Both of the big dunks by Griffin were fouls. The first was over the back. The second was a forearm that made contact first before Gasol did anything. The NBA is not basketball, it makes money by being a highlight league. It’s driven more by Sportscenter than by competition.

I love his athleticism, but if Griffin want’s to show true greatness – do a spectacular dunk without committing an offensive foul.

Oh, and who won?

1. It would have been a foul had Gasol been set in position, but he wasn’t able to get up fast enough, so he jumped toward Blake. Had he gone up right where he was Blake would have still dunked on him, it just wouldn’t have put him on the floor and probably wouldn’t have been a foul.
2. There are only a handful of players his size who can jump over a 7-footer to put the ball in.
3. He had to change his trajectory because Pau fouled him.

1. Leading with forearm. Foul.
2. Allowing for #1 above, not as many people can perform this dunk as the last one.
3. He changes trajectory in flight, mainly because he uses that forearm shiver as a 2nd launch point for the momentum needed to complete the dunk. So, assuming he doesn’t forearm Pau in the face AND use his body as a launching pad, he doesn’t complete that dunk. Sounds tough to do…

Usually I would root for an perennial underdog like the Clippers but Twitter makes me hate them. I guess I’m officially old now – you only get 2 points for a dunk.

Just on onslaught of tweets – like “Pau’s confidence must be shaken”. Um they are up 15. I am sure he’s fine.
