a couple starts. That’s the hope.
In mean time, enjoy the work of starter Kyle Kendrick and Joe Savery.
