This Has to be One of the Biggest Cheap Shots Ever Delivered in a Baseball Game
Watch what happens to the runner on 2nd base. Keep an eye on the outfielder, who comes racing in to deliver a blow to the unsuspecting kid. It doesn’t get much dirtier than that. [via Jimmy Traina]
[UPDATE: This is a game between Scottsdale Community College and Yavapai Community College on March 29th. The player in question appears to be Yavapai's Austin O'Such. There is no game account of this incident, but there's this story from this week noting that cleanup hitter and outfielder O'Such is "serving a suspension after an on-field incident last week". You'll be happy to know he is supposed to return.
Also, Yavapai was featured last year in this memorable story involving a foul-mouthed coach.]

That’s assault.
April 6th, 2012 at 2:58 PM
So high school baseball brawls are a thing now? Good lord.
April 6th, 2012 at 2:59 PM
Ok so he tackled him from behind. While extremely dirty, it’s not like he ran from the outfield and clocked him in the back/side of the head with a haymaker. He probably got the wind knocked out of him more than anything.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:00 PM
no, it’s battery. No assault because he didn’t see him coming.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:00 PM
changed headline because some thing it could be a Junior College game (based on team abbreviations).
Yes, Milk … looks like assault to me
April 6th, 2012 at 3:03 PM
Has to be a JC. Wood bats or composites are being used. Not to mention the field looks much nicer than any high school field I ever played on.
Who Let the Dogs Out was a nice touch.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:05 PM
the play was dead…this wasn’t a “baseball act”, to coin a phrase. Cheap, low-grade SOB. I don’t know all the context, but in a vacuum that looked all sorts of wrong.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:08 PM
Asshole deserved it
April 6th, 2012 at 3:13 PM
focker.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
Based on the title of the YouTube video, it looks like this was Yavapai Community College vs. Scottsdale Community College.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
Not to be a dick, but TORG is right. Battery, not assault.

//there’s a difference
April 6th, 2012 at 3:16 PM
Let’s not overlook the use of a wooden bat…real men use wood.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:17 PM
eh, I screwed that up. Depends on the state, apparently.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:18 PM
Gotta hand it to the kid though, he sure timed it right. Nobody even noticed.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Westwood doubled 18 to finish at -4. There is a four player tie (McIlroy, Couples, Garcia, Dufner) at -5. Woods is -1 (-1 total) through 4.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Okay everyone is all over Twitter saying it’s the worst cheap shot ever. Ever? Obviously nobody’s ever watched the WWF.
/that stuff is real, right?
April 6th, 2012 at 3:20 PM
Asshole deserved it
Agreed. Bunting is for pussies.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:21 PM
Assault is criminal here. There’s stil both assault and battery on the civil side.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:23 PM
That’s Suffolk County Community College, thank you. I got my AD there before moving onto UK.
The baseball team is always pretty good, but you’d be shocked – SHOCKED – to learn that the campus is filled with douchebags.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:25 PM
“He tripped”
Fantastic eyewitness.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:25 PM
WWE now, Hoss. AND IT’S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT!
April 6th, 2012 at 3:25 PM
Okay, I tracked down the identity of the schools and the player in question. It’s not Suffolk County by the way, Shatner.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:26 PM
Right. I was thinking everyone made the differientation on the criminal side, too. Wrong.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:26 PM
SouthernAggression, why we don’t we go toe-to-toe on birdlaw and see who comes out the victor?
April 6th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
I was just harkening back to what it was called when I used to watch as a kid. It will always be WWF to me.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
I was going to do this…
/that stuff is real, right?
Yes!
/Mrejr
and then I see Mrerj did this…
WWE now, Hoss. AND IT’S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT!
At least he owns it.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
Ah my apologies then. I figured the guy who posted the story is from NY and the initials are the same.

It’s completely without reason.

April 6th, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Nice form. Someone get that kid a football scholarship.

Dunn hit a HR!?!?! 1-2 with a BB and a K.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:32 PM
“He tripped”
Fantastic eyewitness.
Indeed. The same eyewitness probably viewed a flying saucer on the ride home.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:32 PM
You could say left fielder so I don’t have to watch twice. I was looking at the CF. Back to pumping gas for that asshole.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:34 PM
GOOD DAY TO YOU, C C SABATHIA!!
April 6th, 2012 at 3:34 PM
OT: Carlos Pena just hit a grand slam off Sabathia in the 1st for the Rays. Boom, daddy.

April 6th, 2012 at 3:37 PM
Couples in the clubhouse, tied for the lead at -5.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:39 PM
my favorite part of this video was the three minutes after it happened where nothing else happened.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:40 PM
That wasn’t the guy that bunted. This dude was on first already it appears.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:40 PM
Gregg Williams is impressed.
That kid may never play in another baseball game unless the field is surround by barbed wire and towers with snipers.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:42 PM
LF a complete punk bitch though. Classic douche move.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
That wasn’t the guy that bunted. This dude was on first already it appears.
Maybe the left fielder couldn’t get to the guy on first, so he went for a target of opportunity.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
The question: when does the give out and he fades away.

hey Bubbles, how YOU doin’?
April 6th, 2012 at 3:45 PM
How can you call that classic? I’ve never seen a move quite like that before. I’d more like to call it an “innovative” douche move.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:46 PM
Uhhhh….. filibuster?
April 6th, 2012 at 3:47 PM
Just mean from the not looking standpoint. Equates to a sucker punch for me.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
Nothin like who let the dogs out to bring levity to the situation
April 6th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
oops … friend.
Yeah he had hit a ball in the rough near the edge where they were standing. He starts all the “hey how YOU doin’” “are you hanging around later?” and my buddy Jeff says something to the effect like “Bad lye, you’re gonna fuck this one up.” and grabs his wife by the arm and moves along.
And yes – she’s hot. And bat-shit crazy.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:54 PM
I’m all kind of horrid with the keyboard today.
/squawkbox in the clubhouse with the comments-fail lead by 4 strokes
April 6th, 2012 at 3:58 PM
More OT: Lou Pinella & David Cone working color commentary for YES today. They sound smooth and seem to be playing to one another’s strengths. You almost don’t need Michael Kay for play-by-play.
April 6th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
