Some funny, but the part where he wanted to get in Chelsea Handler’s pants made me gag just a little bit.

HBO original programming alone beats most of what Hollywood spews into my local theatre on a weekend. If I were in New York and had the full menu of film I may feel differently.
I will say Drive/Tinker Tailor/Descendants/The Debt were decent recent films.

James Wolcott believes TV right now is better than the movies Hollywood is making.
A TV show where you can create complex storylines and deep characters is completely different than a 2-hour movie. From skimming the article, this guy clearly romanticizes film of old. His foggy memory seems to forget there have always been popcorn movies alongside more serious films.
You’re embarrassing yourself, you geriatric f-ck! … And keep your liver-spotted hands to yourself.

First round of the year yesterday, after 2 birdies I was +1 after 7 and was heading to a par 5 I’ve eagled a few times before. Yada yada yada I shot an 84. 4 doubles, a triple and 4 penalties. That was about the worst score I could have posted.
April 6th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
The online streams are all day. TV waits until 3PM EDT to go on air.
If you have DirecTV or UVerse you get all the extra channels as well (Featured Group – the best IMO, Amen Corner, 15/16)

April 6th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Fuck off to the people that have 20-25 days off on these holidays. I figured it out the other week, the only days I get off is: Memorial, 4th of July, Labor, Thankgiving, X-Mas, and New Years. Shit I haven’t taken one personal day in 2 years. I need a break.

Maybe Masters Round 2 Day is a personal holiday for some here. I suppose MLB openers, too, are cause for the light traffic.

April 6th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
So count me as unenthused about this weekend. We have a gathering of my wife’s old friends for breakfast at our house first thing tomorrow morning, then lunch and an Easter egg hunt with my family, then a surprise birthday party tomorrow night. Then on Sunday we get to fight the mob in church and hope our kids aren’t too squirrelly to make it through without incident. And then we have to go to my sister-in-law’s for a dual-family Easter luncheon.
/rather be working in the garage
//or even watching the Masters, and I’m not a big golf guy
April 6th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Hey Mantis – dumb question for you. Are you aware of any roofing materials that can cause chlorine to be added to the water runoff from the roof? The only reason I ask is that I’m working on a legal case where the property owner is blaming the water company for damage because the water sample had chlorine in it and there was a recent leak/break 2 blocks away, but the concentrations don’t match. The flashing/masonry on the roof is shot and I’m curious if the chlorine came from the roofing/masonry materials.
April 6th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
I concur. I was watching the BBC Sherlock Holmes no Netflix the other day and I was thinking this is more interesting than any current movie mystery I can think of.

Big Hoss – Your comment right there is why I’ll never have kids and probably won’t get married.
April 6th, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Roeth, never in my life have I heard anything about chlorine being added because of roofing materials. Only type of system I could think of is a vegetated roofing system, and we don’t go near any of that business killing system. Could be the masonry if it’s deteriorated, that’s my guess. Do you know what kind of roof it is?
April 6th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
Dempsey is in his prime and absolutely kicking ass in the EPL. Fulham has a dedicated fanbase that absolutely loves him, but if he wants to win and Fulham knows it can get a fat lump of money for him, he’s probably gone. It’d be very interesting to see Deuce on a good team.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
err

April 6th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
NDub – not to revive the thread about kids from a week or two ago, but if you find a cool wife, it’s great. 95% of my life is great, really. Easter is just a PITA because it’s all the trappings of a holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas, crammed into one weekend with no time off. In our case, we live within 10 miles of both sets of grandparents, which is mostly a blessing but a curse in a weekend like this because you can’t use distance as an excuse to avoid getting together.
Plus my wife’s dad has ALS so there’s an “every moment is precious” mindset. Which is totally understandable but doesn’t keep my 3 year old from melting down when he misses his nap on Sunday.
Bottom line…don’t let my complaining dissuade you. Find the right lady and your life will be far, far better for it.

Game of Thrones, Justified, Mad Men, Breaking Bad VERSUS The Artist, The King’s Speech, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hangover 2.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Thanks NDub. It’s very sad. Not that it’s any consolation but he is pushing 70, so it’s far better than being struck down at a young age and missing your kids growing up or something.
ALS sounds like an awful way to go. To have your mind in tact and body fail you like that, no thanks.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:07 AM

TV is better than film right now as far as quality of stories and characters. They are certainly different monsters, but we go several weeks, sometimes months, without getting a decent flick.

BREAKING BAD BEGINS IN JUNE.
A lot of TV blows. We all knows this. But there’s always at least 1-2 shows that run their seasons simultaneously throughout the year that we can watch. Movies go in lulls for several weeks or months. I mean… there was absolute shit in theaters in 2012 until The Hunger Games was released, and some people thought that was a trumped-up Twilight.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
The thing is shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad are really the equivalent of the indie circuit in movies.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
My FiL says he doesn’t want the feeding tube. We’ll see what happens when the rubber meets the road.
I can’t say I blame him though. I think if it were me I’d wait until I was about to completely lose function. Then go out to the car with a few reebs, close the garage door, and start it up.
I’d want every good moment I can get with my family, but I wouldn’t want to burden them either.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
No idea. I’m just getting involved in the project after another manager here quit. It’s been dumped on my lap. The files specifically state a roof inspection has not been done.

April 6th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
We always hear about fundraising and research for cancer, heart disease and diabetes, and rightfully so as those are the country’s top health problems, but ALS sort of takes a back seat. It’s just fucking awful. Like, I can’t think of a worse thing. Maybe it’s just seeing that family I wrote about, because as a writer you try to put yourself in your subject(s) position to better weave the narrative. God damn, man.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
We need Ben Crane to shit the bed – I can’t take watching him play in the final pairings on the weekend. He takes FOREVER on every shot.
April 6th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
The problem with indie flicks is that they’re indie flicks. Most movie theaters don’t carry them. That’s why I’m excited to move to Atlanta in a few weeks as there are theaters for these films.

Really? I thought they were better for home energy efficiency. And were getting cheaper to buy. Didn’t know about the dangers part of that. They really rust? Thought they’d have fixed that by now…

For homes, yes. Our one foreman turned his roof into a metal one last year and has had no complaints. Now, when your walking on a 40 year old metal roof that is 100,000 sq ft, there could be some rusty areas where you can fall right through it.

Though not a neurological disorder, MS is a tough one to watch. I have a family member in advanced stages; wheelchair bound and can only use his right arm/hand. I’m really close with him an seeing him progressively get worse over the last 10 years or so have been really tough.

My strategy was always to ask for mine w/o cheese. Most McD’s will have to make one fresh in order to honor that.
/hates McD’s – stopped going several years ago

So metal roofs on homes -> GOOD. Large metal roofs on warehouses and businesses -> BAD. Got it. Do you guys paint those big roofs white or anything to alleviate heat problems?

Hey Mantis – dumb question for you. Are you aware of any roofing materials that can cause chlorine to be added to the water runoff from the roof? The only reason I ask is that I’m working on a legal case where the property owner is blaming the water company for damage because the water sample had chlorine in it and there was a recent leak/break 2 blocks away, but the concentrations don’t match. The flashing/masonry on the roof is shot and I’m curious if the chlorine came from the roofing/masonry materials.
not sure where the sample collections occurred; chlorine concentrations could be altered by the subsurface material through which the water migrated from the source/point of leak to collection location; ion exchange….
