Chris Kreider is Going Straight From Boston College to the NHL Playoffs With the Rangers
Boston College’s Chris Kreider is going straight from the NCAA playoffs to the NHL ones. The 20-year-old junior is skipping his senior season after an NCAA Championship to sign a contract with the Rangers, who drafted him in the first-round in 2009. He scored 23 goals and had 22 assists in 44 games for the Eagles last season.
His immediately helpful asset is speed.
“I think he can help. He’s got NHL speed and NHL-level puck-pursuit ability and he gives you another dimension with that speed that pushes opponents beyond their comfort level,” said one former NHL scout, who has watched Kreider throughout his career at Boston College.
What is the world coming to when you have student-athletes foregoing a college degree to turn profe…oh wait. This is hockey. He’s white.

He’s a black ace. Won’t play.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:30 PM
and then Ty turned to highfive all his black friends and realized he didn’t have any….

Rangers looked dominant last night. Albeit against a pretty crappy Ottawa team.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:37 PM
Didn’t Patrick Patterson or some other UK guy do this a couple of years ago in the NBA? But he was just declared a free agent through some loophole after he got kicked off the team. I might be misremembering the guy who did it

Plus he played 3 years at BC and this contract provides ample resources to finish any outstanding credits.

Greg Louganis, iirc
April 13th, 2012 at 3:45 PM
Thought there would be a post of this.
Shame if Krejci has to miss any time because of it.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:47 PM
On the bright side, Jacoby Ellsbury has a great chance of winning comeback player of the year again next year
/kills self

Should have been you, Lucic.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Well considering the Kreider story is from Wednesday, expect a post on it Sunday afternoon.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
Do people still get angry over kids leaving college early? I thought we were all kinda past that.

I wasn’t going to mention that, was happy we got a hockey post.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Would love to see Riley Sheahan in over that bum Emmerton tonight.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
He was a scratch last night and it’s questionable he even plays this series. So, technically, he’s not in the playoffs just yet.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Uhmmmm, because Duffy says he’s white?
April 13th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Dude this is amazing.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:54 PM
Well I mean it’s written in the future tense and he’s already been with the team and been a healthy scratch for their first game.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:56 PM
Geezus does his signing bonus not count against the cap hit at all now because the deal was made during the playoffs or does it just hit on for next year?
Pens signed Beau Bennett today but I don’t know if he’s forgoing school or not, as he’s out injured.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:56 PM
And you do what for a living?
/stolen joke
April 13th, 2012 at 3:56 PM
I’m going out to watch Flyers – Pens tonight, so I anticipate being a complete train wreck by 11PM.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
I think I read on twitter that he was leaving UofDenver…..
April 13th, 2012 at 3:58 PM
Have you been to Xfinity Live yet? Had a friend go down for game 1 and he said it was AWESOME.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
Randolph Morris.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
Not yet. Have heard good things, though. I’m going to check it out next Wednesday ….. I have tickets to Game 4.
April 13th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
My understanding is that it applies to next year’s cap.
If the Pens signed Bennett he would have had to have informed Denver he was leaving school.
April 13th, 2012 at 4:02 PM
It was Randolph Morris. Declared for the draft in 05, but went undrafted. Because he didn’t sign an agent he maintained his eligibility. Jumped to pros as a free agent a couple days after UK got knocked out of the tourney. Crazy stuff, surprised we don’t see it more often, unless they’ve since fixed that loophole.
April 13th, 2012 at 4:03 PM
That’s what I thought, just didn’t see any information on it in the article on their site.
I’m sure he’ll be terrible. Organization hasn’t developed a competent forward since Ryan Malone and Ryan Malone fucking sucks.
April 13th, 2012 at 4:03 PM
except that kreider took heavy course loads at Boston College and will graduate in 3 years. a little research might be nice before firing up the ole race card.
http://bluelinestation.com/2012/04/10/getcha-popcorn-ready-the-chris-kreider-experience-is-about-to-begin/
so race-bait fail i guess?

coming off an injury shortened year due to ruptured tendon in his wrist. He’ll need some seasoning in Wilkes-Barre.
April 13th, 2012 at 4:10 PM
Sweet. He and Tangradi can develop a working relationship, they’ll need it seeing as they’ll be there their entire careers.
April 13th, 2012 at 4:23 PM
Not going to play without an injury. Tortorella has already said as much. Unless one of the Ranger big guns go down (which is definitely possible) he’ll be relegated to watching games from the owner’s suite.
Lundqvist won the game for the Rangers last night. From about the 10 minute mark of the first to the timeout with 9:50 left in the second Ottawa DOMINATED the game. Haven’t seen the Rangers that backed up all season. Lundqvist made 4 or 5 incredible saves in that span. I would say Ottawa outplayed the Rangers for about half the game. Those 20 min and the last 10 (granted game was out of reach)
April 13th, 2012 at 4:28 PM
The Rangers won 4-1 and Ottawa barely even threatened. I think that qualifies as a pretty good beating.
Since when do I not watch hockey games?
April 13th, 2012 at 4:42 PM
According to this, no.
April 13th, 2012 at 4:47 PM
Well hopefully you know more than you do about the Red Sox. Beckett has done even better than I thought today (albeit with some luck). But there was almost no way he wasn’t going 6 and pretty unlikely he was gonna give up those walks you were so sure of.
April 13th, 2012 at 4:48 PM
A Phillips Andover product who went to BC and now plays for a NY team? I don’t think I could like him less.
April 13th, 2012 at 5:01 PM
Although I am conditioned to hate BC because of the college I attended (because of academic rivalry, our sports teams aren’t in their class), my little brother now goes there so I’ve had to tamp down that disdain.
April 13th, 2012 at 5:16 PM
So either BU or Tufts?
April 13th, 2012 at 5:27 PM
Haha, no. Close though. Holy Cross, that feisty little Patriot League liberal arts college to the west.
April 13th, 2012 at 5:35 PM
Again, logic and facts mean cannot compete with this site’s philosophical orthodoxy. Great links, awful non-Lisk analysis.

Given the score was 4-2, I’m calling this a win for me.
Game was even in the 1st, Sens controlled a good chunk of the 2nd until NYR scored 2 in 6 minutes. 3rd was pretty even as well.
