Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine Will Do a Weekly ESPN Radio Show in New York With Michael Kay
Another day. Another report of Bobby Valentine’s nontroversial trolling. The Red Sox manager has agreed to do a weekly radio show during the regular season, in New York, with Yankees play-by-play announcer Michael Kay. Apparently, Kay wants to suffuse himself in the schadenfreude first-hand.
“Why, there aren’t any Boston fans in New York?’’ he asked. “ I’ve known Michael for a long time, I’ve known ESPN for a long time. They asked. I agreed.’’
He purportedly did not foresee why this would be controversial.
“Maybe,’’ he said. “I have no idea. I never thought there would be, but since you’re both talking about it and probably plan to write about it, there’ll probably be some discussion about it, if not already. But there’s nothing. There are going to be no secrets on that show. All it’ll be, do the show, and they’ll be happy I turned down the show on FAN, which is totally a Yankee show.’’
As with most of Valentine’s antics, this is just nonsense. He presents no true reason to be offended, yet does things for no reason but to offend. He creates controversy, just to create controversy. Instead of deflecting attention from his players, a la Jose Mourinho, he’s helping the Boston and national media construct a giant magnifying glass above them.
Valentine’s energy will prove infectious. Interpret that how you will.

seems like the perfect move for the audience ESPN radio draws.

Offense is taken, not given. Anyone offended by this only has themselves to blame.

Yes, people are offended.

Shopping for bathroom renovation.

Working til 3:30, then the head boss is having happy hour at his house at 3:30. I’m sure that won’t be a shitshow.
April 5th, 2012 at 4:36 PM
what are you renovating in the bathroom? complete tear down?
April 5th, 2012 at 4:37 PM
I heard the interview he had yesterday with couple jackasses on Boston radio. As expected, absolute trainwreck. Valentine even did the “are you serious with that question?”. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Also lol redsox. Great start to the season!

I don’t fully understand this… you make a lot of comments about a team you don’t like. It’s like Sarah Palin going on GMA and dropping as many snide only Republicans are real Patriots comments as she can. As some point you (and everyone else, you aren’t alone) just sound pathetic if you spend that much time obsessively showing your distaste for another team. I try to make sure I spent the vast majority of my time rooting for my team to do well, rather than worrying about what some other team/fan base is doing. Who gives a shit? If the Red Sox lose, I don’t feel a heck of a lot better if the Yankees do too.

That’s still a little undecided. Hopefully figure out tomorrow. At the least we’re doing new vanities, counters, faucets, mirrors, floor and toilette. We may rip out the shower and jacuzzi tub too and replace with larger shower and more cabinets.
April 5th, 2012 at 4:42 PM
btw those little tubs with a few jets in them are the most useless things ever. Who ever uses those fucking things? A: No one!
April 5th, 2012 at 4:44 PM
Anyone ever have a shower with multiple shower heads? Thinking about something like that, but not sure we have enough water volume to do it.
April 5th, 2012 at 4:44 PM
good luck with that. sounds like a larger bathroom if you’ve got a tub and a shower.
if it’s one thing i learned from the previous owners of my home, don’t skimp out on the bathroom reno. it really shows and it’s worth the extra time and money to do tile instead of bathfitters, tile instead of laminate, etc.
April 5th, 2012 at 4:45 PM
i’ve got a dual shower head. it’s OK. volume and water pressure are alright, but i’d prefer a single, larger showerhead over dual.
April 5th, 2012 at 4:48 PM
Not that big but space is laid out well, except for the useless tub. Take out tub and BAM tons of room for a nice sized shower. We’d definitely be doing the tile shower. I would like to do a fixed shower head with a hand shower and a couple body sprays, but we’ll see about that. Might have to just do the regular shower head.

I’ve been telling my wife this. A great master bath will sell the house down the road.

just be careful not to overdo it. saw a house like that when we were looking, they essentially overdid the bathroom in hopes that it would sell the house, but it was so overdone it didn’t go with the rest of the house and they were definitely not getting their money back on it.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:05 PM
How about getting rid of snakes in the living room? We decided not to re-do the bathrooms too in depth even though they were original from 1981. Just didn’t have the money with all the other repairs right now. The wife re-painted and put new trim on both baths though, and we are replacing the toilets/mirrors/lights/etc) We used the money to get the vents in the crawl space fixed and repair the rotted rim joist that the deck was sitting on, so maybe advertising “no snakes” on the for sale sign will sell ours…
April 5th, 2012 at 5:05 PM
I’ve always said if I ever build a house or do a major renovation this is something I want for sure. I don’t think volume is the issue, I think it’s pressure. almost all houses will have no bigger than an inch and a half, usually a 1″ line going in, so it’s pretty much all about pressure.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:12 PM
Is that narrower pipes = faster flow = lower pressure? Because it sort of seems counter-intuitive, and I’d think a wide pipe would allow more volume flow… pressure is important but you still need enough flux, right?
Sad part is I did pretty well on fluid dynamics back in school.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:20 PM
depends on the length of the pipe as well
April 5th, 2012 at 5:20 PM
that is a little over my head honestly. we do a lot of water line stuff at my job and it’s always 1-1.5″ lines. honestly I think if you went any bigger than that it would be pretty overwhelming, but I really don’t know.
I think you can do a pressure test at your house pretty easy.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:20 PM
True, it’s a balance.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:21 PM
it has more to do with how far you are from water tank and the elevation of the tank and your house.
dammit, I come here to escape work.
boobs.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:25 PM
Personally I’d fire the guy over it. Sure it’s only once a week but last I checked Bobby V resigned the talking head crap last year and had returned to managing. In that he obviously still wants to me a talking head I certainly wouldn’t let the busy schedule of a manager get in his way…..
April 5th, 2012 at 5:25 PM
Well we are 1/4 mile from the road, so replace the water line would cost $20,000+ I imagine, which is about $19,500 above my budget for it.
We also have a pressurized sewer system, which is the reason I have kept the septic tank/field for now. The costs and electricity involved in the grinder pump installation and maintenance are not fun.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:31 PM
eesh, yeah that is rough. water/sewer stuff is never cheap. They will usually make you get an engineer to do it, plus permits and whatnot.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:37 PM
He’ll be calling in. Plenty of managers do this. He’ll be doing them in Boston as well.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:51 PM
For the record, he can do all the shows he wants. Tito was great on the radio. Just don’t stab players in the back, don’t try to coach through the media. Show a little bit of class, which apparently Francona was the only FO member who had any.
