Ballin’: CJ Watson Saves the Bulls as Chicago Beats the Heat
Miami 86, Chicago 96, OT: Derrick Rose shot 1-of-13, and with the Bulls needing a hero in the waning seconds … CJ Watson emerged. A triple over Wade sent the game to overtime and propelled the Bulls to victory. The Bulls reserves outscored Miami’s bench 47-7. Nobody outside of Miami’s Big 3 scored in the 4th quarter or overtime. Guess the Heat have fallen out of love with rookie Norris Cole – in the last 23 games, he’s scored in double figures just three times. He got a DNP-CD in this game. The Heat are just 5-6 in their last 11 games. Wait for the replay on this LeBron block. He looks like a shark leaping out of the water. What an athletic freak.
Detroit 109, Charlotte 85: That’s 14 losses in a row for Michael Jordan’s Bobcats. Gerald Henderson got a tech for either asking for the and-1, or saying something to Jason Maxiell (who clearly fouled him).
Memphis 97, San Antonio 107: Tough loss for the Grizzlies, who fall 1.5 back of the Clippers for the 4th seed. But being on the road in the opening round didn’t really hurt them last year, so perhaps it isn’t that big of a deal.
LA Clippers 95, Minnesota 82: Because it’s all about Blake Griffin … he missed a dunk, and then threw two down. He had 19 points and 13 rebounds and flourished with Kevin Love sitting out (concussion). Griffin should send something nice to JaVale McGee, because if Love had played, he would have got the better of Blake for the third time this season.
Dallas 103, Golden State 112: Tank on, Warriors. They’re now 22-36, and tied with the Pistons for the 8th worst record. New Jersey is 21-38, but has five of seven left against playoff teams. The Warriors should give David Lee (30 points) some rest, right? Love the hops on Roddy Beaubois. I look like him here … on an 8-foot hoop.

Say what now?

The +/- numbers for several of the Bulls and Heat players are staggering for a 10-pt overtime game.

Wade seemed to be wondering the same thing:

If Golden St doesn’t land in the top 7 of the lottery, they lose their pick to Utah.

Ex.) CJ Watson +38

simply amazing how horrible the Bobcats are. You know you are one of the worst teams in league history when the 2012 Cavs and Pistons run you off the court in consecutive games.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
He would have had 30 if Love had been “defending” him.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Poor Shane Battier
As fun as the win was it’s the same old story between these teams, close game and the Bulls have a deeper bench but come the postseason that doesn’t matter as much so they just need to pray Rose is right and even if he is games like last night prove that he can dish the ball once LeBron is on him and be confident that guys will make plays

Season average – 20.6 ppg, 11 rpg
Season average vs. Minnesota (4 games) – 24, 10.5
I’m not sure with or without Love to play against, Griffin did any better or worse.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
The problem is, what else are they supposed to do? They could have kept their team together and hung out in the middle, competing for a 7-8 seed, but that is worse than being awful. At least now, they can implement the Thunder-plan and hope they get as lucky as they did.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
I wish conditional picks worked the other way and you only get to keep your pick if you finish outside of the top 10. It’s weird because I hate when teams tank except I want Detroit to.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Someone want to research the +/- of Griffin vs. Love?
April 13th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Saying “Tank on” led me to believe they lost the game, not won it.

Only really saw about 10 total game minutes of the Bulls with all the hockey going on. The last 5 of the 4th and all of OT. CJ Watson’s triple was about as lucky as Wade’s desperation jumper from the free throw line. I saw nothing but awful things in the Twitter timeline regarding Rose’s play. Sounds like he was just terrible last night.
A good win for the Bulls as it pretty much locks up the top seed. I agree with Butters though. Just need Rose to get right here in the last 2 weeks before the playoffs.
How did Rip look?
April 13th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Decent but he didn’t play any more minutes than Rose…it was a weird game
Looking at the closing schedules I remain hopeful that Boston can take over the #3 seed, let the Heat deal with them in Round 2
April 13th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Kyle Korver’s 3 in overtime was shot from Gary, Indiana by the way. That was awesome. Hot sauce was 5 of 6 last night. That’s huge for a Bulls team with a struggling MVP.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Old and slow, man. This just isn’t his year with all of those injuries.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
So Derrick Rosverrated right?
April 13th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
I don’t know why Rip doesn’t play on the second unit, Brewer gives them better minutes with defense and has scored a little bit this year
April 13th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
They actually did lose, but sometimes you make mistakes in posts when you don’t bother to proofread them.
It’s also interesting how JMac’s “Warriors making a run for playoffs” narrative careened off the rails about a week after he started pushing it. Take it from a Warriors fan – every year is the same.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
I think it’s mostly because that 2nd unit has Korver and Watson on it. Those two guys like to shoot. Watson can distribute well though, I would like to see Rip play with him on that 2nd unit.
I love Ronnie Brewer’s game. He has really added some finishing touch around the rim this year. His jumper is ugly to look at but occasionally you get the night where things are falling for him. My favorite player on the Bench Mob remains Taj Gibson.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
It makes more sense, but Rip is quite prideful and has been known to tell a coach off or halfass it when he feels insulted by a changed role. If he buys into what Thibs is saying, then it’s all good. You’d think a veteran who’s had a TON of team success in his career would be fine with this.
It’s sort of obvious, but Rip’s game really requires his legs are strong. All that running off screens and mid-range jumpers is only good if his legs are strong. They haven’t been this year.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Keeping him seperate from Korver allows both units to have someone running off screens and creates more space for Rose to drive in the first unit.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
“We’ve got to trust our bench a little more; we’ve got to give those guys an opportunity,” said Wade
Maybe the Heat should spend some more money on the bench to help. Oh that’s right you and the other two idiots took all the money.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Ahh…now it makes sense.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
That makes sense
April 13th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
They are simply a reflection of their owner’s management acumen.
/ Note: NOT his playing acumen
April 13th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
KC Johnson with a very interesting tweet:
I love my professional basketball coach. He just does what he has to in order to win. No favorites on this team.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
But they have David Lee & Stephen Curry!!!
April 13th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
If ( big if) Rip can be healthy and provide a punch it’s a huge help. He spaces the floor so much and gives them a 3rd scoring guard in that first unit. Or, Korver needs to shoot like he did last night. Nobody talks about it, but he was 3-12 in the 4 playoff losses to the Heat. If he is making shots, you can live with the lack of defense.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
Umm….. not to point out the obvious but, TBL tanked the score for the Mavs/Warriors games. Score is flipped…
April 13th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
Probably the second best coach in the league right now behind Pops. And it might not be by much.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I feel that because these are like unicorn farts, I have to link it when someone says something about KK’s defense.
/he’s still bad on defense but these are funny
April 13th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Rip will be fine. He’s getting into game shape. The Bulls biggest issue is playing through Rose’s ball stopping ways.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Bulls bench has outscored the Heat’s 103-22 in their last two meetings. Wow.
April 13th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
This. It’s become Monta Ellisian.
April 13th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
There was absolutely no tank in the Warriors last nite, they actually played their asses off, cut the lead to 3 mid-4th quarter before Dirk took over. Guess tanking is what fits the narrative, though.
