Matt Bush’s DUI Hit & Run Victim is in a Medically-Induced Coma
Last week, Tampa Bay Rays’ pitcher Matt Bush was involved in a DUI hit and run with a motorcyclist. The man on the motorcycle, 72-year-old Tony Tufano, remains in the hospital in a medically-induced coma. Bush remains in jail facing seven charges – and it could obviously get worse. The fact that the Rays are done with Bush and he may never get another chance at the majors is the least of his worries. Bush was driving the Dodge Durango of Rays minor-leaguer Brandon Guyer the night of the accident.

This has a feel good story of the year vibe to it if he gets back to the majors.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
The article I read said he ran over his head after he already hit him. Though KC is right — feel good potential written all over it.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts, CANYONERO!
March 27th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
I do believe, and feel free to doublecheck my math on this one, feel good stories are only the result of being drafted into the NFL. Therefore, Matt Bush is a sign of baseball’s eroding influence on American culture
March 27th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
I’m sure he asked him very nicely to move out of the way. When the guy doesn’t respond, what are you supposed to do?
March 27th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
Totally made the feel good story joke in the first post. Good to know we are all on the same page here.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
The article I read said he ran over his head after he already hit him. Grizz
I actually clicked on one of the links. This guy sounds like a total class act. East to root for.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
Sigh.

It was his friend’s car, you can’t expect him to know the turn radius off the top of his head (pun!).
March 27th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
Even though I hate them, I really hope I am healthy enough to ride a motorcycle when I am 72
March 27th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
I’m almost positive that there was a feel good story about a basketball player (to root for) who killed someone.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Are we sure the motorcycle wasn’t posing a danger to the Durango? This looks a pretty open-and-shut Stand Your Ground case to me

sounds like the doctors caused the coma, not bush. if the coma don’t fit, you must acquit.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
lol
March 27th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
great! a horrible lawsuit in the making.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
Don’t worry, even if you’re not healthy, they have motorcycles for you.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
Worst MLB preview ever.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Seriously.
Loved the Zombieland quote.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
If the Rays had a fanbase they would have been up in arms about Matt Bush being invited into the community when he got signed
March 27th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Matt Bush has fucked up about 100 times. This will not only cost him his baseball career, but probably part of his life. What a bad human being.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:45 PM
No worries, Matt! Just become a christian and go to rehab and people will completely forget you were scumbag!
Love,
Josh Hamilton
March 27th, 2012 at 1:45 PM
Anyone got this 72 year old’s Twitter handle? I want to get both sides to this story.
/PurdueMatt
March 27th, 2012 at 1:45 PM
Blame his Bush’s dad for introducing him to the game of baseball at the age of 4.
Frankly, if we dig deep enough, I bet we could end up pinning this on OJ.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
Sounds like a solid Florida thought process
March 27th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
they guy was wearing a hoodie. Bush was justified.

A head in the hand is worth two under Bush’s tire, or something.

Seems immature, and has consistently made poor choices.
Just

March 27th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
A 72 year old on a motorcycle clearly has a death wish anyways. Good work Matt.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
I assume Guyer will be charged with the FL version of the bullshit charge against Glen Rice Jr.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Fuck this clown.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:49 PM
friends say Bush didn’t target this guy b/c of his age, citing that Bush has grandparents that are old.

witnesses say the motorcyclist was the instigator and bush just ran him over to defend himself.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
I will reserve the rite to feel bad about this victim until someone posts disparaging articles about him from his home town and his twitter handle
March 27th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
I believe it’s actually the reason that the NBA has passed MLB as the second-most popular sport.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:52 PM
Ha!

To think who the Padres could’ve had in that 2004 draft, but chose the local HS kid because of the hometown discount….
I’m glad my Tigers didn’t fuck up at No. 2.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:54 PM
I believe it’s actually the reason that the NBA has passed MLB as the second-most popular sport.
Have you seen the ratings for spring training games? They’re awful. Why would anybody watch a sport with such terrible ratings?

The campy filming, really hot girls, and ridiculous puns are worth 30 minutes of your time if there is nothing else on.

it’s the new 52! get a can-am
March 27th, 2012 at 1:55 PM
golf’s ratings this season are above both MLB and NBA’s regular season averages…just saying.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:56 PM
Don’t be an idiot… people aren’t watching because the ratings are low.
March 27th, 2012 at 1:56 PM
It would make a great heist movie.

Damnit, I think my joke was redundant. Sorry, Stark,
March 27th, 2012 at 1:58 PM
NCAA Tournament ratings are down, I can only assume a post about that will be filled with excuses as opposed to assumptions about the sport dying

Will actually be filled with a 64-team bowl game proposal to fix the sport and renew interest in the games.
March 27th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
yea, but they were a 4.8 last week which is only up 42% over last year’s…that’s still as good or better than the averages for the MLB weekend games on fox and espn and the NBA regular season.

Well, it already has Josh Hamilton feeling better about himself.
March 27th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
making him one of the few No. 1 picks not to play in the majors. He would join Steve Chilcott, the No. 1 pick in 1966 by the Mets, who was taken one spot ahead of Reggie Jackson, but never made it past Triple-AI love it when Maets-bashing occurs even in a non-Mets story.

God bless all of you. The gamut of jokes runs through anything anyone could ever want. Feel good story, brain matter, Zombieland, Spencer and some golf. Just well done.

i looked it up, and maybe not that many made it to the majors, but there haven’t been that manay ‘stars’ of the ones that made it, and only a few superstars. since 1965? bad scouting/life is crazy combo
March 27th, 2012 at 2:26 PM
I get busy at work, and then I have to hurry to catch up. Goddamn job getting in the way of TBL commenting fun.
Saw it again this weekend.
“So, any regrets?”
“Garfield, maybe.”

I never wonder. I know I kill off threads with lame comments. I’m like the double-tap rule of TBL threads.

I didn’t think it was too bad when I looked at it last week. Not that many super-duper stars but a lot of really good players mixed in with Ken Griffey, A-Rod, Strawberry, Chipper. Only a few out and out disasters
March 27th, 2012 at 3:08 PM
Was David Clyde a No. 1 overall?
March 28th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
i am blown away at why people are making a joke of this. it’s really funny when someone has to be placed into a coma because of some immature, irresponsible, and ignorant dumbass. You people make this seem like it’s just another story…. “feel good story of the year…” really?? why should he get another shot? this is strike 3 for him. got in trouble after he was drafted, touble in 2008, now this? he should absolutely be in jail for a long time without the remote chance of baseball every again. it’s a privledge not a requirement. his incompetence and disregard to social responsibility 100% qualifies him to be removed from baseball completely. but keep laughing about it people. because next time when it’s your family member that was put into the medically induced coma for some dumb fuck’s irresponisbility and poor judgement, you’re gonna want them laughing at the situation huh?
