Tim Tebow Press Conference Video: Tebow Dances Around the Topic of Picking the Jets Over the Jaguars
Yet another reason why Tebow always comes out victorious against the media: Today’s masterful 32-minute performance against the vaunted New York media. If it were a tennis match, it was a 6-0, 6-1, 6-0 beatdown. This was a Roy Halladay 2-hit gem.
Right from the outset, the media came at him: Everyone wants to know whether Tim Tebow picked the Jets over his hometown Jaguars, or whether the Broncos decided where to deal him. How’d Tebow handle it?
Tebow played it perfectly – Denver asked him his thoughts, he said he liked the Jets … and Jacksonville, too! Ultimately, it was their decision where he went. And no matter what John Elway says – it was Tim’s choice! – Tebow is factually correct: Denver owned his rights and made the trade. Tim Tebow did not “pick” the Jets over Jacksonville. The media didn’t bother follow-up with any questions. The door was ajar on this topic coming into the presser, and Tebow shut it immediately.
I’ll spare you videos of Tebow’s religious banter, though his answers to those questions were perfect.

This is pathetic, McIntyre.
March 26th, 2012 at 12:57 PM
Lost 4 out of the last 5 games he’s played.
March 26th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
He could only carry that defense so far.

Isn’t there better technology available than recording a television broadcast with your iphone?

Since when do H-backs have press conferences in which bloggers and sportswriters make asses of themselves blowing them?

I actually find tebow to be fairly unintelligent and boring. He is scared to tell the truth because he would rather not offend people. The aw, shucks stuff is ridiculous. I don’t totally blame him because he has been boosted up and surrounded by false praise his entire college and professional career.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:00 PM
there’s right and wrong? if that’s true, what’s the point of even having these sessions that don’t feature anything other than boilerplate answers to boilerplate questions?
March 26th, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Is that the sound of something being sharpened?
March 26th, 2012 at 1:02 PM
Victorious against the media? Really? Seems to me a fair chunk of the media gives Timmy way more affection than Taylor Swift ever did.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:02 PM
About as overrated as New York teams…I like how to hear about them you’d think the media there has sent many an athlete to cut themselves
March 26th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Is that the sound of something being sharpened?
sadly, it isn’t Jason McIntyre’s intellect
March 26th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Tim Tebow makes Belichick look interesting
March 26th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Gotta admit, it’s rare when a backup QB gets his own presser. Even rarer when that presser becomes news.
It’s OK to take a breather from the National Football League. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, blah blah blah.

Except for the end of the 2012 season….proved he was a fraud
Oh, and the 2009 SEC Championship Game….choked

Hammer doesn’t need sharpening.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:04 PM
and that this whole media interview charade has become nothing more than an exercise in journalists creating bullshit to rationalize their existence. we know the questions going in…when was the last time you heard an interview where an answer an athlete gave was genuinely surprising and insightful? there’s no reason for these things anymore.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Tebow what is your penis gashing method are you Ecraseur style or Tribal? Do you endorse the GOMCO Clamp or Mogen Clamp? Why can’t you throw a 5 step slant within 10 yards of your open WR?
March 26th, 2012 at 1:05 PM
I blame the media, the Tebow (read: not actually football) fans, and SEC sycophants
March 26th, 2012 at 1:05 PM

i guess you really are black
March 26th, 2012 at 1:07 PM
Completely agree, which is why I love the Belichick approach. “You’re wasting my time, so I’m going to waste your time.”

It surprises me that people are surprised that there is a good amount of media coverage for this whole thing. Did you miss the last season, he’s not just a backup QB.
Way more tired of the recent barge of people hating on Tebow, than of the Tebowmania from last year. Enough already people.

His pressers are true must-see TV. He is one of the funniest, snarkiest interviewees I’ve ever seen.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:09 PM
exactly.
plus, athletes are so worried about their sponsorships that they’re not willing to be total assholes or have fun with it. it must be a horrible existence if you’re involved with these things.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:09 PM
Haha this just reads funny because TBL has no clue what actually happened. I doubt he’d be able to pull together the facts given what we’ve seen of his cold calling ability.

I actually really like how the Giants are handling all this:
March 26th, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Woody Johnson threw a little tantrum after he heard that apparently. The New York football Jets are very lucky that the New York baseball Mets are still around. Oh, and the Knicks.

I just dont understand how you make him do a press conference but dont have any owner, coach, or whatever there to introduce him. So weird.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:13 PM
Haha this just reads funny because TBL has no clue what actually happened.
so, like normal?
March 26th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
Did you miss the last season, he’s not just a backup QB.
I live in COLO – of course I didn’t miss last season. I was commenting on how a few weeks ago, Sanchez got a hefty contract extension that all but screamed “this is our guy”.
Soon after, the whole Manning/Tebow brouhaha, followed by the Tebow trade. I realize from a cultural perspective, Tebow is more than just a football player, let alone backup QB. But, on the Jets’ roster, I suspect he is listed as number two today. Once the season starts, blah blah blah.
My snark was aimed more towards how NFL off-season stuff gets reported in such a breathless fashion. We all need to breathe a bit.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
with no class whatsoever. Typical Giants.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
I find them to cringeworthy to watch. I feel bad for the writers that have to cover them. Even the decent questions he just blows off.

March 26th, 2012 at 1:17 PM
Funny how the Giants “own this town” and are the “big brothers” and just won another Super Bowl yet their owners, players and fans are always so quick to offer commentary on the “irrelevant Jets”.
I guess they don’t truly believe what they say…
March 26th, 2012 at 1:18 PM
If it were a tennis match, it was a 6-0, 6-1, 6-0 beatdown.
if tim tebow were a tennis player, he’d want to chop an inch off the top of the net. And he’d miss his serve, a lot.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
I guess they don’t truly believe what they say…
when my 3 year old points out that the baby smells poopy, is he secretly obsessed with the baby, or does the baby smell poopy?

My snark was aimed more towards how NFL off-season stuff gets reported in such a breathless fashion.
The NFL learned the lessons of the WWE: don’t focus on the matches. Build a feud that crescendos at the mach. That’s what the NFL is now: it’s soap operas that build towards the games.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:23 PM
Most of the time it isn’t though. Sometimes he is in a decent mood and will engage but overwhelmingly he just wants to get the heck out of there and only gives a sentence long answer at best.

I also find “mocking” and “commentary” to not really be synonymous.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:24 PM
WTF is Engager going to do instead of his job now that he’s banned here? I haven’t seem MS in a while either, is he banned?
March 26th, 2012 at 1:25 PM
The NBA still has the NFL beat in this regard, by a wide margin.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:25 PM
I think his wedding was this past weekend, so he’s probably on honeymoon. And hopefully getting laid…

His weekly segments on the local station (don’t remember if it’s Fox, NECN, or Comcast) are great. I usually catch a couple during the season, and he breaks down film on the upcoming opponent. It’s simple fascinating getting a glimpse of how he sees things.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:26 PM
I cant believe this is a post. Tim Tebow, a man who couldn’t say something interesting or controversial if God Himself gave him the words, gets a praise post because of some non-answers at an irrelevant press conference.

His wife is going to be walking like a penguin for at least the next 6 weeks is my guess.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Yeah, I watch those on the Patriots app. Always great stuff.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
To me they’re a necessary “time waster”. Canned response or not, a writer can’t ethically speculate on Tebow’s feelings on the Jaguars without actually asking Tebow how he feels about them in the first place.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
Exactly my point. If one is secure enough with one’s accomplishments and standing, there’s no reason to mock or criticize others.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:30 PM
The NBA still has the NFL beat in this regard, by a wide margin.
But the NBA is centered around 10-12 teams whereas the NFL gives equal footing to every one of their 32 teams.
I cant believe this is a post. Tim Tebow, a man who couldn’t say something interesting or controversial if God Himself gave him the words, gets a praise post because of some non-answers at an irrelevant press conference.

March 26th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
I’m surprised the engager wasn’t booted earlier. Dude bitched about everything around here. I wouldn’t have put up with his shit much longer anyway. I enjoyed his commentary, but you guys are acting as it wasn’t well deserved. It is a good start to the week when the hammer comes down though.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
You realize you are criticizing others with your first post right? But if you’re a Jets fan, there’s certainly no reason for you to be happy with your accomplishments or standing so I guess it makes sense.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
“I enjoyed his commentary, but you guys are acting as it wasn’t well deserved.”
I didn’t really care for his work on here, but I agree that he probably asked for it over the past few weeks, starting at least as early as the Braun posts.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Asking for it how? By pointing out this website’s faults? I think that’s the issue most of us have with his banning.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
I find them to cringeworthy to watch. I feel bad for the writers that have to cover them. Even the decent questions he just blows off.
But, there are so few decent questions…
That’s what the NFL is now: it’s soap operas that build towards the games.
If it works for the masses, then so be it. Personally, I find it frustrating. To me, the games are always richer and more nuanced than the mere soap opera elements.
But, I could be wrong…
March 26th, 2012 at 1:45 PM
the engager
i’m so rusty. i don’t have the first clue who this is.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Don’t poke the (St.) bear. I have issues with some of the things that get posted on this site, but you can’t endlessly criticize the owner and his content and then act surprised when you’re banned. Not referring to you in any way. It’s the royal you.
With some of the shit I see on here, I can’t believe some of you haven’t been run a long time ago.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Uh, yeah I realize that, although I was also just responding to how the Giants are “handling all of this well”, as if “all of this” is anything at this point.
The realization that needs to be made is that criticism flows in both directions, always has, and seemingly always will, regardless of what the Super Bowl scoreboard reads.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:49 PM

March 26th, 2012 at 1:57 PM
Tebow was always big in the SEC, but he was never like this. Just goes to show how big the NFL is. Dude won two titles and a Heisman, but it was his OT win against PITT the week before getting raped by NE that pushed him into the stratosphere.
March 26th, 2012 at 1:58 PM
I think the faces John Elway made when the Broncos were successful had equal part in his rise to the top.
March 26th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
Maybe, but the point remains. The NFL is so much bigger than anything else. The backup QB who finished the season 1-4 just had an introductory presser with more than 150 media members all while ESPN carried it live. That’s absurd.
