Michael Bush Signs With the Chicago Bears: 4 years, $14 million
Michael Bush has signed a contract with the Chicago Bears, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. The deal is for four years, with $7 million guaranteed and total potential value of $14 million.
The Bears are obviously trying to upgrade the offense in a “win now” move, adding this to the Brandon Marshall trade from last week. This also signifies a couple of other things.
The market for Bush wasn’t what he would have liked. He’s never been the full-time starter, and will be 28. Last year, his yards per carry dropped to 3.8 as he had the most carries of his career with McFadden injured (256). The chance to be the lead guy never materialized.
Also, this likely means more insurance against Forte, who has been franchised, and likely the end of Marion Barber III, who was just signed last year. It also means that the Bears will not need to draft a running back early in the draft, as was projected in our recent mock draft, this year to create leverage with Forte. Bush is capable of carrying the ball 200+ times for the next two seasons. While it may impact the Forte negotiations, it also probably saves him some wear and tear late in games, especially coming off last year’s injury.

Good signing by the Bears. But I still hate them.
March 22nd, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Great signing. Wanted the Lions to perhaps sign this guy. LeShore and Best better perform this year…..
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Yeah, the Packers are still favorites in this division.
/moving on
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Can he play QB when Cutler suffers the inevitable injury?
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Marion Barber 2.0
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:02 PM
Yep. I read they’re considering re-signing Kevin Smith. Nothing special, but LaMichael James visited Allen Park yesterday.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:02 PM
They signed Jason Campbell for that.
/expect Rickey Dudley to be in camp
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Who’s the Raiders backup RB now, that Taiwan Jones dude?
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Marion Barber 2.0
Tim Tebow’s best friend? I blame him for adding the the Tebowmania hysteria that gripped the nation.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Babar, i assume campbell will get hurt too. That usually happens
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Bravo Lisk for the way you phrased it. This method of reporting NFL contracts needs to be encouraged.
Regarding the contract. Seems like a lot of guaranteed money for an perpetually nicked up RB whose ypc declines as he gets more carries. Especially in a buyers market.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Why wouldn’t Jahvid Best just retire before ending up with the permanent brown brain?
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Correct.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Read that as well. Maybe if he slips to the 3rd round. Gotta pick back 7 defense in the first 2 rounds.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Solid signing. Now if they can only do something about their offensive line.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:07 PM
Bears doin work.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:08 PM
Bush is a good blocker, and the Bears will need.
/With their first pick the Bears take Vizante Burfict, LB ASU
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:10 PM
or Vontaze
/me dumb
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Good GOD.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Great signing. However, the Bears still need an O-line unless Chris Williams or Gabe Carimi come back strong(yeah, not gonna happen) and linebackers and safeties. If Knox comes back and is 100% it will be nice seeing the WR corps having everyone playing their proper position X Marshall Y Knox Z Hester..Hester and Knox are interchangeable. If Kellen Davis is as good as people are saying he is capable of being he should have a monster year
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:15 PM
Actually, he’s terrible. It’s his biggest weakness.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:15 PM
That dude can easily be had in the 3rd-4th round now. His draft stock has crashed badly.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:16 PM
I really don’t think Burfict gets drafted.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:18 PM
good pass catcher. was a nice mid-season fantasy pickup last season
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:18 PM
Cardinals, 7th round.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Good stuff with how he’s on the last TBL mock…that one photo of him pointing at Matt Barkley really made an impression
30. Ravens – Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona St. Had this in the last mock, and I’ll very likely stick with it the rest of the way.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:19 PM
That dude can easily be had in the 3rd-4th round now. His draft stock has crashed badly.
Having a terrible season, a terrible attitude, and a terrible combine will do that for you.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Lions will be happy to take a late-round flyer on Vontaze.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Who’s the Raiders backup RB now, that Taiwan Jones dude?
Is this the guy that can back-flip out of a pool? That should come in handy
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Daniel Sedin concussed.
Goodbye Vancouver’s shot!
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:22 PM
/pours one out for Marion running out of pounds in the 4th quarter.
what he said.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:24 PM
Duncan Keith – 10 games. Send a message Shanny!

March 22nd, 2012 at 1:26 PM
I’ve never heard that…and this next fact may surprise you about Al Davis’ final draft…
He ran a 4.32 at the combine last year.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:26 PM
One of the NFL kickers with a twitter account tweeted that he put up better #’s and reps at the combine than vontaze did. Forget which one, it was a retweet. Funny though.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:27 PM
Great signing.
No he’s not.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:27 PM

Hope he falls to the Giants. We need a LB.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:28 PM
I can drink a 40 faster than you can run it
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:29 PM
link?
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:29 PM
There was a post here about a year ago (I think. It was pre-draft either last year or the year before) about some little dude named Taiwan doing a back flip out of a pool. I think it’s the same guy
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:29 PM
…. yeah, you’re wrong. SHOCKER!
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:30 PM
link?
It’s from the Clarett article in yesterday’s roundup, people were saying that to Clarett after his 40 at the combine. Brilliant quote.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:30 PM
Amazing that the Canucks doctors have diagnosed this so fast. They also clearly have leading medical technology to determine that he’d be out for “a minimum of two weeks.” Big things happening in Vancouver medicine! Must be that government provided medicine in Canada. Really doing God’s work up there in BC.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:30 PM
My 6. something 40 times calls bullshit..

This reminds me. Has anybody read anything about the link between black mold and a bunch of auto-immune diseases? Apparently it can cause or trigger everything from ALS to porphyria to asthma.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Also, Radulov got faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:33 PM
I got a concussion and it was diagnosed within 2 hours. And I don’t live in Canada. So there’s that.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:34 PM
Daniel Sedin concussed.
Duncan Keith – 10 games. Send a message Shanny!
3 games top, Sedin had it coming.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:34 PM
O/T
Arnie’s Tourney: Woods finishes at -3 (4 birdies, 1 bogey), tied with a handful of players and one off the lead (-4) of another handful of players.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Mine was self-diagnosed after not remembering the previous 6 hours.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:36 PM
I wish. It’ll be 3-5 as they’re doing a phone hearing.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Can’t wait for Alain Vigneault to come out with his standard cry to the press move. Maybe people would listen if fellow bonerholsters Alexandre Burrows or Kevin Bieksa weren’t on his active roster.
But hey, off with Duncan Keith’s head. 50 games! Oh wait! Dandy Sedin already tried that last night! No need!
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:38 PM
I got a concussion and it was diagnosed within 2 hours.
Yeah, I’m not sure why it would take so long to diagnose, either. Especially when it’s obviously the first thing they’re looking for.
Team doctor: You’re experiencing nausea, dizziness, and confusion after being hit in the head? We’d better get you tested for AIDS.
Daniel Sedin Don’t you think it’s a concussion, doc?
Team doctor: It might be but it could be weeks before we know that. In the meantime we’ll run tests for Dengue Fever, staph, cancer, and STDs.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:40 PM
He sure did. That game should be good tonight on NHLN.

nice of them to put a possibly concussed guy on a plane hours after the concussion too
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Has anybody read anything about the link between black mold and a bunch of auto-immune diseases? Apparently it can cause or trigger everything from ALS to porphyria to asthma.
and the meek shall inherit the earf
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:43 PM
It’ll be 3 games. Hopefully Dandy Sedin is fine. Perhaps he won’t take a run at a player who he thinks won’t run him back next time.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:46 PM
They gave Doan 3 games for a similar hit because he was a repeat offender. This is the first offense for Keith. I say 2 games.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:46 PM
Bravo Lisk for the way you phrased it. This method of reporting NFL contracts needs to be encouraged.
I concur wholeheartedly. Bravo, sir.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:52 PM
Benn wasn’t hurt though. Sedin being concussed will impact the suspension. Right or wrong, it will impact it.
March 22nd, 2012 at 1:57 PM
WHoever said Bush can block is an idiot spewing shi t out of his or her mouth just to make themselves feel good about their teams signing. Bush can bowl people over and run straight up the field but blocking or running around end is not for him.
March 22nd, 2012 at 4:40 PM
Absolute bargain for one of the most underrated RBs in the league. I’m stunned by that figure. Forget dispespecting Forte by bringing in another RB to help keep him fresh, Bush should be firing his agent for the disrespect for his talent that contract shows
