Lamar Odom and the Dallas Mavericks are Parting Ways
Least surprising NBA news this month: Lamar Odom and the Mavericks have parted ways. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein:
Sources said Monday that Odom’s departure will be immediate and that the Mavericks intend to simply list him as inactive for the rest of the season instead of outright releasing him, leaving open the possibility that they could still trade him after the season in conjunction with the draft. Any team that has Odom on its roster as of June 29 must buy him out by that date for $2.4 million or otherwise accept responsibility for the full $8.2 million that Odom is scheduled to earn in 2012-13.
Nobody can pick up Odom for the rest of the playoffs, which probably means after the Mavericks are bounced in the first round (there’s a chance the defending champs miss the playoffs), he’ll have plenty of free time to film his reality show with that Kardashian and enjoy his sex swing.

the latter option is becoming increasingly more likely. It’s strange that Dallas is short on personnel.

It’s amusing to me how gleeful JMac is over the demise of the Mavericks. Guess losing as much as he did last year putting everything on the Heat really isn’t a medicine that goes down well. When the deal was made I thought it was making the best of a bad situation. On another topic, dream sequence illustrates jumping the shark, no?

I’m surprised they didn’t try to move him around the trade deadline. He clearly didn’t want to be in Dallas (or anywhere besides L.A.) So why not trade him to the Clippers or the Knicks/Nets or any of the teams that could use a veteran presence as they head into the playoffs?
Odd deal all around.

Who’s going to trade what for a guy who won’t play? And if you trade him, he can fail to report, accept a buyout, and go right back to the Lakers.
Better to deactivate than give this fucker exactly what he wants.

Did anybody watch Odom when he was on the floor for Dallas? That was the most disinterested player I think I’ve ever watched.

Mavs looking like a one year wonder, team that got insanely hot and rode abnormally great shooting to a title.
Watch Stern step in and force a release so he can join the Lakers for the playoffs.

I did, some. My dad called me twice a week, just seething about that guy. It’s not like they didn’t try a lot of tactics with the guy before giving up.

you forgot old. They were old, too. And they chose not to pay the player that made the difference. They apparently never offered Tyson Chandler anything other than a 1 year deal.

Consider who they lost and who they replaced them with. Those are larger factors than riding some phantom streak.

Does this mean we’ll be spared further Kardashian sightings and updates? Because those are getting mighty tiresome.

Huh? Why does it say this on the main page? The guy completely didn’t do his job.

It’s been real.

It seems that the Mavs would have some grounds to void his contract given his performance and general pussy demeanor this season.
There’s no real difference between him and Dwight Howard in that regard.

and five minutes of clamp down defense at the end of games.

if they can stay in the 6 hole, they can still give the Lakers fits. But they’ll probably end up 11th.

I think Cuban knows what he’s doing with that team. Why sign a bunch of old guys to try and repeat when you know the brass ring awaits in free agency this offseason? What they’re doing makes sense long-term.
Dunno why you could call that team a one-year wonder. It was a band of mercenaries.

Yep.

Yep, and Dwight Howard was an idiot for agreeing to stay in Orlando.

who mainly hit wide open jumpers. Which is awesome.

Deron Williams is excited about being back home in Dallas next year.

This is pretty much how I feel about the Suns playoff chances. If they can get to the 6 then I am fine with them making it but the 7 or 8 seed I want no part of. Would rather have lottery tickets.

He was always more valuable to the Mavericks as an expiring contract this offseason; they would never trade him. This team was never built to win anything in 2012. Cuban signed some guys (Delonte, Vince) to make it seem like he was defending the crown, but this is a lost year.
