Michigan’s Trey Burke is Entering the NBA Draft
Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports is reporting that Michigan point guard Trey Burke will head to the NBA after just one season in Ann Arbor. Burke was a high school teammate of Jared Sullinger, but was not recruited by Ohio State and went to Michigan instead. The 5’11″ guard flourished in Ann Arbor, averaging 14.8 points and 4.6 assists a game for the Wolverines as a freshman. However, he is probably a borderline first round/early second round selection at 5’11″, and no guarantee to get first round money in the NBA.
Michigan, meanwhile, takes a hit from likely being a top 10 team next year with a star returning point guard and a very good incoming class, to more of a top 20 to 25 type team.
[UPDATE: 3:41 PM est. Burke's father, Benji Burke, tweeted out that "Trey Burke has not declared for the NBA draft. He is still enrolled at the University of Michigan." We will see if that is semantics of timing, "has not declared" versus "will declare", or if Goodman's report proves to be erroneous. h/t: mgoblog]

Please slap anyone who thinks Trey Burke will be D-Wade in the NBA.
/just as stupid as JMac’s statement

The good new for him is that this is a fairly weak PG draft. The bad news is that not a lot of teams in the NBA need a PG, starting or otherwise.

Wow… Same reaction as when I heard he was thinking about it.
Trey went to the perfect system for him. Ball in hands 90% of time. Zone defenses to protect his defensive inefficiencies. Good shooters to surround him.
I am not sure about this decision. Someone is in his ear, but I am not sure it’s the right people. I really think he could have improved his stock by playing at UM for another year, especially with McGary and the rest of UM’s solid recruiting class.

What he said. I had plans for BJ Young and Trey Burke. But I wish them both the best, and if either slips to the 2nd round, I will welcome him to the Pistons with open arms.

As much as I like his game, I don’t think he’s any better than Marshall, Lillard, or Wroten at this time. I think he might have more upside than Kendall Marshall, but the fact that he’s 5-11 doesn’t help him out very much.

Hey Michigan hoops, hope you enjoyed your short but exciting stay in the land of relevance. However, your ride back to shit town is departing.

I’m greatly interested in how absurd the world will be in 15 years.
April 4th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
What are you predicting?
April 4th, 2012 at 3:54 PM
Thomas Robinson really doesn’t make sense for the Cavs now that they have Triston. They’re going 2-guard or center in this draft. I think Gee can start for them.
