Wow. Ya gotta wonder what might have been. I remember hearing the hype about him when the Rays drafted him. He has a ton of talent, and it’s sad that he derailed his career for a time.

Yep lots of potential. Our best pitching prospect, Jordan Lyles, isn’t even with the big league club right now. And Crosart, who we picked up from Philly in the Pence trade, is getting seasoned on the farm. We should have a couple of really good arms in just a couple of years.

2014 is when I think they will be able to start putting it together. The Angels and Rangers are in their primes now, but aren’t getting younger. Josh Hamilton, who wasted what would have been his best years in a drug induced haze, is already 30 and turns 31 next month. Power hitters start to lose their bat speed around 34-35 (see Lee, Carlos) and he has had injury problems too. The Rangers are a lot of fun to watch now, but their core has a short shelf life. Same with the Angels. Pujols will be good for awhile, but their supporting cast isn’t what it used to be. I think the Stros will peak at the right time.

Maybe, but that Rhiner Cruz has the potential to be nasty. Low three-quarter motion, throwing low-to-mid 90s. That’s a handful.

To me, he is the kind of infielder good teams have to have. Good defender, stings the ball/makes consistent contact at the plate. I like his game as well.

Martinez carries himself like he believes he belongs. To me, that confidence is a large part of success at that level. I thinks he’s gonna be a good one.

Next year, in the AL West, they may not catch the Rangers, but they can compete with the Angels, A’s and Mariners.

Absolutely. Just really young pitching (outside of Rodgriguez). They will make mistakes. But I think Weiland could be something special some day too. Our bullpen is going to give me heartburn this year though. I can already tell.

Bogusevic was drafted as a pitcher out of Tulane, so that he’s managed to develop into a decent outfielder and a good bat is impressive. I’m a fan of J.D. Martinez, Travis Buck, and Bogusevic. But I think Schaefer has the greatest ceiling.

Lee, I think, appreciates being entrenched at first. He’s not getting worn down chasing balls around the outfield. This was a great move by the team to put him at first. Between Schaefer, Lowrie, and Buck we’ve got a good core. Altuve isn’t bad at second either. And I’ve been a Jason Castro fan since we drafted him. I’m not sold on Chris Johnson at third. He’s a better option than Brett Wallace, but both of them have only provided teases: they heat up and then fall off the table in production. I’ve been burned by Johnson more than once before.

I’m liking this young Astros team.

I know it’s early, but even Carlos Lee seems engaged. I like Johnson at 3rd, and some combo of Buck & Bogusevic may eventually give you offense from RF. Your pitchers aren’t bad, but they gotta stay healthy & keep focused during the middle innings.
