FOX Preparing to Cram Premier League Up Middle America’s Wazoo
FOX has unveiled further plans to cram the English Premier League up Middle America’s collective wazoo. Soccer is coming for them. Those poor Luddites will not even find refuge from hostile local affiliates. The EPL plays all 10 matches at once on the season’s final day to keep teams honest. FOX will deploy its entire arsenal of networks to televise nine of them on Sun. May 13 in an event termed SURVIVAL SUNDAY.
Manchester United should have won the title by then, which is perhaps the least relevant race. You’ll potentially have Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle still battling for two Champions League places (a $60 million bonus) and Aston Villa, Wigan, QPR, Bolton and Blackburn still battling to avoid relegation (a $40 million loss).
That would make 8/10 matches still relevant. If Manchester City is still within range of Man U for the title, that would make it nine. The most intriguing could be Chelsea and Blackburn both needing a win. No matter what happens, the result of Liverpool vs. Swansea City will be absolutely meaningless.

Relegation Day is the absolute best.

That’s awesome, I think it’s a great idea for them to do this.

Looking through and checking your math would have been easier had I read on to this

Good on ‘em. Saturation bombing. Hope they do this or something like it every year.

Speaking of which, what kind of aircraft were you a navigator on during your career SROD? I feel like you mentioned it before, but I can’t recall and am curious.

ms, I started out on KC-135A/R models, then went to RC-135 (COBRA BALL/EYE, COMBAT SENT, RIVET JOINT). Good times.
OBTW – your Astros have hung up a 5-spot on the Nats, top of the first. Three different guys hit triples for Houston.
April 19th, 2012 at 7:29 PM
That’s right I think you did mention those before. Crewing those KC-135s is probably one of the most under-appreciated positions in the military today. You have to loiter for hours upon hours at rendezvous points waiting for strike aircraft to arrive and let’s not forget your aircraft is filled with ridiculous amounts of fuel.
I’m liking this young Astros team. Jordan Schaefer looks like he could be the real deal. It’s nice to see them make young mistakes this year instead of the incompetent mistakes they made last year. If we had some better pitching, we’d definitely have won a couple more already this season.

has to be a record or tied for it. triples are the most rare EBH no?

Being a “crew dog” was fun. During orbit time, we would monitor what’s going on in the AOR, but there was always time to talk smack. Pretty similar to what we do here every day. Sports, girls (unless a female was on crew that day), politics, current events.

I know it’s early, but even Carlos Lee seems engaged. I like Johnson at 3rd, and some combo of Buck & Bogusevic may eventually give you offense from RF. Your pitchers aren’t bad, but they gotta stay healthy & keep focused during the middle innings.

appears the stros are now record holders

Most by a team in one game is 9, done in 1894.
F.P. Santangelo (MASN announcer) said three for the Astros in one inning was a team record.

Absolutely. Just really young pitching (outside of Rodgriguez). They will make mistakes. But I think Weiland could be something special some day too. Our bullpen is going to give me heartburn this year though. I can already tell.
Bogusevic was drafted as a pitcher out of Tulane, so that he’s managed to develop into a decent outfielder and a good bat is impressive. I’m a fan of J.D. Martinez, Travis Buck, and Bogusevic. But I think Schaefer has the greatest ceiling.
Lee, I think, appreciates being entrenched at first. He’s not getting worn down chasing balls around the outfield. This was a great move by the team to put him at first. Between Schaefer, Lowrie, and Buck we’ve got a good core. Altuve isn’t bad at second either. And I’ve been a Jason Castro fan since we drafted him. I’m not sold on Chris Johnson at third. He’s a better option than Brett Wallace, but both of them have only provided teases: they heat up and then fall off the table in production. I’ve been burned by Johnson more than once before.

still in it, in a more boring way (trade publications) tho i guess it depends on what you’re interested in

yep, saw that. we’re talking 1 inning tho. can’t believe it’s this hard to find. someone hit up fetch on twitter

To me, he is the kind of infielder good teams have to have. Good defender, stings the ball/makes consistent contact at the plate. I like his game as well.
Martinez carries himself like he believes he belongs. To me, that confidence is a large part of success at that level. I thinks he’s gonna be a good one.
Next year, in the AL West, they may not catch the Rangers, but they can compete with the Angels, A’s and Mariners.
April 19th, 2012 at 7:45 PM
i remember adrian gonzalez hit a triple in Class A and joked that he thought the only way he’d ever get one is if two of the OF collided and the ball rolled into a corner

Maybe, but that Rhiner Cruz has the potential to be nasty. Low three-quarter motion, throwing low-to-mid 90s. That’s a handful.

2014 is when I think they will be able to start putting it together. The Angels and Rangers are in their primes now, but aren’t getting younger. Josh Hamilton, who wasted what would have been his best years in a drug induced haze, is already 30 and turns 31 next month. Power hitters start to lose their bat speed around 34-35 (see Lee, Carlos) and he has had injury problems too. The Rangers are a lot of fun to watch now, but their core has a short shelf life. Same with the Angels. Pujols will be good for awhile, but their supporting cast isn’t what it used to be. I think the Stros will peak at the right time.

Yep lots of potential. Our best pitching prospect, Jordan Lyles, isn’t even with the big league club right now. And Crosart, who we picked up from Philly in the Pence trade, is getting seasoned on the farm. We should have a couple of really good arms in just a couple of years.

Wow. Ya gotta wonder what might have been. I remember hearing the hype about him when the Rays drafted him. He has a ton of talent, and it’s sad that he derailed his career for a time.
Fighting addiction isn’t easy. Not everyone succeeds. God bless him for fighting day by day.

there have been plenty who have gone down that road and not come back like him too

Angels have will have one of the best young players in the game in Mike Trout by year end. He will be what Grady Sizemore should have been.

Saw him play a few times last year. Ton of speed, and may grow into 15-20 homer power down the line. People talk a lot about Bryce Harper, but Trout is right there as well.
