Busy Night in Sports: Sidney Crosby & the Penguins Face Elimination, NBA Playoff Jockeying Continues
No way the Penguins get swept by the Flyers … right? The NHL playoff favorites (according to Vegas) are on the verge of getting the broom in the first round, just like their football brethren were booted by the Broncos in January.
If the Penguins lose, expect plenty of ire to be sent the way of Sid the Kid (even though the goalie issues have really been Pittsburgh’s problem*).
Also on the verge of being swept: The Canucks. They’re in LA tonight. Will Vancouver burn like it did in June?
In the NBA, there are a handful of games that may be of interest to you:
Philadelphia at Cleveland – Cavs were down by 50 last night in Detroit. No way the struggling 76ers lose to the Cavs, right?
Chicago at Charlotte – Will the Bobcats lose their 18th game in a row?
LA Clippers win over Denver + Warriors win over the Lakers = Clippers take the lead in the Pacific. But who are we kidding – there’s no way the tanking Warriors are beating the Lakers.
Thunder win in Phoenix + Spurs loss in Sacramento = Thunder become the No. 1 seed in the West.
New York at New Jersey - Over/under on three-pointers made by the Knicks (they sank 19 Tuesday) … 13.
Houston at Dallas – The Rockets have lost four in a row and are tied with the Suns for the 8th spot in the West.

This is a low blow.

Valiant effort to feign interest in hockey, J-Mac. I’m impressed.
April 18th, 2012 at 7:19 PM
It also makes zero sense, the Steelers were not the favorites to win the Super Bowl last year going into the playoffs. I think he just wanted an excuse to link to more Tebow.

Crosby isn’t the issue, but he’s the one being a dirty cheap-shot little whiny dick. Whatever, hope he enjoys the golf courses after tonight.

I win, I found the error!

Actually the Spurs have the tie-breaker, so not really. Plus, I doubt the tanking Kings try to win.
April 18th, 2012 at 7:45 PM
Isn’t it more commonly 5+?
April 18th, 2012 at 7:57 PM
Depends if you’re counting factual errors or just grammatical errors.

Whew, a boston pitcher got out of a jam!
/pops champagne

This battle of PA is insane. The goalies both suck, refs suck, defense sucks. But it is entertaining.
April 18th, 2012 at 8:24 PM
I just knew that I’d get my email to pick in the commenter draft when I was in the middle of my round this afternoon.
But the pick is in. PHI is on the clock.
April 18th, 2012 at 8:24 PM
Met one of my heroes today.
Tony Romo.

Whoever told you that appealed to lowest common denominator. Listen, Fleury has been bad, really bad, but the problems are his defense. On most of these goals he’s just hung out to dry. 2 on 1s, guys wide open in the slot, no one picking up their men on rebounds. It’s been a complete meltdown by the Pittsburgh team defense. Even if the Penguins somehow come back and win this series playing firewagon hockey, they are not winning the Cup playing this way. Same goes for Philly to a certain extent.

yes and no. both have been atrocious. there have been a lot of goals that were REALLY soft.
that said, have all of these Pens penalties been pretty ticky tack tonight? I’ll admit to being a homer (potentially), and the incidental high sticks are always going to get called, but the rest seem like they could go either way, and it becomes glaring when you call every borderline penalty, and it is always against the same team.
April 18th, 2012 at 8:36 PM
lol. comment of the day right here.
April 18th, 2012 at 8:40 PM
I’m not watching the rest of this game…ugh.
April 18th, 2012 at 8:45 PM
How old are you?
April 18th, 2012 at 9:00 PM
Nice goaltending Pennsylvania. If either of these sieves were playing for Nashville, the Wings would’ve already swept the Preds. Damn you Renne.
/Oh and if the Wings hadn’t of made so many mind numbing retarded mistakes throughout the series
//LGRW
April 18th, 2012 at 9:08 PM
That game winner yesterday was unfortunate.
And I hear you about the goaltending.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:12 PM
Absolutely awful. How the fuck does that happen? Nashville has had so many gimme goals this series. Wings have been out coached big time and haven’t capitalized on their many opportunities. Preds have sat back forced the Wings to the outside. blocked shots and waited for their chances and executed. Not gonna blame bad puck luck cause fuck, gotta overcome that.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:16 PM
Holy shit…
/just saw the penguins-flyers score
April 18th, 2012 at 9:22 PM
I’m surprised it took that long for the Flyers to snap.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:25 PM
nice to see the Penguins show up. Flyers gag the series, right?
April 18th, 2012 at 9:29 PM
No.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
Doubt it.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
And here comes the usual boston bullpen meltdown….
April 18th, 2012 at 9:33 PM
Yes, lets keep throwing pitches down the middle to mike napoli who crushes those pitches all the time. Fuck you, morales and beckett
April 18th, 2012 at 9:37 PM
Was it JMac that said James Loney was gonna tear it up this season?
April 18th, 2012 at 9:37 PM
Who the fuck cares, I bet the ratings fucking suck.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:39 PM
I never thought id be happy for the red sox to play the yankees instead of the rangers. Glad this is only a two game series..what a clusterfuck
April 18th, 2012 at 9:40 PM
9-3!!!
PHIL might not think this is a big deal (just one game) but it is gonna spark PIT for sure. DAMN.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
Different OT: Nats win yet another one-run game. Also, I submitted my pick in the commenter draft.
Huzzah!
April 18th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
Different OT: Pedro Alvarez today got his first BB of the year, his second hit, and his BABiP currently sits at .000
April 18th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
Senatards/Rags 2-2 with like 10 minutes to go. Great game so far.
April 18th, 2012 at 9:59 PM
Yeah, a boston reliever got through an inning without giving up a run!
/alcohol please
April 18th, 2012 at 10:05 PM
Older than him. He can still be a sports hero, right?
April 18th, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Of course Joe Nathan would get bailed out by a line drive double play to end the game. Fuck.
April 18th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
Celtics win the division again!
/wanking
April 18th, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Well now I’m just fascinated. May I ask why? Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy, seems like a pretty stand up dude and is quite the cocksman, which I respect immensely. However, he is a tier 2 QB at best. Fun to watch but certainly not a franchise changer.
I’m also interested in the fact that he’s younger than you. I guess I stopped idolizing athletes or at least thinking of them as heroes as soon as there were professionals younger than me. I think of a hero as someone I aspire to be like both professionally and personally. I enjoy watching Troy Tulowitzki play shortstop but since I’m past the stage in my life where I think I’m going to play professional baseball it seems ridiculous to think of him as anything other than entertainment. Maybe I’m just getting too old and cynical.

Jesus, man, show some sensitivity! Urinal Mint, I and most of your fellow commenters (punches Duchess in the arm) are still here believing in you. Don’t give up. One day, and it may be soon, it may be years and years down the road, I fully expect to see you fumbling the snap on an extra point in the playoffs. You can do it, buddy.

Drew Brees is a year older than me, but he’d be my sports hero even if he were a year younger.
