Tiger Woods Better Rally at the Masters Today Because He’s 0-41 in Majors When Trailing After 54 Holes
Club-kicking Tiger Woods, who hasn’t won a golf major in nearly four years, tees off at the Masters at 10:45 this morning. After a poor 2nd round-75 Friday, he’s buried in 40th place, eight shots back of the leaders, Jason Dufner and 52-year-old Fred Couples (both -5).
The bad news for Tiger: When trailing majors after 54 holes, he’s 0-41. Even if Tiger were to shoot a 66 today before the leaders tee off, here’s the real bad news – there are 16 players tied or ahead of Tiger who have won a major. What are the chances everyone ahead of him struggles, and Tiger surges to the lead?
None.
And thus, the drought will continue. Sorry folks, regardless of how much you want it to happen, he’s not “back.” He never was “back.” Maybe he’ll win another major or two, but Jack’s record is safe. You’ve got to wonder if anyone of Tiger’s injuries will pop up today he really flubs the first nine holes. He’s quit before.
As for the rest of the leaderboard, there’s no point in getting excited about Dufner yet – the former Auburn walk-on has been known to start fast, but according to a stat on Sportscenter, he’s struggled in the final 54 holes. Couples is a great national story for the 50+ set, but CBS was already going to have the old folks tuning in Sunday.
There’s a logjam at -4 with three very compelling names: Dukes of Hazzard fan Bubba Watson, popular but Major-less Sergio Garcia, and probably the sport’s most popular young golfer, Rory McIlroy (who is dating one of the best female tennis players on the planet). Even if Tiger doesn’t rally, those three could produce some compelling Sunday afternoon Easter TV for the casual golf fan.

he’s buried in 40th place
So, that means this post should have been about 39 other people.

It should be a good day of golf, I hope we see alot of the Vijay/Phil and Rory/Sergio pairings today. Also, I can’t wait to see the inevitable Sergio collapse.

So do you really believe Tiger can’t win 4 more majors? Jack didn’t win #15 until he was 38.

TBL – I’m hearing other women are coming forward regarding Petrino and he’s done. Sean Payton to ark for a year?

He probably won’t win, but I’m willing to bet MILLIONS of dollars that Tiger compels you to write a completely different post at some point tomorrow before this is over.

The best player in the world is 8 strokes back going into moving day, TBL. Tiger shot 3 over yesterday and was awful, you’re making it out as if he shot an 80 on Sunday and pissed away the Masters. Granted he has to make a move early today (which his birdie on 3 is certainly helping). He has to dominate the front 9 and do it now.

Fock him and the horse he rode in on. I don’t give a shit what he’s doing, how he’s playing, etc. Freddie “freakin” Couples is leading the Masters, after 20ys ago winning it! Why isn’t this the shot on the website?
Come on, I know Tiger has a following, is a great player, etc. I get it. BUT, give the other players their due when they deserve it.
I hope he duck hooks every freakin shot today. Go Freddie!!!!

Yeah, but Tiger’s libido has to be fading by then (I guess there’s Viagara) and you KNOW he’s playing great, unbeatable golf when he’s banging strippers and Perkins’ waitresses!!!!

Fuck Fred Couples. I hope his back goes out. I wanna see if Jason Dufner is capable of smiling. Or Phil’s cancer ridden wife.

He’s also played and won a US open on a torn ACL. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to him dealing with injuries

Tiger’s still pretty young, especially since he plays GOLF. All of you Tiger haters come across as rather insane.

No Chance? I think there is some chance. It’s Tiger Woods, he could drop a 65 out there today and be right back in it.
April 7th, 2012 at 2:27 PM
What an ass. Your statement makes it sound like if he plays poorly, he’ll just quit and blame an injury. If you heard him talk after the round on Friday, he owned up to his shitty play and does so in general after poor rounds. He won a US Open with an ACL injury and a double stress fracture in his tibia. If he bails due to injury, it’s legit.

Be realistic. It’s gonna be Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, no matter how far out of the lead he is. They’ll sneak in some coverage of the rest of the field from time to time to appease Augusta, but otherwise, golf on TV is the Tiger Show.
At least it’s CBS and not the Golf Channel/NBC’s gobblefest of the past few weeks.

His round’s already over, he’ll get a highlight package but otherwise we’ll get to watch the guys who actually have a chance to win the tournament
