That summer fantasy league sounds like a ton of fun.

The Saints signed another linebacker, David Hawthorne, so say goodbye to Jon Vilma, right?
Can/would Vilma play weakside at all?

Ugggghhhhhh………..
April 4th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
After last year’s Carolina-Michigan St. aircraft carrier game, I wish they could have found a more marquee opponent for Syracuse.
April 4th, 2012 at 8:26 AM
Yeah Swift looks a little better now but will never shake that pre-pubescent goofiness.

On Anthony Davis and how he might fare in the NBA.
get his ass in the weight room.

Great read on C.J. Wilson. I am one of the few Ranger fans that still like him.

Taylor Swift played a cheerleader in some movie with a guy from the Twilight series. That’s the only time she’s ever been attractive IMO

You don’t necessarily get that much stronger or better at basketball by lifting weights in a weight room. Gymnasts are the strongest humans you’d find but they don’t train in weight rooms to get better at their sport and if you did put them under a barbell they will most likely get crushed.
Strength is not the monolith most lay people perceive it to be.
April 4th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Enjoy reading the old scouting reports on Duncan and Camby. Would be great to read those reports for guys who were busts.

April 4th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Good read. I’ve watched basketball for as long as I can remember but I still don’t think I pick up on some of the little things this guy mentions in his reports.

April 4th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
Got it. Don’t move to Africa.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
may be… i don’t know that for sure but I do know everyone seems to assume every skinny college big man can’t defend the post and needs to get bigger. I also know that the co-relation between physique and basketball strength is simply a visual illusion so the assumption is wrong sometimes although i can’t necessarily tell you which times without watching tonnes of tape.
However if one needed get stronger at basketball i’ll recommend simply playing more and some basketball specific drills however it would make the job so much easier if they just got better genes in the first place since a significant component of functional strength is innate.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Yikes. Looks a little too white trashy for my tastes.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
that’s a variant of the rusty trombone, isn’t it?
April 4th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Probably wasn’t the scouts’ job to do the fixing or even recommend that he could be fixed. That probably falls more on the coaches.

Is that the transgender gal that got booted from the Ms. Universe pageant in the round-up pic?
Justified. Awesome. Can’t trust Kentucky prostitutes.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Yeah, I never would have guessed. Seriously, that article sucked. He had some things go wrong in life. Most people do. But that hardly scratches the surface on why someone buys a gun and goes on a shooting rampage. You can’t get at those real reasons without serious and lengthy study of the subject.

April 4th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
the tornadoes yesterday were bad, but they were covered like it was joplin or something. seemed a little much.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
We got four holes in at TPC Craig Ranch (through the First Tee deal) before we heard the tornado sirens going off and got the hell outta dodge. Rode out the storms in their clubhouse.
I highly suggest getting out there for $69 this month while they’re running the deal. I was blown away.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Eh…if someone wants to comment on women’s basketball go for it. 40-0 is pretty badass, even though it’s in women’s bball, which I find akin to nails on a chalkboard.

Can baylor fire scott drew and have kim mulkey coach the men’s team?
April 4th, 2012 at 9:20 AM

April 4th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
I went through Wichita Falls in ’79. That was a man’s tornado. Yesterday was just some big wind.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
I’ve been living in Australia (No.9) for the last 9 months and I’ve never been as stress free as I am here. People are relaxed, leave the office at a reasonable time, only dumb ass Americans would ever work on the weekends and they just enjoy life. I miss the shit out of some stuff in the US, but live in a good country for awhile and it will make you rethink your values.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
The weather channel gets its dick all jazzed up when tornadoes hit and they have live footage.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
I’m not sure I follow. so are you saying that a guy like Dwight Howard being so much better than a guy like Shawn Bradley in the NBA had nothing at all to do with how big they were, it was because Shaq just practiced that much more? I’m not a big NBA guy, but I don’t think I agree with your theory.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:22 AM

April 4th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
How is Jamaica not in the top 10?
April 4th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
It cracks me up when people call Americans lazy. We work so much more than most (if not all) western economies. We are terribly inefficient, though.

I have always wanted to visit Australia ….without the flight!
April 4th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
I saw a tweet earlier in the tournament regarding their game with Florida. Said Lady Gators were one of only a few teams to play Baylor within 20 points. They lost by 19.

April 4th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
You really think Dwight, LeBron, Wade, Kobe, Rose, etc. got stronger by just playing basketball? Those guys bust their ass in the weight room.

And it goes back to Limehouse earlier in the season saying, “I always back a winner.” And you know who that winner is? Raylan Fucking Givens.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
I’m a firm believer in other life in the universe. But I’m not a believer in flying saucers coming to Earth. Things like this have been proven time and time again to be flares, lights from weather balloons, planes or something along those lines. Videos like this aren’t even fun anymore.
That’s a bit excessive. They were covered in this manner because the cameras were turned toward the storms and prepared for anything. Joplin got about two weeks of coverage. This is day two and they’re already talking about Romney.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
That NBA Scout blog is awesome.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
I concur with inefficency. However, Americans on the whole have higher levels per 100 of mental illness and health issues than any other country in the world. Maybe if we have federally mandated vacation time along with a greater sense of enjoying life rather than making money, maybe we wouldn’t have such issues?

the today show lead off with 10 minutes of coverage, and sent al and the crew down here for what amounts to some blown over houses.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
That’s badfuckingass. Australia has been on my mind since sixth grade when we learned about the Outback. Then LOST came along and rekindled my love. The country is on my pre-35 bucket list.

Just saw picture of Petrino in neck brace and scarred up face. Damn dude, wear a helmet. You know, like your football players do. He is lucky.

At least you recognize they still had some left over from 2007.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
It was certainly awesome as always but the level of incompetence in guarding prisoners was a bit much.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Oh…I totally agree with this. It blows my mind when companies don’t provide a certain number of vacation days. It’s so much better than what many do. My first job out of college made me work a year before I was given any paid time off, as if I was working for a newspaper just to get a paid vacation for a week or two a year.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I mean, I’ve seen a shit ton of these ‘happiest nations’ studies and Jamaica is always in the top 3 so…no.

That’s silly. Mulkey’s a Nike coach and doesn’t have access to the Adidas funds that Drew uses to get players like Perry, Pierre and Isaiah.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
Just have Davis do some core training and he’ll be fine.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I say they bust their asses and build up doing mostly plyometrics and other basketball related workouts with a dash of weightlifting.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
So? These happened yesterday afternoon, not two weeks ago. I don’t see the Joplin comparison.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
The tornadoes hitting a huge metropolitan area had alot to do with that. Doesn’t often happen.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Yes… they might have also bust their ass in the weight room but the case for causality mostly exists in the realm of visual illusions.

Australia is awesome and you should do it. I’m 37, so I’m a little past my prime, but I’ve had a great time drinking, traveling in my off time and just enjoying life. I live in Melbourne which is the better city to live in AU, but you could go anywhere in this country and have a good time.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
the tornadoes yesterday were bad, but they were covered like it was joplin or something. seemed a little much.
Natural Disasters = RATINGS!!!!!!!!!!!! In Easterbrook’s book Progress Paradox, he has a bit on a TV station that upgraded it’s weather dept with better computers, graphics, etc. No ratings increase. They then changed the weather updates from “Weather Center” to “Storm Center” and pitched more possible storms and leapt to the top of the local ratings. It’s also possible they got a Weathergirl.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
The tornadoes hitting a huge metropolitan area had alot to do with that. Doesn’t often happen.
happens in the dfw area about once a year.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
when you consider a lot of the anti worker sentiment in the US it’s not surprising it carries over into vacation time provided.
i mean, job creation is still pretty bad, people who can’t get jobs are called lazy, people who are underemployed are told to just be happy they even have a job, and wages aren’t increasing for the workforce, despite companies making profits off an extremely overworked workforce.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
Correct your body mostly gets good at what you train it at. Here’s a very simple case of 2 similar exercises… you could bench 450 lbs but most likely can’t do a single planche push up if you never trained at planche. You could also do many planche push-ups and couldn’t bench 225 if you never did bench
i’ve been in and train peopled in both positions.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
It’s foolish to think NBA guys don’t hit the weights hard. Plyometrics and circuit training are fantastic for muscle endurance, toning and cardiovascular training, but there comes a point when a player has to build muscle through weight/resistance training. Plyometrics/circuit allow the muscles to be trained with heavy weights.

Worked for some large companies….some small companies, but I don’t think I’ve been happier than the company I work for now. Plenty of vacation time, the ability to work from home, bonus potential that’s achievable…..it only makes me want to work harder for them. The companies that offered shit, got less in return from me.

Yeah, sometimes the show gets a bit campy, but the payoffs are worth it. The whole Quarles plot has sometime veered over the line, but usually rights itself.

part of it is the lower and middle management, i think. my old manager set up a sharepoint portal for hours adjustments, with a mandatory field for the reason you need to adjust your hours on that day. she told my new manager when he took over, she wanted all of us to use that public forum to “really think whether we need to adjust our hours”

Been to Denmark a few times, more diverse than you would think, but the government really watches out for the people. Free health care, free higher education. The people are generally good-looking and very tall. Not that friendly though. I’ll never forget the time I saw a girl under the age of 14 sleeping on the train one night I was going back to my hotel. It was 3 in the morning. She probably felt she was in no danger of being assaulted. It’s not the kind of society where that kind of thing happens typically.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Worked for some large companies….some small companies…
I’ve been specializing in strategies for workforce mgmt, dealing with large work sites across the nation. I’d say nationally the spectrum is pretty even, some areas people will take reduced salaries and other places people will take the fewest and grab as much overtime as possible. Another trend is opt-in time off, where if a site is overstaffed people can go home, no impact to their vacation levels, it becomes unpaid time.

There are so many people in management that don’t belong. FWIW, my boss is fantastic. Very much a “work hard, play hard” type.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Yeah it’s some bullshit with this staggered opening. Unfortunately when there’s a full slate of games on Saturday, I’ll be watching the Masters mainly.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Considering this is the most active early tornado season in history, the coverage is warranted.

It really has been bastardized. Extremely disappointed that I have something to attend between 6 and 10 tonight for work. Will miss the first pitch in the states for the first time in a very long time.
I will, however, be cracking hopefully my 2nd beer at this time tomorrow. Opening Day at Wrigley is keeping me on the straight and narrow for today.

Considering you and I see eye-to-eye on a lot of things here, especially TV and film, I should probably start catching up on Justified.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
I’ll be watching Red Wings-Blackhawks in the season finale. I just accepted free box seats to the Cubs game on Sunday too. It’s a 1:20 start so I would think that getting home at 4:30 should allow me to catch the final 5-6 holes.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
oh yeah they’re nice… doing some today as part of my shoulder routine. Complex motions always better than that simple push-pull motions although they have their place.
2 ways to make a muscle adapt a) supply it with resistance b) make it think. The latter is quite effective.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
it’s very true, some people just don’t have “it” when it comes to the personality to help grow, cultivate and motivate your workers.
not surprisingly, there’s a change in management from “in house” promotions to “new blood” new hires that’s happening in my company and it’s making a huge difference.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Luckily the don’t send T-shirts over to Africa when the Steelers have 8-8 or worse records. You’re better off missing the playoffs than losing in the SB, from a legacy perspective.

Love them. If you’re into the plyometric/circuit stuff right now, give the Spartacus Workout from Men’s Health a try. It’s awesome. I’ve been doing it twice a week; beginning three times a week this week. If you’ve got an Android, there is a free unofficial app that gives you the 60-15 X 10 timer.

best dialogue on all of TV.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
In 2008 I went to 8 April Cubs games. Since then, I usually only go to Opening Day and then wait until May. But I wasn’t about to turn down free seats to a Sunday Cubs game. Forecast for Sunday says 63 and sunny so I can get away with a hoodie under my jersey and be fine.

Compound movement is where it’s at. Isolation is boring and for glamour muscles, although shoulders often require iso resistance simply because the muscles are small.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:52 AM
To be fair, it’s not free. It’s paid for through taxes.
Which is close to or over 50%. France has a presidential candidate who wants a tax rate of 75% on individuals making $1.3 million or higher. Not households, individuals. That’s fucked up.

I laughed after watching half of it when I realized it was literally just two 3′s during the game. WTF?

I just took a class at my gym — once a week for 4 weeks — didn’t really know any other moves other than the standard move. It blew my mind — it will be a regular part of my routine going forward. I will check out that Men’s Health thing — though I am a machead and have an Iphone, so the app will go by the wayside.

Never seen it, but heard a lot about it. A good friend keeps telling me I’m missing out, and I know I am. But slow pace doesn’t really bother me as I know it’s building characters and setting up something big.

Right. First thing she told me when I accepted the position was that if I was still in the same job in 3-4 years, I wasn’t doing it right. I’ll bust my ass for people that want to help me succeed.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Hey Boston folks… What are the chances Bard heads back to the bullpen now that Bailey is pretty much toast? I read Valentine and Cherington’s comments yesterday but I have to think that this situation will be played as it goes along. If Bard struggles as a starter and either Melancon/whoever can’t get it done, I’d have to think they move Bard back to the pen at that point?
April 4th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
I think it goes to what people desire. Those in the Scandinavian countries want health care and education to be off of their plate and they’re willing to pay for it. We aren’t.

Pours one out for Rubicon.
Seriously, though, you’d love Justified. The pilot episode is great then it has a 4 or 5 episode lull (still good though) before the overall story arc comes into play. I’ve got Season 1 on DVD and keep passing it around to anyone that will take it.

Kettlebell workouts must be a guy thing.
I did have 3 people tell me over the past two days that I look like I lost weight. I tried not to take that to mean I must look a lot fatter than I thought I did.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
what do they sell?
April 4th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
wow, how are they employed?
the good ole boys network. they’ve been selling a ton for a long time. my biggest pet peeve with work is how old everyone is. i’ve been saying for awhile now that we need to get younger.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
There might be an app for the iPhone. But the whole point of the app is to keep you on pace. You do a 60-second circuit and she barks out the start, 30-second mark and end to you. Tells you to rest for 15 seconds, then takes you to the next workout. You must stay on the 60 circuit, 15 break, repeat 10 times thing if you really want it to work. Then you get a two-minute break before you do it all over again. Three total circuits. It’s fucking awesome.
April 4th, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Does anyone else want to strangle the person who says this to you when you come to a new job? The HR lady (of a very conservative company) said this to me when I first started at my old job and I almost started laughing. Sure you do, honey. Sure you do.

Honestly, I don’t know who said this, but he’s a moron. The French candidate in question is actually leading in the polls up until a May 6th runoff. I think 65% of the French are supporting his tax code.

Similar tax rate to the economic golden age of the American middle class.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:01 AM
Is YouTube blocked? Here’s a video version of it.
Basically you do 60 seconds of a circuit, then take a 15 second break. Do that 10 times then take a two-minute break. Then do it all again, two-minute break, then a third time. It’s a 42-minute workout in total. It focus on your quads – the biggest and most hormonal muscle in your body that stimulates muscle growth all over – core (abs, obliques, lower back), shoulders, and chest and back. Basically, you’re whole body. And you’re drenched in sweat by the end.

my company has two divisions for sales. one, which was created about 5 years ago, has younger talent brought in from other companies in the sales management roles and the other division that’s been around for 22 years has people in management roles since the company started and are very resistant to change.
not surprisingly, the newer division is outpacing the older division by leaps and bounds.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
Burpees: inexplicably kicking asses and taking names since cross fit made it a thing.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Right. First thing she told me when I accepted the position was that if I was still in the same job in 3-4 years, I wasn’t doing it right. I’ll bust my ass for people that want to help me succeed. This right here. My old boss was a dipshit who I had to basically force to give me a raise/promotion. When I came up with an idea for a consolidated system and my boss poo-pooed it, I went to the VP (his boss) with the idea and he immediately moved me under a new manager so I could execute the project. My new manager is awesome and we definitely do the work hard, play hard thing. I’ve accomplished more in the last year of working for him than I did in 2 years working for the last douchebag.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:04 AM

yeah, or at least told to get with the program. normally i wouldn’t care, but it impacts my job since i have to increase sales in the older division for a certain manufacturer we used to compete with up until 5 years ago. the older division doesn’t think it’s a big deal while the newer division has been running with it and has been doubling sales every year.
oh well.

I could never go back to sales. I work with a fair amount of people over age 50 and don’t really have any issues. Mostly because they’re necessary in my line of work. We solicit non-profit gifts from “old money” and they prefer to be prospected by someone closer to their age.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
The women are unbelievable as you can imagine. I’m Team Legs and Ass, and I’ve never been anywhere with more hot 5’9+ women, plus a ton of Asians and even a good number of red-heads along with the blonde’s as you can imagine. It’s a smorgasborg of 8+’s.

I’ve been told that their computer lost what they were working on, only to show them how to un-minimize a window. The same people, multiple times.
This reminds me of when my dad learned computers in the late 80′s as he went to night school. Every time I go over my parents there’s a new toolbar on their internet explorer window.

You keep your liver-spotted hands off my beautiful mother.
This anti-old person stuff is hilarious, as this is the same crowd that loves to hate on Pete Campbell and sings the praise of Roger Sterling every Monday.
But line of the year remains:
What time is it:
SHUTTTTTTTTTTT UPPPPPP!
April 4th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Roger Sterling is a legend, visionary and role model for everyone. I had no idea that John Slattery was only 50. There was an interview with him in this last month’s GQ.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
My old man called me last night saying he’d gotten a free Kindle from Amazon.
Turns out he was just reading Kindle books in Safari on his iPad.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
He’s a philandering racist who would rather coast on previous accomplishments than provide value to his current position…dude has great one-liners but he is a piece of shit
April 4th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Roger Sterling donned black face. He’s racist as fuck. That’s enough for me to dislike him. Although he is funny.
Pete Campbell is a sniveling little punkass bitch, but I like that dude.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Mohawk doesn’t come back to SCDP without that philandering racist.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
But that’s now Pete’s account. Racist Sterling could only blankly clap as Pete throatfucked him in front of everyone.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
I know Roger Sterling would like to believe this despite Pete doing most of the legwork…they were desperate to get back to SCDP, he just sped up the process by getting them drunk

C’mon TBL, do one Google search, this isn’t golf. That someone is the show creator, Dan Harmon.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Pete’s ability to do the Charleston and when he told his father-in-law “Every time you jump to conclusions, Tom, you make me respect you less.” have put me on his side.
Although unwise, I liked it when he when to Cooper about Don’s past. Dumb, but ballsy.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
I loved Don’s artsy chick that unfortunately got hooked on heroin and married that beatnik.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
I’m fine with Community getting rid of Chevy Chase. I like Pierce, but he can be replaced easier than anyone save for Shirley.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
John Slattery can get it.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Harmon’s already come out saying he was in the wrong, I bet they keep Chase around for the next three seasons and the movie
April 4th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Is everyone obsessed with Alison Brie because of that masturbation video? She never looks that hot on Mad Men. Plus now they’re dressing her in fat clothes. She needs one of those pink robes that Betty has that makes her look like a walking tepee.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Trudy Campbell doesn’t do it for me as much as Meghan does. Mostly because of the character mannerisms. I don’t see Trudy wearing a skirt that barely covers her snatch and dancing for me.

April 4th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Way back in season one, when Don is over there and they’re all smoking weed and the hippy starts giving him shit for being a corporate drone and liar, before Don gets the last line is awesome.
Cops show up at other apartment down the hallway.
Stoned Guy: The cops are outside. You can’t go out there.
Don: No. YOU can’t go out there.
Don puts on his coat, opens the door, stoned as fuck, nods at the police as he walks by and puts on his top hat.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
You can’t see anything. It’s just her face. I saw it on The Superficial years ago.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
I hate Pete Campbell. I hope he ends up losing tons of accounts so that Sterling can stick it to him.
April 4th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
may want to hold off on sushi for the next couple days …
Just avoid the tuna. Tuna supplies have been awful and getting worse for months and the ground tuna that most places use for spicy tuna was garbage to begin with. Who knows what you’re getting right now? It could be very hold, very poorly handled, very not actually red fleshed tuna. If you need a raw tuna fix, pay through the nose or you’re taking a chance

April 4th, 2012 at 11:03 AM

Meghan’s tits were great in Hot Tub Time Machine. I’d need to see Alison Brie’s before I could make a fair decision.
