Penguins-Flyers. Not Rangers-Flyers.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:18 AM
hope those mickey d employees sue the woman to get their share.

If Marcus Camby is the floor comparison for Anthony Davis, what is his ceiling? Tim Duncan? Garnett? A combination of both?
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:19 AM
Karl Malone Jr has a son of college age?
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:20 AM
Anyone check out the miniscule Hulk Hogan behind the Flyers bench?? I just wanted to see a Flyers player go over the glass & into the stands and punch the guy in the face. Funny how these fans are all tough when there’s 8ft high glass wall between the athletes & the fan.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:21 AM
And even though this should probably be saved for Ballin’, does anybody LOVE nationally televised games more than Rajon Rondo? Sweet Jesus, he destroyed the Heat yesterday.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:23 AM
check their freshman seasons. Davis more advanced now. Not sure if he’ll continue to improve offensively like Duncan did, though.
Also, great post idea. thanks.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:23 AM
Fell for the Kutcher/Jobs thing, eh?

Wonder how this column went over: “Pat Summitt should end Tennessee Lady Vols’ pain by retiring.”
So sad. Difficult for all parties involved, and moreso for the Summitt family. Hopefully, the coach is allowed to transition in a manner that is dignified & respectful of all she did for women’s basketball.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:27 AM
Guy is a season ticket holder who gets a little of publicity, which is unfortunate. If it was a Brother Love impersonator no one would care, sadly.

I’m surprised this kind of dispute doesn’t happen more often. I’m also surprised that folk buy in pool fashion, knowing most of us don’t like to share (LOL).
I don’t play lotto, but if I did I sure wouldn’t buy tickets with a group of folk.

I dont know that the employees have a recourse, especially if the lady can prove she did in fact make a separate purchase. Shit, even if she didn’t, if there’s no contract those employees are screwed.

My grandmother has Alzheimer’s and it’s so fucking sad. I spoke with her over the weekend and she wished me a happy new year. Ugh!
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:31 AM
Well, now we know that Mahan won’t win the Masters.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:35 AM
Davis ceiling would be more Hakeem than Garnett. That’s meant as a compliment.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:38 AM
My grandmother has Alzheimer’s and it’s so fucking sad. I spoke with her over the weekend and she wished me a happy new year. Ugh!
My 90-something year old grandfather hasn’t been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but he’s been slipping these last few years. He’ll ask the same three or four questions repeatedly during a conversation. He was sharp as a fucking tack before that. First time he did that to me I broke down on the drive home.

My grandmother has Alzheimer’s and it’s so fucking sad. I spoke with her over the weekend and she wished me a happy new year. Ugh!
My grandmother had to constantly be reminded who I was but knew the house my grandfather grew up in 70 years prior. Took a big toll on my mother just trying to stay sane.

My paternal grandfather had it. Towards the end, he could remember things from his childhood as clear as ever, but if he was more than a mile from his house, he couldn’t find his way home.
/what a drag it is getting old’d
You got that right.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:42 AM
I’m pretty sure there’s a story about his recent battle with cancer too.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:42 AM
Well, now we know that Mahan won’t win the Masters.
Phil did it 2 years ago. It’s a little more likely now that in the past since the tourney is in Houston and they try to get the greens lightening fast. I’d rather have Hunter in a pool than about 85 other players, for sure.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:43 AM

i have no grandparents. i miss that part. the family just doesn’t seem as close after they passed away.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:44 AM
I don’t think anyone would take it any other way since I think Hakeem is the most underrated player of all time. Also, just happened to hear a clip of Mike and Mike on the way to work and they were talking to everyone’s favorite analyst, Robert Knight and he actually compared AD to Bill Russell. Pretty high praise from someone who can’t stand Calipari or Kentucky. Guess he really can’t be THAT dumb.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:46 AM
I’d rather have Hunter in a pool than about 85 other players, for sure.
i’d like to watch hunter mahan die a slow, painful death. i hate that guy.

Just put the nursing home thread up later. Monday is terrible enough. Ugh. Also, will the Mad Men posts be on MON or TUES, as I havent watched yet…

I still think a Euro not named McIlroy wins it. Just not sure who yet.

Was just thinking this the other night as well. Spooky.
“Md. woman won’t share $105M lotto jackpot with McD’s co-workers”
She’s gonna be cut off from buying the McRib!
NBC Sports Network ratings continue to plummet.
I’d watch it if it was in my basic sports package. It’s not. It’s on the premium package. So is CBS Sports Network — so I guess I should be glad I never have to see/hear Jim Rome ever again!

He kind of has a NASCAR schtick and he was notorious for these tacky product placement gimmicks in post-round interviews. But right now his game is doing all the talking. And he married a Cowboys cheerleader.

Wait.
The same NFLPA that allowed owner collusion to artificially deflate the salary cap is now warning Aints players that they could face criminal charges for their bounty ring?
This bush league psyche-out stuff. Laughable, man.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:51 AM
I’m sure jck enjoyed the end of Game of Thrones last night with all that baby hate he has.

redstone in houston looked awesome yesterday. i went the the SHO in 2004 when that course had first been opened, and it looked like ass. it has come a long way.

can any NBA people confirm this? he’s a good player, but watching him this year I didn’t really see 1st round talent, but I don’t know shit about the NBA. would love to see him stay with the Hogs for another year or two, he didn’t sign with an agent.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:52 AM
It wasn’t sensationalized writing, and its a story someone would inevitably have to write. I think she’s providing cover for her assistant for the next few years, giving her an opportunity to prove herself.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 AM
I’m being podcast tonight, the show will publish my 1-96 rankings. I also had Keegan as a top choice, he’s like Hunter in that sick long & straight off the tee. Hunter is a better iron player but Keegan is a bit more opportunistic on the greens. But Hunter’s been on a terror since he switched putteres (his old putter was offset/mis-aligned and causing him to miss a ton of putts right.)
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 AM
I haven’t watched The Killing yet. I was too busy being disappointed by GoT. but that’s my own fault for reading the books.
ill talk about a yearling bison fighting one wolf to the pain, and another wolf utterly to death, though.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Just started watching year 1 on Netflix this weekend and dvrd last nights. Interesting show so far.
Mad Men….man did Betty get big when she was pregnant in real life. It was pathetic last night to suggest the character might have cancer but is just fat. How about Harry going all Harry and Kumar as he got a sack of sliders? Classic.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 AM
I think the mild “winter” has helped them a lot.
I imagine TPC Four Seasons and Colonial will be fully wilted by mid-May.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Really need to implement spoiler tags around here for TV talk.
I’m sure this hasn’t been brought up 1000 times either.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:54 AM
I’m a fan as well, although that fucking long putter can go straight to hell. needs to start dipping again too, or doing whatever that spitting thing was.

i must make the colonial this year.

So, umm, On The Range live video starts at 9am today for the Masters app.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:56 AM
Me too. Haven’t been to that one yet. I’d like to get a Wednesday/Thursday ticket and park at the practice range from 8AM to noon.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:57 AM
not long enough off the tee to take advantage…who cares, it’s rory’s jacket anyways.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:58 AM

Holy shit is that guy twitchy.
He toned it down a bit after the complaints at Tuscon & Riviera. He & Dustin Johnson are big smokeless guys but I think they are catching flak for all the spitting.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:58 AM
I actually watched most of this episode last night, my first time viewing Mad Men. Do most people think this girl is attractive? She looked like a linebacker getting out of the tub.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Go fuck yourself.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Great cropping of Minka up there.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Between GoT, Mad Men, and The 2012 Masters spoilers, I’ll just see y’all tomorrow.
April 2nd, 2012 at 8:59 AM
I live less than 5 miles from Redstone but haven’t made it out to the SHO yet. Maybe next year…
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I started to watch at 9, but apparently there were two episodes last night, starting at 8?
So I’ll try again later this week.
Freshman stats to freshman stats comparisons don’t really work anymore. 18 years ago when Camby was a freshman, he had to deal with upper classmen who weren’t awful.
Nowadays, freshman get all the minutes, because if you’re a junior-senior on a college roster, you probably suck.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I have a hard time seeing him be better than Garnett who peaked at 24-14-5. I don’t think Davis will ever be an elite scorer (18-24 range seems about right) but he will be a great defender, so the Camby comparisons would be apt there.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:00 AM
i haven’t watch it yet, but i’ve had a bad feeling about season 2 for months.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:01 AM
Plus with AAU tourneys all summer long, freshman come to campus way more seasoned than they did 20 years ago.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:01 AM
Would you take Rory/Phil/Tiger at 3/5 or Everybody Else at Even?
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:01 AM
I live less than 5 miles from Redstone but haven’t made it out to the SHO yet. Maybe next year…
lot of good courses out that way.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:02 AM
rory/phil/tiger at 3/5.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Don’t…it’s just hard to catch up everything in one hour. Last night’s episode should have been 2 hours. Plus, the casting of Melisandra, Stannis and Davos is beyond great.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:02 AM
That pic of the woman who won is one classy lady, love the button missing in her short (boob shot)

Shhh! I still need to watch it.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:04 AM
BJ Young going pro, Kane Whitehurst popped for greenery, and Bobby Petrino is in the hospital after a motorcycle accident.
Rough weekend in Fayetteville.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Yep, it seemed like they were rushing to get in everybody’s storyline. Still enjoyed it, and I can’t wait to check out Betty the whale after work today.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:06 AM
He & Dustin Johnson are big smokeless guys but I think they are catching flak for all the spitting.
if spence and i were on tour… look out. i’d have fat chaws in like i was getting paid to dip.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:06 AM
That’d be my wager.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:07 AM
yeah, i thought the casting was great when the announced it, i’m just hesitant on how they will get all the storylines their due as the GoT world becomes more complex with only 10 episodes per season.
I might save up episodes and watch them in bunches.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Did that story say how many tickets the WacArnolds employees bought as a group and how many she bought on her own? I’m in a 100-person lotto pool where we get $200 tickets and they come in these sheets of 20-25 combinations per ticket. But these are McD’s employees so they all might have kicked in a dime and bought 1 ticket per the 10 of them.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I’ve been watching him all year and I didn’t think that would be the case either. Then all of a sudden he started knocking down 17 foot jumpers with ease. And now he’s showing off that right AND left handed jump hook. He’s averaged 14 ppg this year on only about 8 shots a game. And he’s a damn good foul shooter as well. I really think the sky is the limit for this kid.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I think the best comp for Davis is an evolutionary Andrei Kirilenko. He’s going to be a terror on defense in 4 years.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I am not sure I get the Anthony Davis comparisons… I don’t see his game as particularly resembling Hakeem, Duncan, Garnett or even Camby. The closest is Camby may be but Davis’ offense is already more advanced than Camby ever was but still nothing like Hakeem or Duncan or Garnett who all have very distinctive styles that are no more similar to Davis than any other talented skinny big man you can think of.
This sounds like a case of the Wes Welker effect where we confuse similarity in style of play with physical resemblance. Personally his game reminds me of Bert from Sesame Street…. with the unibrow and all.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Plus, the casting of Melisandra, Stannis and Davos is beyond great.
I thought they whiffed badly on two of those. I am so sick of seeing that guy that plays Davos on my television. He’s so ubiquitous. He’s just in so many shows that I’ve seen (that have sucked) and he was even a naked old man already in Strike Back.
Plus, in my head, Davos Seaworth looks like this, not like yet another old british asshole.
Also, the Peter Dinklage accent was killing me last night
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:10 AM
I think this first episode was a basic recap, and then they’ll maybe focus on two-three characters per episode. Plus it’s much harder to do the transition from a central character (Ned) to a more disjointed ensemble. Unless they’re planning on making Tyrion the main focus for the next 2-3 seasons (as they should).
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Clay what disappointed you about GoT last night? I got about 45 minutes in and thought it was going ok… They’re setting up all the story lines for the season. Although I thought the guy they got to play Craster was way too normal looking.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Obscure channel with shitty ratings? Keith Olbermann fires off his resume.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:11 AM
/team the hound
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:11 AM
After a brawl-filled Penguins-Flyers game, if they play in the first round, expect much more fighting.
Fighting always drops off come playoff time, teams can’t afford to get hit with an extra 2 minutes for starting things.
If the Pens/Flyers meet in the first round (which is all but assured), it will be a tough physical series, but I’d expect the gloves to stay on. Assuming no blowouts of course.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
it should make her horrible acting much easier to watch, i would imagine.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
lol @ caption-y thing.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Will NBC & the refs continue to protect Sidney Cry-like-a-baby? Pussy.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Personally his game reminds me of Bert from Sesame Street…. with the unibrow and all.
Ha! Perceptive, you are.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:17 AM
oh man…this is just horrible. 1-foot putt for the win in an LPGA major yoinked.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:17 AM
Will NBC & the refs continue to protect Sidney Cry-like-a-baby? Pussy.
From stuff like this. Probably.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:18 AM
Garnett averaged 10 and 6 as a rookie with 1.5 blocks per game. I think Davis could easily match or better those numbers and while I agree with everyone who says Davis needs to bulk up a little more, KG was not anywhere close to being physically mature when he came into the league either. The thing that may stunt his growth more than anything is playing for Michael Jordan and the suck ass Bobcats.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:19 AM
May be if they thought these things through they would realize that we’re too lazy to push 3 numbers on the remote control to watch Costas or the MLS. If I’m pushing 3 digits on the remote there better be unpixelated tits.
/No nat geo tits don’t count.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Although I thought the guy they got to play Craster was way too normal looking.
things like that. Craster should have looked like this.
And since I’ve seen season 1 of that show, I’ve seen the entire series of the Wire, so all I could see was the mayor of Balmer butchering his british accent.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Waaaaa someone pushed me after I got away with slashing everyone all game waaaaaa
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Yeah, the Schenn hit was kinda weak sauce, but the refs didn’t penalize Crosby for the three slashes he got away with against Giroux, Jagr and somebody else.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
why kids think smoking bud anywhere on campus is a good idea is beyond me.
Knile Davis practiced, without contact, so we got that going, which is nice.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Fuck, gonna have to bring my iPad to work this week so I can watch Masters On The Range.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
It’s much more likely (75%) that he never plays for the Bobcats.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
A little cheap, but nothing to get all riled up about. Shame I was taking a shit during the majority of the brawl. Although I was disappointed none of the coaches kicked the penis head Pierre McGuire in the face.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
is an evolutionary Andrei Kirilenko
I think some of those are valid if you compare them as 20-year olds. I like evolutionary Kirilinko, just saying it sounds funny.
Do the Evolution is a fantastic track from Yield (but not as good as In Hiding) Great distorted riff, Im a thief, Im a liar, theres my church, I sing in the choir.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:22 AM
oh man…this is just horrible. 1-foot putt for the win in an LPGA major yoinked.
That was brutal to watch. She was kinda hot too.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:22 AM
And yet, today I love him. I cant believe I was starting to feel bad for Crosby. What an insufferable piece of shit.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:23 AM
Waaaaa someone pushed me after I got away with slashing everyone all game waaaaaa
I don’t recall him whining or complaining about any of it, could be wrong. All I’ve seen/read was Laviolette acting like a child.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:23 AM
It’s much more likely (75%) that he never plays for the Bobcats.
I saw a mock draft on a blog that dabbles in sports that made me believe it’s a virtual certainty.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
At his pre-injury peak, Kirilenko was a 16-8 guy with 3 blocks per game.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
She took way too much time lining that putt up. Just step up and sink it.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Absolutely. I think Pierre shit himself though.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Do the Evolution is a fantastic track from Yield (but not as good as In Hiding) Great distorted riff, Im a thief, Im a liar, theres my church, I sing in the choir.
Cool video too, also one of my favorite songs live. Yield has a bunch of great songs — Low Light, Faithful, Given To Fly, Pilate, MFC.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
The only person crying like a baby yesterday was Laviolette after Briere got (legally) destroyed.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:25 AM
I know that he wouldn’t do it, but I’d love to see Giroux just deck Crosby.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:25 AM

April 2nd, 2012 at 9:25 AM
You’re wrong. Read some post game quotes.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Me neither. I just ignore those dumb statements since people are blinded by hate and act like their team can do no wrong.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Re: the 1 foot putt. I read her post-round quotes. She was like a brainwashed dummy. “well I am taking away my game is in the right direction”.
No you moron. YOU BLEW IT. YOU BLEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW IT. You missed the shortest putt ever to clinch a major. Take your sports pyschologist and kill them. You are getting ripped off. Loser talk. Heinous.

I did. I even tweeted last night that I probably should have been born a Lannister.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:29 AM
That’s two complaints about perceived accents – you do realize it’s not set in the UK? The accents can be whatever they want it to be.
I really liked last night’s episode – thought it set the season up fairly well. They could have gone 2 hours with it though.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:29 AM
Speaking of the Flyers, I heard they are signing a Maine player, I am pretty psyched.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I mean…she is really sick right now, and she’s not going to get better. I would be stunned if she didn’t retire.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
That and the fact that the only GM in the League that has the ability to botch this pick is Jordan.
/Kwame Brown
//Adam Morrison
///And either Bismack Biyombo or Kemba Walker*
Disclaimer: I think one of these two will ‘flop’. Maybe both. Raw is an understatement for Biyombo’s game and Kemba doesn’t have a position. He needs the ball to be in his hands to be effective but yet isn’t a great passer.
/Off to ponder why I’m not an NBA GM
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
and I was pissed because I missed 3 5-footers for par yesterday.
who says women’s golf can’t be entertaining while they are still fully clothed?
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
TBL, we’ll get a Game of Thrones post, right?
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
You’re wrong. Read some post game quotes.
I read all the post game reviews on this post. Yet to see any whining.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
On cablevision the regular single and double digit channels are HD and I believe the standard def is stowed away in the 500s.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
At his pre-injury peak, Kirilenko was a 16-8 guy with 3 blocks per game.
Yeah I didnt mean to impune Andrei at all. That one season he was at like 4.5 blocks per game early through like 35 games. Filthy.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Not with a stupid title like that.
/have it DVR’d but haven’t watched
//tried to watch after Wrestlemania but I drank too much and fell asleep
///had zombie apocalypse dream
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:32 AM
That’s two complaints about perceived accents – you do realize it’s not set in the UK? The accents can be whatever they want it to be.
I know. But they’re all doing British. That’s the thing. And so you’re listening to Peter Dinklage come in and out of his grandest British accent.
Mainly I’m disappointed because of how pissed of I am at this story, being nearly 4 entire books ahead. If my town organized a book burning, I would take my copies of these books down there. That’s how pissed off I am at where this shit sits right now.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
After a fantastic season premiere last night’s Mad Men was pretty blah. Episodes that center around Betty Draper usually have that effect.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
For those of you that have read A Clash of Kings….how long do you think they’ll take to position all the characters before getting to the meat of the story this season?
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:34 AM
also one of my favorite songs live
Stone is incendiary on that live. Absolutely correct. Eddie really gets into that song as well. Plus it gives Ament a song to sit his ass on that stool and collect himself.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:34 AM
I know that he wouldn’t do it, but I’d love to see Giroux just deck Crosby.
I will continue to enjoy this hit forever.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
No one ever really talks about it here so I have to ask. Does anyone watch Shameless on Showtime? There’s never a dull moment with that one.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
After a fantastic season premiere last night’s Mad Men was pretty blah. Episodes that center around Betty Draper usually have that effect.
Agreed — I thought the first half of the episode was great. Don & Harry working backstage, Don trying to figure out the younger generation. The second half took this weird, almost dark turn — cancer? nahhh, you’re just fat.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
I didn’t think you were, actually. AK is one of my favorite players of the last 17.5 years*
*for Clay
I took a pause about 80% through book 1. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it, either.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
you do realize it’s not set in the UK?
plus, it’s totally set in some alternate universe’s UK. And none of the British actors are doing wonky accents. They’re speaking normally.
And besides that, Aiden Gillen was probably actually butchering a Baltimore accent as I remember him speaking, because he’s Irish or something.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
The headline is pretty harsh, but I agree with Husker. How can they benefit from her still being the coach? I noticed that she doesn’t even give in game (halftime) interviews or was even at the post game press conference after their loss in the Elite 8. And even though its women’s basketball, it’s still the SEC, where negative recruiting is King.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Except I think that guy really is British in real life. Or Irish. I know he’s not American.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Stone is incendiary on that live. Absolutely correct. Eddie really gets into that song as well. Plus it gives Ament a song to sit his ass on that stool and collect himself.
Damnit, I need to see them live again
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Probably another episode…should get into the meat of the story by episode 3. Hopefully, they spend an entire episode on the huge battle at near the end of Clash of Kings.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
I think I’m breaking up with the WWE after last night.
Though, it was nice to see The Rock win.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:37 AM
For those of you that have read A Clash of Kings….how long do you think they’ll take to position all the characters before getting to the meat of the story this season?
the television dramatization actually does not fuck around when it comes to exposition. They just give you meat, meat, meat. There will be some huge happenings next episode. There’s so much shit that happens in these books.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:38 AM
i watch it, not sure if i’ll be back next season. My wife loves it, but i can take it or leave it right now.
I’ve heard rumors they could split books 2-5 into multiple seasons for each book. if they don’t do that, it’s the main reason that makes me hesitant about how they can give each story justice in books 2 and 3. taking anything out of book 3 will ruin the amazing endings.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Except I think that guy really is British in real life. Or Irish. I know he’s not American.
it’s just perception. But like you said. That wasn’t Craster. Craster is way, way grosser than that. And that meeting should have been interrupted by pigs walking through there.
I’ll go tell you on twitter what I’m really mad about.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
The rumors I heard was that this season would encompass most of book 2, and some of the early parts of book 3, since they do overlap. However, I firmly believe that they’ll split the majority of book 3 into two seasons. There’s so much that goes on in book 3.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Child actors are usually terrible on every level, but that little fucker that plays Joffrey is great. I want to give his tongue the Khal Drogo treatment during every scene he’s in.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:40 AM
DirecTV has a setting that replaces all the standard def channel with their HD versions, if available.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Isn’t the NBA draft and quite frankly any other draft simply a gamble. Who predicted that Adam Morrison will be lighting it up in Belgrade after years of DNP-CDs in the NBA? Or contemplated whether they would take Greg Oden if he fell into the late 2nd round.
Quite frankly no one really knows how anyone would react in the pros any more than the other. Some teams get lucky some don’t but everyone believes everything was really obvious after the fact.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Are you getting more and more pissed as time passes from when you finished reading book 5? I couldn’t agree with you more, by the way. Now if only you didn’t rudely call me a cum dumpster the other day… I’d like you way more right now.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Who predicted that Adam Morrison will be lighting it up in Belgrade after years of DNP-CDs in the NBA?
almost everybody.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Now if only you didn’t rudely call me a cum dumpster the other day… I’d like you way more right now.
not only was that rude, it wasn’t even funny. I was just pissed because Jason Lisk is poised to leave us behind.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:42 AM
It was bad, no doubt. I don’t watch wrestling at all anymore, but we had about 12 guys all chip in to get it and drink beer. It was more fun making fun of it then it was watching it. I was happy The Rock didn’t lose though.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:43 AM
that makes sense. considering the next novel may not come out for another 2-3 years it would be good for them to stretch it out.

April 2nd, 2012 at 9:43 AM
I switched to U-Verse and so far it sucks. But the thing that pisses me off the most is all of the standard channels get prime numbers like 3. I shouldn’t have to type four digits just to watch NBC in Hi-Def.
Everyone has HD by now. They should switch that.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:44 AM
He’s gonna die before he gets to book 7. Martin better start writing faster.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:45 AM
They really fucked it up with that opening match. Totally killed the mood until taker/hhh. I’ll probably quit watching in another week or so again.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:45 AM
I agree. He’s much better than the guy who played Malfoy in Harry Potter.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I read they’re splitting book three into two seasons. They could skip all of book four and most of book five for all I care.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Agreed. It’s hard to believe it’s the same little kid in Batman Begins that sees Batman on the balcony.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Can I just say that it was outstanding to watch Ohio State choke away another recruiting class and for Aaron Craft’s flopping roseacia having punk ass lose them the game? Yes, yes I can.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Child actors are usually terrible on every level, but that little fucker that plays Joffrey is great
that little fucker is perfect. He even looks like he’s the product of Aryan incest

Did Bard win the 5th starter spot for Boston or what? Drafted him over the weekend.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
i wish they would have a setting that blocks all non HD programming automatically. i hate the DIY network more and more everyday b/c it’s not HD and 90% of the shows are crap. same with style, mostly because sex and the city is always on and my wife dials that in constantly.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
@dirt: I agree with most of your criticisms of last night’s GoT (rushing plotlines, Leon as Davos, Castor), but I still enjoyed it. You take your TV shows way too seriously.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Everyone has HD by now. They should switch that.

April 2nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Whoa. This is “Warren from Something About Mary is Dan the bodyguard from Deadwood” level of mind blowing.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
This simply cannot happen. At least not before this next football season.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Has he said how many books will make up the entire story?
Between that and all the other stupid, filler bullshit….I would have been irate if I would have shelled out $60 for that at home. However, I spent $15 and had some FANTASTIC entertainment at the bar I was at. Just a few legendary white t performances.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
So you’re saying that I’m going to be pissed off reading book 4 & 5? Great…
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Yes

i’m just an optimist i guess.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM

April 2nd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
ok so we know “almost everybody”‘s draft record is generally impeccable. link?
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Yeah, he did. Aceves was left out of the rotation.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
You take your TV shows way too seriously.
nah. I’m just chit chatting.
So you’re saying that I’m going to be pissed off reading book 4 & 5? Great…
get a short haircut, or you’ll pull your fucking hair out.

7
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Yes
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
i see book 4 and 5 as “endgame” exposition for the series. new story lines established while a long standing storylines start to get hints of clashing in an epic finale.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
I absolutely hated book 4. Book 5 is 850 pages of filler bullshit and 100 pages of interesting.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
They’ll need him in the bullpen even more now that Bailey will be out
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
ok so we know “almost everybody”‘s draft record is generally impeccable. link?
that’s like asking for a link to whether Jimmer would be a bad draft choice. There’s probably thousands, and they’re easy to find. You should have picked a different guy.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
Just bought the first book and was ready to start in on them…then I got roped in to reading The Hunger Games and will probably finish those first. I almost forgot how much more I enjoyed reading than shitty TV. However, good TV is totally better than reading.
Pictures > Words
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:53 AM
Lehigh had their number. Not much you can do about it.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
and outside AMC/HBO/FX/Showtime, good tv is very hard to find these days.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
then I got roped in to reading The Hunger Games and will probably finish those first.
I’ll probably order those today. I’m really good at reading books aimed at tweens.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
JCK – Is it going to be Broxton or Holland for the Royals closing games? Dealing with Drew Storen likely starting the season on the shelf and I see Broxton is available.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
I disagree vehemently. In fact, the only way a book could be less entertaining than TV is if you have a terrible imagination. You pretty much proved that fact when you said you’d go to Vegas after you won the lotto.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Wait, what? Bailey is out? Who is the candidate to close then?
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
I finished book one in a day. Young Adult reading is the best.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
and outside AMC/HBO/FX/Showtime, good tv is very hard to find these days.
it’s funny you say that, because quite a lot of people refer to this as the 2nd golden age of television, because there are so many good shows, and they come without a long summer break.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Pssh but if they weren’t using Duke’s system they could have beat Lehigh by ninety!
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
We talking shitty literature?
Leo is a patient.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:59 AM
I think they’ll give Broxton the first shot, but Holland will eventually be the guy. It’s clear as mud.
Know what I really hate about this? Mrs. JCK totally agreed with you.
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Not for sure, he’s in Boston today getting his thumb checked out and he may start the season on the DL. I’m sure Melancon would fill in.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:00 AM
I actually enjoyed the first Hunger Games book. I thought it would blow…..
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:00 AM
That whole story is sketchy as hell. Can’t tell one way or the other who the winning ticket belongs to. Big difference of one person winning 100 million and 15 people splitting it, but why not make everyone at that McDonald’s dream come true? Because people are selfish that’s why. It says this lady has 7 kids….and a fiance. Lot of people are going to have their hand out one way or the other. I wonder how much will be left once the lawyers are done with this.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:00 AM
I think it’s hard to say it’s a golden age of television when quality on the major networks is non existent across all genres.
cable is where you should be if you want to watch good TV, i don’t think i watch one network show from week to week with the same level of interest i watch a cable show from week to week.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:02 AM
Just finished my most recent book so I’m looking for something to read next. It won’t be the Hunger Games though.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Hilarious. Saw this coming a mile away.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:03 AM
May I suggest…
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:03 AM
I assume it’ll get a post, but I’m still confused at how Ohio State blew that game.

Re: Pat Summitt:
Her agent should make reference to the Joe Paterno final years at PSU and ask for a huge payout to step away.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:04 AM
what do you normally read? i’ve been recommending Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, Michael Connely’s Harry Bosch series for a long time now. just started on the Vince Flynn Mitch Rapp series and i’m liking it so far. nice light, entertaining reading.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:06 AM
I don’t get this. Does it matter where the quality comes from? Quality is quality whether it’s on channel 11 or 211.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Favorite short story? Go.
/President Cleveland, Where Are You?” by Robert Cormier
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Clay I need some book recommendations since we seem to have similar tastes. I am begrudgingly reading the second Wheel of Time book right now.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:07 AM
If you’re interested in fantasy, and want to read absolute trash, I can’t recommend the Deathstalker series enough. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds. It’s like a trashy Fabio book, but for men with beheadings instead of love scenes.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Extremely entertaining reads. Also would recommend the Gabriel Allon books from Daniel Silva.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Is that the same Deathstalker that Deathstalker III: Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell is about? Great mst3k episode.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Spoler alert
Re GOT – it’s hard to top the first book where the lead character is killed (this may be even more true on TV), yet books 2 and 3 may even be better.
I’m still pissed off at the 4 & 5th book as they are 2000 pages of stage-setting.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Coach K ruined Kyrie with that system. Could have easily averaged 30 if he played anywhere else.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:11 AM
You’re doing yourself a disservice by not clicking that link and reading the synopsis of that book.

I DON’T WANT, YOUR LIFE
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:14 AM
I’m looking for a new book as well, but something along the lines of the Bourne series. I just don’t want to get into 1,000 pages of fluff like the GOT stuff.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:14 AM
when you’re talking about the “golden age” of tv I think it matters. how can it be so great when the major networks put out reality tv shows and shitty scripted shows?
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Whole lot of diverse stuff. Fiction and non. I usually like to make the next book I read unlike the previous. Last book I read was about how the brain handles decision-making. Very good read. So I guess something good that’s non-fiction I suppose or a biography.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Hmmm….that could be interesting. Especially with all the fucking idiots in society.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:17 AM
I suggest Berlin Noir. It’s three books, but they’re an awesome read. It’s post WWII detective stuff. Highly entertaining.
Kind of like Vonnegut’s Mother Night combined with Dragon Tattoo level shady Nazi shit.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:19 AM
I’m sure there has to be a book you read that you really liked that I haven’t read yet. All the recommendations I’m getting on Amazon suck. I’ve been permanently type-cast because I read that lady porn series.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Could a major network get the funding or political okay to do a 2011 MASH ala Afghanistan? No way.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:19 AM
when you’re talking about the “golden age” of tv I think it matters. how can it be so great when the major networks put out reality tv shows and shitty scripted shows?
remember when there was the whole Ben Roethlisberger bathroom thing and Coop refused to admit that the genital area was a specific area on the body, and that it could have been anywhere from armpits to kneecaps?
This is similar. Cable television is television. It’s right there in the phrase. It’s the second word.
Your genital area is the area right around your genitals, and cable television is television. Do you know how you can confirm that cable television is television? Go to your house, and see what the device is that you watch it on. No, not your genitals. Television.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:21 AM
My absolute favorite Robert Ludlum book is The Prometheus Deception.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:21 AM
It’s called “How We Decide” by Jonah Leher. It’s not a long read and it is not overly heavy with the science. He gives a bunch of examples from real life and from scientific experiements. Definitely makes you look at the whole process in a different light.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:21 AM
I’m sure there has to be a book you read that you really liked that I haven’t read yet. All the recommendations I’m getting on Amazon suck. I’ve been permanently type-cast because I read that lady porn series.
did you read Water for Elephants? I know it got dramatised into a shitty fucking movie, but it was a really good book. Not fantasy at all though.
And what about those books that became that movie The Golden Compass? My wife loved those books. I never got around to them.
If I had time, I’d probably read Watership Down over again, for the fortieth time.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Have you heard of the Cryptonomicon?
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I have not, but it sounds interesting. I’m sold on the name alone really.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Just finished The Deep Blue Good-by. That was a good one. I’m not really big into serials, but MacDonald comes well-recommended by other authors, so I gave it a shot.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:26 AM
The Dan Brown books are fun reads.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:27 AM
Yes.
Yes.
SEE! I knew there was a book you read that I haven’t read. This one is about rabbits though?
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:27 AM
I don’t know what opinion you have of my reading opinions. But that series, called “His Dark Materials” by Phillip Pullman are among my favorite that I have ever read.
.
My uncle said the same thing. Fantastic book turned into a horrible movie.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:29 AM
so it’s like congo?
/never saw the movie
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Perhaps. Congo the book was incredible. The movie is one of those awesomely bad movies that is so bad it is fun to watch and quote.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM
SEE! I knew there was a book you read that I haven’t read. This one is about rabbits though?
it’s on nearly every top 100 list for 20th century fiction. really good. about anthropomorphized rabbits
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Congo was when I realized that just because I liked a book didn’t mean I would like the movie. Horrible.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Good read – read that a while back – thanks for the reminder.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:31 AM
My uncle said the same thing.
right before he did those things to you? Show me on this doll.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:32 AM
so i take it im not missing out on seeing congo the movie…nice.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Holy shit I forgot that Bruce Campbell and Joe Don Baker were in Congo. Tim Curry too as the bad guy! HOW WAS THAT NOT THE BEST MOVIE EVER
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:33 AM
theres no way cleet didn’t like Congo the movie, since it had Tim Curry being his regular awful self
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:34 AM
All I remember about the movie is a really bad effect on the diamond lasers and a hot air balloon scene as bad as the CGI Air Force One in Get Off My Plane!, The Movie.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Without looking up any pictures, I want to say that Curry wearing khaki explorer shirts and neckerchiefs featured heavily in his character.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Laura Linney.

Most Michael Crichton books turned movies, except the first Jurassic Park, are disappointments.
eaters of the dead. so great. ive seen it 20 times
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:37 AM
They are. I personally liked Angels and Demons better than The DaVinci Code. Both were great for what they were, though, which is entertaining fiction mixed with historical fact.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:38 AM
It’s all excused because he wrote and directed West World, one of the coolest movies ever made.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:38 AM
the 2nd jurassic park book was pretty sweet…shame the movie was a smushsmortion.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:40 AM
I like quoting his character…who was not even in the book.
Stop eating my sesame cake!
Crichton was on the writing team for the first Jurassic Park and none of the other movies. Made a big difference.

Cleet – was just about to quote “Stop eating my sesame cakes!”
I’m also a bigger fan of Angels & Demons than DaVinci Code or his most recent one.
Jurassic Park – in the Speilberg top 5 or not?
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:47 AM
speaking of brain and human nature books…I just finished Blank Slate. I thought it was really good only qualm with is that it possibly spends too much time dismantling positions that you didn’t think anyone held in the first place but i guess some people believe gender is 100% a social construct and intelligence is 0% inheritable.

You just reminded me of the Dana Carvey movie “Clean Slate” and can go right to hell for that.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:51 AM

JP was a mind-blowing movie at the time it came out. It doesn’t hold up as well today, but the book is timeless. I could pick that thing up today and tear through it.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:54 AM
I agree more with speancer’s list. Close Encounters didn’t do too much for me.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:57 AM
One of my favorite Spielberg facts is that he wasn’t going to direct Schindler’s List. It was a Scorcese project. Spielberg was going to direct Cape Fear but thought it was too violent so they traded projects.
Imagine if Scorcese had directed that movie. Clearly “Gimme Shelter” would have played when Fiennes was capping Jews from the balcony.

i can only imagine the trailing, uncut shot of them touring the concentration camp like the restaurant scene in goodfellas.
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:59 AM
tho i would like to have seen this just for the moment where everyone says “HOW THE FUCK IS JOE PESCI IN THE GESTAPO?”
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Where the fuck is Amistad?
/GIVE US, US FREE!
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:02 AM
This would probably be my list as well, however I would want to put Catch me if You Can, Minority Report and Munich somewhere in the top 10.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Amistad is outstanding. One of Hopkins’s best roles, especially when he’s sleeping in the proceedings.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:03 AM
SPR, Catch Me if You Can, Last Crusade, Raiders, Munich
The scene where Upham lets Mellish die is one of the most misunderstaood and greatest war scenes ever filmed.

Do the Evolution is a fantastic track from Yield (but not as good as In Hiding) Great distorted riff, Im a thief, Im a liar, theres my church, I sing in the choir.
scripty i’m a big fan of Yield
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:06 AM
I agree. If the lead was anyone besides McConaughey, it would probably rank higher.
I don’t even think he did that badly of a job, but someone like Damon would have taken it up a notch.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Tim Curry being his regular awful self
Lake Placid….fine ass bridget fonda and the beginning of the foul-mouthed mascot betty white career reanimation
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:08 AM

April 2nd, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Yield might be #2 for me now, behind Ten.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:10 AM
It was platt.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:16 AM

they’re so different. i guess the true test is, if you could only have one, which do you pick? i gotta go yield for the tunefulness. i really dig melodies. ten was more noisy
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:22 AM
i feel this way about pink floyd…id take animals over any of their other albums.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Similar to how I feel about Radiohead – I’ll take Amnesiac over the others.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:31 AM
amnesiac is a damn good album.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:37 AM
I’d go w/ Ten b/c Alive is my favorite song of all time, and I really dig on some of the lesser tunes like Oceans, Deep, Release, Garden, etc.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:39 AM
amnesiac is a damn good album.
found most of their ‘artsy’ releases at the library, so got them for free and really enjoy them

my only ink is the spread eagle wild hair stick figure with Alive between his feet. i’d explain back in the day that if you get a tat better make sure you’ll feel good about it when you are 50 as well as when you got it in your 20s. In my will I’ll stipulate that the Alive should be crossed out by the undertaker. until then, we’re good

Man I hate when I misplace a $200 million ticket.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:47 AM
some here will appreciate the fact that the name of the Illinois town with a store that sold a winning MM ticket is Red Bud
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:58 AM
I believe Spencer has a weekend cabin there.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:59 AM
Seconded. I wore out my copy of that album when it came out.
“Ha-ha, charade you are.”
