Rangers Coach John Tortorella Thinks The Arrogant Penguins Should Stop Whining
The Penguins’ Brooks Orpik hit the Rangers’ Derek Stepan knee on knee during Pittsburgh’s 5-2 win last night. Rangers coach John Tortorella was not pleased. He felt this was hypocritical, considering the amount of “whining” the Penguins do related to their “stars,” presumably Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. He wondered aloud what would have happened had one of the Rangers hit either player them the same way.
“Ask the guy who did it,” he said. “Ask him. It’s one of the most arrogant organizations in the league. They whine about this stuff all the time, and look what happens.
“It’s ridiculous. But they’ll whine about something else over there, won’t they? Starting with their two [expletive] stars.”
Here is the “cheap, dirty hit” that upset him.

The rant made no sense. The play was dirty and the refs handed out the stiffest penalty they could. What does any of that have to do with Malkin or Crosby? Tortorella will say anything to get the spotlight on him.

Approach shot on 14 looked good for Woods, though.

…and, there goes Woods’ putt for bird.

Hear Hear. First Millbury, now Tortorella. Glad these little weasels antics are finally getting national attention.

Good for Torts. The Pens are a bunch of whiners from their owner down to their players. Their home telecasts are a joke. If Ken Harrelson did hockey he’d be a Pens announcer. Remember all the crying about how the Isles set hockey back 1000 years for taking matters into their own hands? The Pens like to dish it out but you better not breath on one of their players. I hate the Rangers but good for Torts for calling the Pens out. They better put a Great Gazoo/David Wright helmet on Sidney Crosby. You don’t think the Flyers, Bruins, or Rangers would like to see Sid the Kid miss a playoff series? I don’t want to see Crosby out of action but you can’t go around playing dirty and not expect it to come back and haunt your stars.

I didn’t really see anything cheap. Looked like Orpik was going to check Stepan and he shifted to the left quicker than Orpik could react. I’m not a fan of either team, but I sure hope they meet in the playoffs now!

Remember when Mike Rupp took out Jordan Staal’s knee and was out for 6 weeks? Pens didn’t say a peep. Yet they are whiners because Crosby was when he was 19 years old. It’s still hilarious when teams like the Flyers and Rangers are calling the Pens whiners while they are doing the same thing. But you know how it is.

Way to go Torts. Orpik did the same thing to Franzen last preseason. Hopefully he got up and was not severely injured.

I dunno..that certainly looked as if Orpik knew he would miss the check and stuck out his knee on purpose. Not to mention that those two were going at it throughout the game. Torts does have a poj nt regarding the organization, but not regarding the whiny players. I do remember how the Pens threw games to finish with the worst record so they could draft Crosby…and I do remember them doing the same thing the year before they drafted Lemieux. But yo know how it is…

Incorrect. It was not possible to throw games in a season that never happened. Crosby was picked in the draft that followed the lockout.
April 6th, 2012 at 8:12 PM
I think you mean throwing season when they hyped up Josef Melichar and Konstantin Koltsov as the new generation. Woof.

I stand corrected. You do npot, however, deny tanking games for Lemieux.

The Pens should have erected a statue of Mario from when he challenged Darius Kasparaitis and almost crapped himself when Darius went right back at him and said “Okay let’s go.”

This should make for some even higher quality playoff hockey. Should be interesting to see how the Rangers deal with the top seed. I wouldn’t a first round matchup with Washington, nor would I love a potential second rounder with Pittsburgh.
