Scott Reid of the Orange County Register and Scott Mansch of the Great Falls Tribune Didn’t Vote Anthony Davis 1st Team All-American
The Associated Press All-American basketball teams were revealed today, and even though the silly AP doesn’t make up a traditional team of two guards, two forwards and a center, it’s difficult to find any major flaws with these selections:
Thomas Robinson, Kansas
Jared Sullinger, Ohio State
Draymond Green, Michigan State
Anthony Davis, Kentucky
Doug McDermott, Creighton
McDermott was terrific for the Blue Jays (23 ppg), but I wouldn’t have had any beef if Isaiah Canaan of Murray State or Kendall Marshall of UNC had made the 1st team over him.
The real story here is that Anthony Davis – perhaps the best freshman big-man in college basketball since Patrick Ewing – was not a unanimous 1st team pick. Two writers left him off the first team.
That’s as bad as it gets, and thanks to Jeff Goodman, we know who the writers are: Scott Reid of the OC Register and Scott Mansch of the Great Falls Tribune. What an embarrassment, fellas. The Kentucky fans – some of the most aggressive on the web – are going to make your lives hell for a couple days.

To be fair, there’s no D1 basketball in southern California. Don’t know what the Montana guy’s excuse is.

Writers who vote for Awards consistenly prove they shouldn’t be voting for awards

“Well I’m not really ready for a relationship Lois, but thank you for asking. Hey, maybe I’ll give you a call sometime…your number still 911? All righty then.”

Writes who vote for Awards consistently prove they will do anything just to get their name on a post of a major sports blog. Bunch of assholes.

this guy is known for breaking Sandusky type stories in Southern California, not sure how he rates a vote

I’m happy there isn’t much Euro/Int’l hype for this year’s draft, just “home-grown” ‘Merican talent.

When a sportswriter such as these two make such glaring errors, is it appropriate for them to acknowledge it…or just ignore it and move on?

Still not as bad as George King leaving Pedro off the MVP ballot

Im glad kentucky fans take a break from banging their cousins to send hate mail to people who dare besmirch their stupid fucking fantasy world

It’s really hard to get outraged by this type of stuff. I mean, there are going to be baseball writers who don’t vote for Bonds in the HOF. In general, we probably worry too much about sportswriters.

Zeller should have made it over Sullinger.
March 26th, 2012 at 7:37 PM
I think he’s probably the best freshman big-man in college basketball since Greg Oden.
March 26th, 2012 at 7:39 PM
Davis > Oden. Oden didn’t even come close to having the skills on offense that Davis has.

It’s really pathetic when you consider who is allowed to vote in the AP. In the last poll Scott Reid voted North Carolina #1. An article written by Scott Mansch about a local wrestler was a 58 line 35 paragraph piece that began “(Name) came into this world with many attributes: Speed, quickness, strength, intelligence.” I wish I had those when I was born. I would have run out of the hospital.

A.P. Born and bred Kentuckian here. Eastern Kentuckian too, so that makes it even better, right? Just wanted to let you know that I won’t be banging any of my cousins anytime soon, won’t be contacting either of these two gentlemen (even though we can probably both agree they are ass hats for not voting Davis as one of the 5 best players in the country this year) and I live in a real world. We have our nuts and loons, as most fan bases do, but there are some of us out here that are pretty normal and level headed. Anyway, nice to meet you.

And by ‘anytime soon’ I mean… At all. Don’t want to be misunderstood. Thanks for understanding.
March 26th, 2012 at 9:40 PM
Oh all my generalizatins are pure sarcasm and just to be an ass. Nothing really meant by it.

Poor ATL Badger. So hard-up to come back here and yell at me, he changed his handle to “Hackintyres” … nice try, big guy.
But your IP address is blocked. You’ll be back, eventually. Just settle down, a time out will do you some good. Come back less angry.
March 26th, 2012 at 11:06 PM
Reid and Mansch probably wear red sweater vests.

And come back with pictures of your hot, crazy sister.

I didn’t know about this. TBL, maybe you could work out a trade?

Fans will definitely berate these two guys. Hopefully they wont go full Thamel and say they wish their kids get cancer.
March 27th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
No worries AP. Just wanted you to know that there are some of us out here who are ‘normal’. And Shatner, I agree. I hate it that our fan base does dumb shit like that and gives the rest of us a bad name. Do I think guys like Thamel and Forde are biased against Kentucky and Cal? Absolutley. But I still think they’re great writers and I’d never threaten them or wish ill will upon them or their families. I love Kentucky fans and their passion – even the uneducated ones. I hate their stupidity and self-rightousness.

I’d be interested and seeing if these guys had Davis on their ballots at all. If they had him as a 2nd or 3rd teamer, they’re incriminating themselves in that they shouldn’t vote if they think 5 guys or 10 guys are better than AD. If they don’t have him on their ballot at all, its nothing against Davis and everything against John Calipari and the University of Kentucky. Either way, its poppycock.
