John Calipari Gets His Ring and the Kentucky Wildcats are 2012 National Champions
Kentucky looked like the dominant team they had been all tournament. Kansas looked like the slow-starting resilient team they were all tournament. In the end, it was Kentucky’s early brilliance holding sway over the Jayhawks’ toughness.
Anthony Davis was only 1 for 10 from the field, yet still had a monster performance. He stuffed the stat sheet 15 rebounds, 6 blocks, 5 assists, and 3 steals to go with 6 points, and made key play after key play, whether it was a steal from Thomas Robinson following a rebound, or a late run out that forced a travel from Elijah Johnson when a three pointer could have made it a three point game in the final minute.
Kentucky led by double digits for most of the game, for over 23 minutes of game action between the 7:17 mark of the first half and the 4:17 mark of the second half. The outcome seemed like a certainty. Kansas then made a late last gap surge that put the outcome in a little bit of doubt, and managed to cut it to a 5 point game with a minute and a half left, and almost forced a turnover before the loose ball went to Kentucky, and Anthony Davis got fouled.
Kentucky was the best team in 2012, and they saved their best for the tournament. Congratulations, Big Blue Nation, 2012 National Champs.

Congrats though on win number 2,090… we are close behind and Self will stay on the hunt.

Is it me or was that Johnson travel a bad call in the final minute? I remember the replay showing him let go of the ball before he came back down, but I can’t remember if he had dribbled before going up for the shot.

What an annoyingly frustrating team to take and drop the points. Every game they are rolling along, on their way to an easy cover. Then suddenly they shutdown the offense, just start dribbling out the shot clock, with no apparent plan until they are relegated to a long 3 or some forced jumper. Instead of covering easily and allowing us to enjoy the end, we have to sweat thru foul shots and one last Kansas 3pt shot. Damn them!!!

This headline will be referred in 2015 when Calipari loses his ring as its announced that Yahoo finds evidence of recruiting violations for the 2011-2012 team. Calipari feigns ignorance as he moved from Kentucky to restore UCLA.

As a Kansas fan, hats of to Kentucky. They were the best team and it shows. I’ll be interested to see how they do next year when their top 6 players are in the NBA.
Calipari is still an a-hole.
Kansas had a great year. Back in October, I said I’d be happy getting to the Sweet 16 with the team we had. Never in my wildest dreams did I think they’d play for the title. I am hoping Robinson comes back but I doubt it. Can we now say Bill Self is one of the elite coaches in college hoops.
