Florida Writer Claims LSU Cornerback Mo Claiborne Scored a Four on the Wonderlic Test
Pat Dooley, columnist at Gainesville Sun and a longtime friend of Urban Meyer, tweeted this morning that LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, who is a lock to be taken in the top 10 of the NFL draft later this month, scored a 4 on the Wonderlic Test.
It appears as if this is the first high-profile Wonderlic score from this year’s draft class to leak out. Naturally it will be embarrassing to Claiborne. Last year, two other SEC athletes – AJ Green of Georgia and Patrick Peterson of LSU – also bombed the test (10 and 9, respectively). Green went on to have a terrific rookie year for the Bengals (65 catches, 1,057 yards, 7 TDs) and Peterson was arguably the most exciting rookie in the league who excelled on special teams (less so at cornerback, but he’ll be fine) for the Cardinals.
Claiborne will still go in the top 10. He’ll be a lockdown corner in a couple years. And the only time anyone will reference his Wonderlic test is to bash Pat Dooley and wonder who leaked this to him.

As long as he got the questions about Man Coverage and Cover 2 right, I think he will be okay.
April 3rd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
The Wonderlic has much too high a profile for a test that means absolutely nothing.

Suddenly I have investment ideas to pitch Claiborne.
Here’s the deal Mo we build a whiskey distillery in my house you will triple your money. That’s three times more. Sign here.

True to the first part. Though if he becomes a TO or if later on he becomes a Dennis Rodman going into bankruptcy – they might reference that.
As fans we tend to think, “What does it matter if the guy gets the job done on the field?” And, from a team / fan perspective this is true.
But, from a human perspective, too many athletes sadly lead unwise, self-destructive lives off the field, in spite of the opportunities their on-field prowess has given them (we all do, to some degree). I hope that his family and advisors will help him use his resources wisely (as I hope for all the other pros).
As to such leaks, I hate it when these things come out – for the sake of the kid and his embarrassment.

Vince Young had a horrible wonderlic and look how he turned out.

Naturally it will be embarrassing to Claiborne.
I doubt it.
/Dollar signs.

Even worse, he thought the test would be grading his ability to perform cunnilingus.
April 3rd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
It’s not meaningless, and there is probably data here that the teams sports psychologist can use to teach a handler to teach this kid pro football. but in the meantime, kid, bump and run.
It will be a miracle is he’s there at the 6th pick, and if he is, somebody will trade up to get him.

Ah, another outstanding product of the Ole War Skule.
Hey, it’s not like they’re gonna ask him to find McNair’s killer or anything intellectual like that, right?

Wonderlic IQ scoring is a bunch of BS. Most successful agents are all able to get a hold of a copy of the test to prep there players beforehand. Matter of time before players realize it is pointless. This test only becomes obviously ridiculous when players score this low or high (see: McElroy, Greg). They probably are not that smart or dumb, just either don’t care about taking a test or are being pointlessly competitive.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:01 AM
Is it ironic that, Pat Dooley, who is more or less claiming that Claiborne is illiterate, misspelled Wonderlic?
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:02 AM
i think it’s great that people assume wonderlic scores essentially determine whether someone is a genius or Lenny from “of Mice and Men”
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:02 AM
True story: A guy I went to high school with scored a 7 on the ACT and got into LSU.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:02 AM
Hopefully Jerry leaked this in hopes that Claiborne will drop down to the Cowboys.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:03 AM
And now the tweet is gone.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:04 AM
wonder what his football IQ is…also, id wonder what those supernerd mathematicians at NASA and the NSA would score…you hear shit about managers having to remind some of these geniuses to shower and eat.
claiborne is a beast on the field…if he’s enlightened or a savant doesn’t particularly matter, especially at CB.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:04 AM
lenny would’ve been a great offensive tackle.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Yeah, this idiot isn’t falling to 14. That would be nice, though.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:07 AM
shit, im hoping the rams trade back up to 4, browns down to 6 and they can grab him there.

until he accidentally killed troy polamalu while stroking his flowing locks and peyton manning had to take him for a walk by the stream on the farm.

I believe in background vocals, a college football playoff, Marriott upgrades, baby back ribs and long, slow, wet tugs on draft beer.

interesting to know NASA would have their own equivalents of Mark “Stink” Schlereth pissing themselves during rocket launches and constantly referring to NASA as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in conversations and analysis.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:12 AM
killing troy polamalu is a bad thing?
/joe flacco’d
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:14 AM
It’s a story, but a minor and almost unimportant story. If Claiborne was blowing off meetings with GMs or getting arrested (you know, things that could hurt his draft stock) it’d be important. Since Claiborne is likely to go Top 5 still, I don’t think it’s that important.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:19 AM
did anyone listen to Lisk’s deal on espn the other day? did he drop in any veiled tbl lines like a sexy ambulance?

“at the NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE AMINSTRATION you just CAN NOT use the dyson series if H does not depend on time. that’s the price you pay. you understand that going in. if you want to make the playoffs, you have to use the stone theorem. stone theorem wins championships unlike those sissy quarterbacks.”
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:22 AM
This says more about LSU as an educational institution than it does about Claiborne. With a score that low, you have to question whether the kid can even read. There are several questions on the Wonderlic that most young children who can read would answer correctly.
As a tool for evaluating players, the Wonderlic would only seem to be relevant for QBs.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:22 AM
I wonder how many of these players actively dont give a shit about this test and dont even read it and only half heartedly fill in answers. Kind of like, ‘who the fuck cares what I get on this test, it’s not going to effect me getting paid’
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Did that Honey Badger kid declare for the draft after getting exposed as more overrated than light beer in the title game?
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:22 AM
I will fondly remember Clairborne’s college career with this play.
Go Hogs.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Yeah I’m sure this is completely isolated to LSU and not symptomatic of “student athletes” everywhere.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Is it really possible to get a 4 on a multiple choice test? Even going with the tried ‘n true “When in doubt, Charlie out” Method, you’d think he could nail at least a 7. Sadly, I guess this is indicative of him actually trying to answer correctly.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:24 AM

Like University of Texas should own up Vince Young’s Wonderlic score?

Naturally it will be embarrassing to Claiborne
He’s too stupid to be embarrassed by it.
April 3rd, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Honestly, though, why does this reporter being Urban Meyer’s friend have anything to do with this story?

Don’t give a shit. Having said that, please wage full on jihad against him for this. While we’re at it, let’s drop a bomb that he smokes weed and has a warrant out for his arrest. Then maybe he’ll plummet to Atlanta at 55.
/yes, I know this is not happening

An unfortunate facet of that very entertaining film is that it featured absolutely no shots of Ms. Smith in a bikini or sans clothing.
Summer School also had the smokin’ Shawnee Smith, who also starred in the 1988 remake of The Blob.
