Ballin’: Derrick Rose Got Angry After Charlie Villanueva Bloodied His Nose with a “Cheap Shot”
Chicago 100, Detroit 94, OT: Late in the 4th quarter, Charlie Villanueva clobbered Derrick Rose in the face, opening a cut on the bridge of his nose. Rose (24 points) was pissed. Four minutes later, Rodney Stuckey (32 points) missed a free throw to ice the game, and Rose did this:
The Bulls prevailed in overtime, mostly thanks to 20-17 from Joakim Noah. Jason Maxiell is a pretty impressive combination of size and power.
Toronto 102, Atlanta 86: Golden State Warriors fans were ecstatic about this Raptors’ win – it helps them possibly retain their Top 7 lottery pick. The Raptors and New Jersey are 22-39; the Warriors are 22-37. Good thing Golden State shut David Lee down. As for this game … Hawks starters outside of Josh Smith shot a combined 4-for-19. Speaking of tanking, do you think the Hawks are looking to dodge the Celtics in the first round? Atlanta and Orlando are now tied for the 5th seed in the East.
Miami 93, New York 85: The Knicks took a 4-point lead on a JR Smith dunk early in the 4th quarter. Then the Heat went on an 18-3 run to steal one in the Garden. Carmelo scored 42 for the Knicks, but the rest of the starters were a combined 8-for-23. LeBron scored 29, Wade added 28 and Bosh (16 points, 14 rebounds) outplayed Chandler. No, this win did not solve all the Heat’s “problems.”
LA Lakers 112, Dallas 108, OT: Fun game. With Kobe coaching, everyone chipped in – Matt Barnes (11 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists), Ramon Sessions (22 points), Bynum (23 points, 16 rebounds), Gasol (20-10) & World Peace (18 points). Can’t wait for Kobe to come back and say, “hold up, fellas, this is my show” and then all that chemistry is gone.
Orlando 100, Cleveland 84: There was a Daniel Orton sighting in Cleveland! The chubby center, who hadn’t been heard from since leaving Kentucky after his freshman year, scored 11 points in a career-high 29 minutes. The only reason he got on the court was because of the injury to Big Baby Davis (knee). With Howard out for the rest of the regular season (and probably some of the first round), expect to see much more of Orton.
Sacramento 104, Portland 103: Marcus Thornton hit a game-winning jumper, but for some reason, Francisco Garcia didn’t appear happy. Check out his reaction on the bench. You’ll see two shots of him at :09 (covering his face, walking away) and :17 (hands on hips while everyone else is pumped). Strange.
New Orleans 88, Memphis 75: So the Hornets are 5-2 with Eric Gordon in the lineup. Hmmmm. Gordon, looking for big bucks, scored 18 points just two nights after 35 on another playoff team, the Jazz. The Hornets have the third worst record in the league, so they probably won’t get Anthony Davis. Problem is, there isn’t a Top 5 point guard to be had. The two best players after Davis are guards (MKG, Beal). So do they take a chance on Drummond? Or do you take Beal and just play two big guards with no true point?

What, no celtics over the bobcats?
Ok, even i didnt watch that game. Rondo is on fire though.. 22 games in a row with 10 or more assists
April 16th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
The Knicks security system wasn’t exactly designed by Terry Benedict so I don’t think Miami had to steal anything. Would have enjoyed the Knicks stealing one from the Heat though.
Big shot by the MVP to tie the game but I agree Joakim’s day was the story. He was all over the offensive glass for putbacks. Game should never have been that close but win is a win. MVP looked like he had his speed back yesterday but his shot is still a bit off.

Charlie Villaneuva is a fucking piece of shit. Fuck that hairless waste of space.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Villanueva went after the ball, just happened to catch Rose’s face. These bball players are fucking pussies.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Also, spot on officiating at the end of the Mavs-Lakers game. Possible Barnes on the end line before put back, Barnes clearly interfereing with Gasol’s first 3 and then Gasol taking 5 (yes I rewinded the DVR and counted, FIVE) steps on the inbounds with 3 seconds left and the Mavs down two.

Assist whore.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Loved him in college, surprised his NBA career has lasted this long though. Louisville has to lead the league in guys I forgot were still in the NBA.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Miami’s big 3 did well when they needed to neutralize the output of Top 5. Bosh was the difference yesterday.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
The Hornets have the third worst record in the league, so they probably won’t get Anthony Davis.
Under the current lottery system, the teams with the 2nd and 3rd worst records have won the lottery more than the team with the worst record.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
Aside from Melo, the Knicks were a hilarious shit show yesterday. Shumpert has good defensive skills but that doesnt help his offensive weaknesses.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
It appears the refs already have their postseason marching orders re the Lakers, if Barnes’ non-called goaltending at the end is any indication.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
OT…dirt, found someone else that didn’t like decastro.

Knicks need the 8th seed – no chance that they can beat the Heat or Celtics, even with their suddenly loaded roster. I can definitely see them winning their first playoff game in over a decade vs. Chicago, and probably giving the Bulls a run for their money unless Roseverrated stops playing like a bitch.

“I’m a superstar who doesn’t get enough calls.”
- Derrick Rose, the humblest of MVPs
April 16th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
You do realize there’s no pivot foot restrictions on someone inbounding the ball. They can do the friggin Irish jig if they want provided one foot stays within an approximate 3 foot area of the defined inbound “spot”.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
I agree and don’t think he tried to catch Rose’s nose. But Charlie Villanueva is a still a hairless, sackless piece of crap.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Good for Charlie V. May as well goon it up.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
But Jay V think this year’s Final Four team has four NBA prospects. Cut-out of the future all-star mold of Terrence Williams, I assume.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
And he got a flagrant called on the foul in question. What a puss.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
One problem: Gasol wasn’t inbounding the ball, he was the one catching the inbounds pass.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Ok – I didn’t see the play. The way you described it previously I inferred he was the inbounder.
Carry on with your complaint.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Come for the dunk videos, stay for the Derrick Martell Rose hate.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
OT…dirt, found someone else that didn’t like decastro.
that guy liked him plenty. the other guy from before said he wasn’t even that good.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Cant wait for the bulls playoff games where Rose reverts to hogging the ball while his capable teammates stand around touching themselves
April 16th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I don’t understand this. I thought all Bulls hate is supposed to be directed at Boozer? Or is that only self bulls hate?
April 16th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
I guess we’re not going to mention the fact that Shawn Marion shoved him in the back? Blame the refs for not calling a foul sooner- that was the worst. Marion was sitting there fouling him and the ref was basically giving the jerk off motion.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
i didn’t get that from pompeii…he said he’d play for a decade or more, just that he wasn’t an elite talent. i figured by “elite talent” he was referring to skill set…he could still be a fantastic pro that’s more well-rounded and subtle than visably dominant.
guess it’s how you interpret it.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
I think that’s self Bulls hate. Regular Bulls haters direct their hate at Rose’s extreme overratedness and worstMVPeverness.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
This is my favorite travel video.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
I’m just tired of seeing guys who are supposed to be professionals take 3+ steps on some move and I’m supposed to be “amazed” by it.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Keep it coming. I hope GMs agree and he somehow is there at 17.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
You’re confusing Kobe with Carmelo.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Oh, the teammates were suddenly capable in last year’s playoffs, and Rose ruined it for them? That’s news to me.
/every Bull sucked in the playoffs last year
//especially Carlos Boozer
April 16th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
I guess i was right about Charlie!
/KG
April 16th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
He still handles the ball as if his hands are covered in bacon grease but damned if he hasn’t had a solid season
April 16th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Agreed. Melo will hog the ball and lead his team to failure. Kobe will deflect to his teammates the entire game, only secretly hoping they fail.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
A guard like DeCastro is still an okay mid/late-1st round pick. Previously, a guard had better be Steve Hutchinson to be a 1st round selection. But with the WCO and teams getting rid of the ball quicker, the fastest route to a QB is over the guard in most schemes, so guards are facing more pressure than ever before.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Bless NBA refs. This is my all-time favorite.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Gasol took the 4 steps before Marion ever got on his back, and didn’t hack him until after he took the 5th. It was an indefensible no call.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
So both guys suck, but probably aren’t as bad as Derrick Rose. Not a lot of talent in this National Basketball Association it seems, except for the role players. Those guys need more playing time and shot attempts.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
Healthy season, that’s for sure. Only Bulls starter to dress for all the games.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
In business, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know >>> they dont call travelling in the NBA.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Previously, a guard had better be Steve Hutchinson to be a 1st round selection.
without looking it up, I”ll bet there’s been 10 first round guards since Hutchinson. Now I’ll go look it up.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
I don’t agree with what you’re saying you saw, but you realize this happens ALL THE TIME, right? You’re asking for traveling on the catch of the ball, which I may not have seen called once in the past 3 seasons.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
well, 7. And one of those plays tackle.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
You’re asking for traveling
one of the weekend’s “highlights” was Manu Ginobili scoring on a drive from literally the center circle. On the drive he bounced it while running, then took 4 stutter steps, a step, and then bounced it, and 3 more steps to the hoop for a dunk.
On one play, he traveled twice and carried it. What he did was a foul in team handball even. No official said a word.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
I know it happens all the time. And as long it keeps happening I will keep bitching about it. This is supposed to be the highest level of basketball and they can’t even call one of the most basic rules of the game.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
If you watch the Corey Maggette video you’ll see that the refs barely pay attention to the feet. All they look for is the handcheck and the shoves when a player drives. It’s pathetic.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
You could call holding in football or traveling in basketball on every play at every level, and it would be justified. It would also make both sports unwatchable.
April 16th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
LOL at calling for more traveling calls in the NBA
April 16th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Fans don’t watch the line in football as closely as they watch the guy with the ball in his hands in the basketball. Instant replay/highlights just kill basketball in that respect.
April 16th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Imagine that, scorers score. Lots of College fans posing as NBA fans in here today.
April 16th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
You could call holding in football or traveling in basketball on every play at every level, and it would be justified. It would also make both sports unwatchable.
i just want them to call the egregious ones.
April 16th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
You can switch holding calls for push offs by WR’s and it’ll still be the same. Whining about traveling in the NBA is an overstated national pastime.
April 16th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Actually, all 4 of the guys I mentioned are listed in multiple sites’ top 100 right now…so my opinion is not an odd one.
April 16th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Siva and Smith would make a fun NBDL backcourt.
April 16th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Also, no post on Benson becoming the Hornets’ owner? Granted, the Hornets are barely an NBA-level team, but still …
