Charlie Strong is Upset at the Louisville Media, So He’s Banned Them
Charlie Strong, Louisville’s football coach, has banned the local media from covering the team. It’s unclear if this is a temporary thing, or whether Strong will follow though on his ban throughout the season.
Why the ban? According to Adam Lefkoe, an ESPN radio host in Louisville, Strong is perturbed the local media went gaga for Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals making a run to the Final 4. The basketball team hogged all the media coverage and apparently, Strong thinks the spotlight should have been on the football team during Spring practice. Hey Charlie, quick question – when Billy Donovan’s Gators were winning back-to-back titles in Gainesville during the Tim Tebow era, did Urban Meyer ever try to pull a stunt like this?
It’s a very curious move by Strong, who actually has a formidable team this season. They’ve gone to two bowl games in a row, and are in line for a BCS berth this season (especially with West Virginia off to the Big 12). The defense could be Top 10 in the country (don’t laugh) and QB Teddy Bridgewater will be the best at his position in the Big East (not saying much, I know). You are in the state of Kentucky. Louisville has a HoFer as the head basketball coach, was in the Final Four, and played their biggest rival in said Final Four. He can do whatever he wants, but he shouldn’t be surprised that Louisville football wasn’t the hot ticket in late March. Consistently beat teams like Florida Atlantic and maybe that wouldn’t be the case.

Nah man it’s the year end date used for titles. Florida hoops beat UCLA in the 2005/6 title game and OSU in 2006/7. Tebow was a freshman and running special sets as a backup to Leak in 2006/7.

That was a down year for UF, but Tebow still stole McFadden’s Heisman that year, and plus he’s Tebow, the football team got plenty of coverage. Still have that Michigan-Florida Citrus Bowl on DVD, it was a glorious end to an odd season.

Florida’s second basketball title came in 2007, which was right after they won the National Championship over Ohio State. So yes, the titles both came when CHRIS LEAK was the Gators starting QB, not Tim Tebow.

I think Strong will most likely be gone from Louisville in the next 2-3 years anyway. He’s too good of a coach to be there for longer than 5 years. If he does well at L’ville, I could see him replacing Richt when he retires in 5ish years.

Because he lied to his boss, which led them to be apart of a cover up and he then called his trooper friend in hopes of getting him to lessen the blow. He only told his boss about the strange poon he was tagging when he found out that the police report was going to disclose it. Lying to your boss and embarrassing the school should get you fired. Him nailing someone not named Mrs. Petrino is of no concern to me.
Also, his story is complete bullshit and everyone knows it. In the car of his trooper friend he said a “gust of wind” blew him off of the road. To the media and the public he said the sun was in his eyes. He’s still lying now, but that’s par for the course for Bobby P.

agreed. what sucks is it is a no-win situation for the AD Jeff Long, and for the University itself. keep him on, and you pretty much let one guy undermine everything involved with the University. fire him, and you let the most successful coach in a long time go, the year they have at least a chance at contending for a NC. it all comes down to $$$, which everyone already knows.
I know I have blindly stuck up for Petrino before, obviously I was wrong. dude is a hell of a coach, but a shitty person. oh well, I guess winning comes first and everything else is after. I have faith that Jeff Long will do what’s best for the program and the University though, I am just ready for it to be over and worry about on the field stuff.

I think they can get a good coach ,though. I agree that he’s a top-10 coach in the country, and they probably can’t get another one in the top-10, but they can get close to it. Having said all of that, I’d be shocked if they actually fire him. Maybe I’m too cynical, but I suspect wins will be more important than anything else.

there it is. wins and money. I mean, Arkansas was in the top 10 of most profitable athletic departments (maybe football programs, I don’t remember for sure). but either way, fucking Arkansas. think about that for a minute. Arkansas isn’t in the top 10 of anything except meth busts and obesity.
I think if they were going to fire him, it would have been done already. IMO the admins are tying together every loose end possible to avoid being sued if he stays on. trying to tie together loose ends when you can’t believe a word coming from the main party involved probably is pretty tough.
