No, Bush was a surprisingly light hitting shortstop to begin with, the hope being he might develop a touch more power once he switched to wooden bats, believe it or not. Imagine drafting a guy whose upside could be likened to Rich Aurilia. He was drafted first because the Padres hoped to save $1 million by drafting a local kid.
