I’m convinced that a player like Cadillac Williams was impacted negatively by having more carries through his first four games than any other rookie, and he was a shell of himself by age 25

Williams had 99 caries (27, 24, 37 and 11 before injuring his hammy in the 3rd quarter) and 3 receptions in 4 games.
Eric Dickerson had 97 carries (31, 18, 20, 28) and 6 receptions in 4 games. He had more touches and it didnt seem to hurt his career. In fact he had 769 carries and 72 receptions his first two years, compared to Cadilac’s 415 & 50.
Williams being a shell of himself by 25 had more to do with the torn patellar tendon (knee) injury he suffered in year 3 than it did his first 4 games of carries.

If Richardson averages *only* 17 carries over his first four years, rather than 23-24 a game, and with the ever-growing salaries of veterans, it may not be such a bad time to be a star back after all.

if he goes to a team that is more pass than run he could have a nice long career, or at least a relatively light load his first 4 years.
