Kentucky is Going to the Final Four. To Play Rival Louisville. This Should Be Fun.
Baylor grabbed an early 10-5 lead, then Kentucky woke up, went on a 16-0 run, and the game was over. Baylor never got within single digits and lost, 82-70. Kentucky will play in-state rival Louisville in the Final Four next Saturday evening.
Other than this douchy Baylor fan dancing and the brief scare when superstar Anthony Davis went down clutching his knee, what is there to say?
Kentucky rolled just the way you’d expect it to – a monster showing from the relentless Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (19 points, 17 in the first half), and double-doubles from Davis (18-10) and Terrence Jones (12-10). This wasn’t the flawless performance they pulled off against Indiana, though. UK only made 30-of-44 free throws.
Perry Jones, outside of a 90-second spurt in the second half, was a disappointment yet again for Baylor: 6-of-14, 17 points, eight rebounds. He was a massive non-factor. You’d think he’d go to the NBA, but does it make sense to return to school and try to … I don’t know, start to play angry, or at least with intensity?
His teammate Quincy Acy, who probably will get drafted in the 2nd round, played hard and scored 22 points. Brady Heslip, the gunner who made nine 3-pointers against Colorado, scored four points and didn’t make a triple until the final five minutes (1-of-2).
Various gambling types are posting a line for the Louisville-Kentucky game and I’ve seen anywhere from 7-10. I’d expect that to go up this week as ESPN debates whether or not Kentucky is one of the greatest college basketball teams in the last 30 years. I like Louisville as an underdog, but I can’t imagine the Cardinals winning the game.
