Chris Sheridan and Peter Vecsey Settled Their Lawsuit Out of Court
Remember when a writer from ESPN sued a writer from the New York Post last June? Quietly, that kerfuffle has ended. Chris Sheridan – formerly of ESPN; shortly after filing the lawsuit, his contract wasn’t renewed – writes today on his website that the case has been settled out of court. From the tone of his post – Vecsey had to add two editor’s notes on the columns in question that appear online – it appears to be a nice victory for Sheridan.
If you’re into following the media, Sheridan also added this:
Here’s what I wrote to the managing editor of ESPN.com in an e-mail: “As you understand from our conversations, I feel I must protect my reputation as a journalist. I have spent 24 years building it, and if I am to maintain my professional integrity, I must defend myself.”
So I rocked the boat at ESPN, my contract subsequently ended, and I no longer work there.
I’ll refrain from any commentary on the topic, as Sheridan’s site is an affiliate of Big Lead Sports. [Sheridan Hoops]

Honestly asking, but why won’t you comment on it? Can you not say something negative about some random site that no one goes to?
/has no clue how popular or not popular his site is

so we are moving into ESPN territory where you cant say anything negative about an affiliate? great.

Having taken zero law classes, I’m going to guess Sheridan’s lawsuit gets tossed by a judge.
Ha. Screw Vescey. You really need a smoking gun in these cases so great for Sheridan to take down that hack. Vescey launched some real haymakers on Sheridan, only to whiff terribly. They should fire his clown ass but if they card, he’d have been let go ages ago.
Vescey throws more poop at the wall than a zoo monkey.

Nope.

Why don’t you post your opinion and just put: In full disclosure, site is an affiliate of Big Lead Sports?
April 18th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
Vecsey always comes off as a big prick.

I believe this when we look back in the history of this site, that quote will be considered the tipping point.

…please raise your hand and explain yourself.

My thoughts exactly. Either don’t make a comment or reference to being affiliated at all, or use the above line and actually give an opinion. Having your cake and eating it, too, comes off as gutless to me.

Agree with this metaphor especially when every typo on ESPN is given a full post on this site.

If there is one truth re: the media (and by that I mean online, print, or broadcast) it’s that they have very thin skin and hate getting shit thrown back at them. Generally the ones who throw the most mud are the first to whine when it’s thrown back. I think radio show hosts take the cake in this regard, though.

This is quite the deviation from the insightful, thought-provoking analysis I’ve grown accustomed to.
April 18th, 2012 at 12:31 PM
radio show hosts
relevant: two guys here in chicago just talked with former hawk jim cummins about the torres hit. cummins defended it old school, head on a swivel, blah blah blah. near the end of the chat he said he hadn;t seen the hit. lotsa laughs

I agree. Hearing members of the media fluff their code of ethics, empower themselves about “sources” like every anonymous one they have is on equal ground with Deep Throat even when it’s probably a towel boy in an NBA locker room, etc. etc. only serves to remind me how sheltered and self-absorbed they are about relatively meaningless events like one good basketball player being traded for another.

scripty lisk says you no longer control the mock draft. true? if not, send me my goddamn e-mail

I don’t know if you know this guys (and gals) but college kids (some of whom play football) like the feeling of uncontrolled giggling, zen-like thought and the ability to hang 65 points on their best friend in NCAA football. Shit is CRAZY!

Hey, anyone else god damn sick of reading about the commenter draft?
April 18th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
nice commentary on the topic.
oops on you.
seriously, if you aren’t going to comment on it, why make a post?
better yet, just make this a sponsored post for Sheridan Hoops and post more cold call transcripts.
April 18th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
For the longest time I thought it was people actually drafting commenters. Which seems a lot more interesting.
April 18th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
the draft results will probably be posted sometime after 7:30pm so we might as well read about it now.
April 18th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
I’ll refrain from commenting on this comment as I am a commenter participating in said commenter draft.

I know it was exaggeration as originally posted, but the turnabout absolutely doesn’t apply. Typos are given an ‘I keep this’ and not much else. Shit that is just wildly wrong or opinions that border on retardation are critiqued a little heavier.
