Arkansas Places Bobby Petrino on Administrative Leave Pending Further Review

Bobby Petrino ducking out of an awkward situation with a typed note? We’re shocked. The Arkansas coach released a statement acknowledging and apologizing for not acknowledging Jessica Dorrell was the passenger on his motorcycle. Arkansas AD Jeff Long has placed Bobby Petrino on paid administrative leave pending a “thorough review” of the situation.
From Petrino’s statement:
“I regret that I have not publically (sic) acknowledged a passenger on the vehicle. I have been in constant pain, medicated and the circumstances have come out in bits and pieces. That said I certainly had a concern about Jessica Dorrell’s name being revealed. In my press conference, I referred to her simply as “a lady.” My concern was to protect my family and a previous inappropriate relationship from becoming public. In hindsight, I showed a serious mistake in judgement.”
Petrino’s predecessor Houston Nutt was let go, in part for sending a number of text messages to a woman who was not his wife. Though, that was a different administration.
There are two salient issues. The first is Petrino’s initial dishonesty to his employer about the circumstances of the action. The second is the fact the affair happened with an Arkansas athletic department employee who was his direct subordinate. He might have escaped from either in isolation. Paired together they could be problematic for his future. Credit to Jeff Long for reacting soberly and making a decision once the moral indignation dies down. Assuming he was forthright in round two, we suspect Petrino will stay.
If every columnist could provide a detailed sexual and fidelity history before moralizing, that would be lovely.

I have to disagree….if he had a “relationship” with this woman and she reported to him, that’s grounds for termination. Especially if she got the job because of this “relationship”.

I referred to her simply as “a lady.”
One out of two is an even guess.

Wasnt she hired like a week ago? And was on his bike like 3 days ago?
Previous?
Question mark?

It’s Arkansas. I’m just happy they’re not related.

I think he would typically be in deep doo-doo for getting a job for his mistress paid from state funds and then getting caught in an accident a week later. It’s SEC football, though, so all bets are off.
/married 11 years in September, no motorcycle trysts or any other type

Ehh…do you fire a professor who has a consensual affair with a grad student?

As long as Ms. Dorrell didn’t wear a cap from another SEC team, Petrino is cool with it.

Is the grad student being paid to work and he is her boss? If so, YES!

Is she Kelly Kapowski hot? Jeremiah Lasky deserved a promotion after his conquest

Well, the school’s policy handbook wasn’t too hard to locate:
“Even when both parties have consented to a relationship, it is the faculty member, administrator, or supervisor who may be held accountable for unprofessional behavior. Other students or employees may allege that the relationship creates a hostile or abusive environment affecting them.”
This is why you don’t bang people at work. People find out, and then claim your relationship makes their workplace uncomfortable and opens up the employer to sexual harrasment claims from 3rd parties.

There’s gotta be reporters doing Freedom of Information act and sunshine law requests for his school-provided cell phone so they can look at his sexts.

well, I’d think you’d go exclusively by each school’s employee guidelines. Most state schools don’t prohibit teachers and students from banging, they just loudly explain the potential for abuse and the consequences (i.e. termination).

I wonder if he took her off roadin’.

The second is the fact the affair happened with an Arkansas athletic department employee who was his direct subordinate.
Perhaps I missed part of this, been here only briefly this week, but where was the admission or even evidence, beyond the fact that she was riding a bicycle with him, that there was any manner of affair?

Arkansas AD Jeff Long has placed Bobby Petrino on paid administrative leave pending a “thorough review” of the situation.
A few ponderings:
One, how much longer will Petrino’s wife put up with the scrutiny? Even if her hubby didn’t sex up Dorrell, his behavior doesn’t honor his marriage vows.
Two, how quietly/quickly will Dorrell’s fiance call off their impending nuptials. If I was the guy, I would drop her ASAP. “Can’t trust ya, baby. See ya when I see ya.”
Three, what will really come from the “thorough review”? A slap on the wrist? A statement of public rebuke? The Hogs aren’t gonna fire Petrino, or would they? And, given their potential for having a decent season this fall, would they risk the loss of continuity?
April 6th, 2012 at 7:43 AM
No earthly way they fire Petrino. This is the SEC after all, and he’s the guy that made them relevant again. No. Way.

Sucks being that fiance. Everywhere you go, everyone you work with, knows your lady was steppin out.
Swimming coach making around 35K a year, Bobby adds like 7 0′s to that. And he’s got a chopper.

Dang, coop. Competition is tough. Chicks dig bikers.
Maybe that swim coach finishes his masters’ and hightails it back to FLA.
