Tim Tebow Traded to Jets For a 4th Round Draft Pick [UPDATE: Jets Gave Up 4th & 6th Round Pick for Denver's 7th Round Pick]

Tim Tebow is coming to New York. The Jets just gave up a 4th round pick for Denver QB Tim Tebow according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
Great move, says this Jets fan. I’m thrilled. I was never a fan of the Jets pushing for “competition” to “light a fire” under Mark Sanchez, and I definitely didn’t think scrubs like Henne or Stanton would do the trick. Tim Tebow? A fan favorite who JUST WINS GAMES? Oh yeah. I’m totally on board with this.
Here’s the best part – the Jets can start Tebow out as a situational QB – 3rd and 2 in the red zone, and run that read option. They’re losing their best red zone threat (Plax), and Tebow can be used near the goal line the way he was as a freshman at Florida (more running than passing).
I know, I know – you think Tebow wants to be the starter. And his cult following will be pushing Tebow as the starter on the first Sanchez interception or fumble or poor offensive series. Hey Sanchez – play better.
New York’s going to love Tim Tebow.

i heard yesterday the jets wanted tebow so they could change the perception of the team from malcontent and braggart. no pressure tebow, everyone loves a do-gooder
March 21st, 2012 at 1:02 PM
Why? He took a way worse team than this to the playoffs last year. Makes sense to me.

You know what this reminds me of? The guy at the bar who can’t pick up an 8, so he goes home with 2 4′s.
It’s like they think putting two bad QB’s together will get them a serviceable QB.

March 21st, 2012 at 1:09 PM
The Jets may not even wait until the regular season to complete implode. This team could be in its own ashes by week 3 of the preseason. Jason is right. New York will LOVE the Tim Tebow and the Jets next year. Because they’ll be an endless supply of infighting, failure and controversy.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:09 PM

Francessa is killing the Jets right now. Killing them. Also, it just came out that Tebow wanted to go back to Florida or a team in the south. Wonder how he feels about this.

Seriously, John Elway is a mastermind. Look at where he has gotten the Broncos in 2 years since the McDaniels era to now. How the hell did he get a 4th and a 6th for Tebow? Why do the Jets continue to spend draft picks on QBs? Jets organization is a circus. Tannenbaum and Woody are trolling their fans.

KSK Ryan is going to be glorious!
March 21st, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Francesa is the type of guy that should get clotheslined coming down the lane in a pickup b-ball game.
I don’t mind this move, especially from an intangibles perspective. They’ve made some bad roster moves, but they collapsed last year mostly due to poor character and team chemistry. If nothing else, this is a move in the right direction in that regard.
Football wise, this should solidify a return to ground and pound, which is a necessity, and which seemed to work in year 1 and 2 under Rex. None of this will matter though, unless they upgrade the o-line (RT) and the base pass rush.
Lastly, it keeps all of you Jet haters talking about an 8-8 non playoff team. So we all win…

If Tebow starts more then 5 games this year, Rex will be fired after the season.
Tebow is the greatest fraud to ever play in the NFL.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:13 PM
So the team is getting a RB better than the merely average Shonn Greene?
March 21st, 2012 at 1:13 PM
jesus tittyfucking christ is this incredible.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:13 PM
The image of Tebow and Sanchez short-hopping balls to a bitchy Santonio Holmes while Rex cries into a bucket of fried chicken is one I would pay a lot of money for.

March 21st, 2012 at 1:14 PM
never would I have thought the Bills would be a more stable organization than the Jets.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:14 PM
Why wouldn’t the Jets wait until Tebow gets cut and then sign him?
Afraid they would get out bid by Jax?
Sad.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:14 PM
Well played, sir.
Also, ever since Elway retired he could have run for governor of Colorado and won. After the last couple of days, he could run, win, and declare himself emperor for life.
Swapping out Tim Tebow and a 7th round pick for Peyton Manning, a 4th, a 6th, and a truckload of money? Abso-fucking-lutely.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:15 PM
Barring a run to the playoffs, I think this is a strong possibility regardless of what happens with Tebow.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:15 PM
i’m interested in tebow the football player, how he will be used, and i do think he has great intangibles. just shut him up, and if only the media wouldn’t treat him like an elite player
March 21st, 2012 at 1:15 PM
tebow to safety?
March 21st, 2012 at 1:15 PM
God damn, I go to lunch and walk around the city and miss the meat of this post.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:15 PM
In his first year as a starter he went 8-5 and went to the playoffs with a below-average team that started out 1-4. Pretty sure that’s not a fraud, just a good rookie quarterback. Alot better than many other QB’s did their first year starting.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:16 PM
I can only hope this means the return of more wildcat with Sanchez lining up wide and flinching like a girl again
March 21st, 2012 at 1:17 PM
Don’t worry, this one definitely has legs to it. We haven’t even reached triple digits yet.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:17 PM
Going to be tough for Tebow to catch balls 3 feet over his head if he plays TE.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:18 PM
Bills-Jets and Patriots-Jets are going to be great to watch this year. Cannot wait.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:18 PM
And don’t forget being thrown to the ground shortly thereafter.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
agree to this provided certain conditions are acknowledged.
broncos should’ve traded tebow and some combo of draft picks to pittsburgh for mike wallace. tebow would be a great backup for big ben and he’d be decent in that style of offense.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Do you think Rex had a say in getting Tebow?
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
So all Jacksonville offered Elway was a condo on the northside of town?
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
this move reeks of desperation.
/obligatory
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
That’s how I see it, yes. Greene hasn’t shown that he’s any more than the lead back in a committee system. I see Tebow as a ballcarrier, and a good one at that. If they expect more than throwing out of heavy sets, wildcat formations, etc. then this won’t work at all.
I want to watch 13-10, run oriented, shortened gamed, defensive slugfests because that’s the only way the Jets can make a run. Last year they though they could sling it all over the joint with a weaker defense- how’d that turn out?
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Francesa might hate the Jets more then anyone, but he is spot on with everything that he’s been saying today. Total PR move to sell seats and try to get the back pages from there big brother the Giants. Denver only needed to sign Manning so that the fans wouldn’t riot over getting rid of Tebow and TBL thinks Sanchez has a chance to make it this season?
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Should have sent….a poet.
My god what a perfect storm of ineptitude. The most controversial player in the NFL is now a part of the most dysfunctional team in the NFL. Sanchez fumbled his car keys just thinking about this. My god I cannot wait for this meltdown.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
God bless the NFL
March 21st, 2012 at 1:20 PM
at least the Jets got back a 7th round pick with Tebow, so they can draft a new butt buddy for Sanchez.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:20 PM
I can’t imagine Tebow minds the move. His salary off the field is going to be absurd.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:20 PM

March 21st, 2012 at 1:20 PM
if the jets cared about winning games i’d say yes, but time and time again they’ve really only proven they like to be relevant with big names and splashy moves. as long as they are in the headlines, Rex is fine. same with Tannenbaum
March 21st, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Alot better than many other QB’s did their first year starting.
And instill such confidence with his great season, Denver could not wait to get him out of town.

March 21st, 2012 at 1:21 PM

March 21st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
He wasn’t a rookie.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Too bad the rest of the league, and more importantly the Rules Committee, wants the opposite.
The Jets will put together 10 minute 14 play FG drives then turn around and give up a 2 minute 4 play TDs.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:22 PM

I think the Jets have sold out more than 200 consecutive home games. I don’t think they have a problem selling game tickets.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Tebow=Abe
March 21st, 2012 at 1:23 PM
Say what you want about Tebow; he has one of the most interesting stories in the NFL.
Super religious, controversially drafted in first round, stuck on the bench, gets his shot and inexplicably revitalizes his team, is hated by his Hall of Fame QB boss, goes to the playoffs and beats a reigning Super Bowl team, is immediately replaced by a Hall of Fame QB, gets traded to a team coached by America’s most famous foul-mouthed foot fetishist.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:24 PM
Also true. Although looking at Sanchez, Tebow has to be confident that he’ll be in the mix heavily.
Sanchez must be livid.
Circus.
Endless hilarity.

Totally. The Mexigod can’t be happy at all. The moment Sanchez blows a game, or plays poorly for a couple of games in a row, the media/fans will call for Tebow time. Any Jets fan who thinks this is a good thing is delusional.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:27 PM
I’m going to say Rex went to Mikey Tannenbaum and requested another option at QB. Also going to say that this is not the desired outcome Rex Ryan had in mind.

March 21st, 2012 at 1:29 PM
True, but the league becomes more QB driven with each passing year, so if you don’t have an elite QB, you may as well try winning a different way. That seemed to be the blueprint in Rex’s first two years, while last year was a train wreck of the highest order trying to play a style not suited to their personnel.
So while ugly, inept, funny, whatever- at least it APPEARS as though they are trying to play to strengths, when in actuality it may just be a facade and this is 100% tied to tickets and marketing. I’ll convince myself it’s the former, so I can at least bleed more green.

Elway should win the Nobel peace prize for his last (desperate) week of work.

Since most people have left the Saints post…
Could Payton be an offensive assistant at the college level this year? I am sure some team would pay him mid-six figures for a 40 hour work week (half of his normal requirement).
Doesn’t he fly home to Texas every weekend?

Tebow is the greatest fraud to ever play in the NFL.
Were you awake last season? You are aware that they went to the playoffs and beat the Steelers, right? How can reality be fraudulent?
Was that Tebow alone or did having a great defense have a tad more to do with it.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:32 PM
I wouldn’t look too much into that game. Our QB was playing on one leg while 7 or 8 starters were out with injuries, including the entire D-Line. Plus it’s pretty hard to win a playoff game on the road, especially in Denver.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:32 PM
A coworker who doesn’t know a lot about football asked me “Is this a big deal? Is the Jets quarterback not that good?”
March 21st, 2012 at 1:32 PM
TBL is so pumped. He must be doing a ton of curls and leg squats right now.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Tebow will be fine in NY. NY ers wont be calling for Tebow like they were in Denver. There is nothing wrong with qb comp. The problem is the price they paid. why a 4th rd er is beyond me. Seems crazy that they needed to pay anymore than a 7th.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:33 PM
How can reality be fraudulent?
Hopefully the Jets have kicker thats good between 55-60 yards.
March 21st, 2012 at 1:33 PM

Also the playoff game that Tebow ‘won’ was against a Steelers team with a largely injured offensive line, a QB who due to injury was even less mobile than normal, and without their best safety in the secondary.

Denver having a “great defense” was one of last season’s biggest misconceptions. They were spectacularly average across the board.
Against the patchwork o-line that the steelers trotted out for that playoff game I’d say the relative value of that defense went up a lot. Also, wasn’t Mendenhall out that game as well? Little or no run game, Roethlisberger couldn’t get time to throw and an old defense: Frank Tripucka could’ve beat that steelers team.

sometimes, if it’s the 2nd round and a guy you had graded as a first rounder is still there. You can give up your fourth round pick to swap 2nd rounders with another team, and get the first round guy.
Or, you can trade a 4th round pick for an older, former Pro Bowl linebacker to fill a bad positional need, freeing you up to take the BPA in the first round.

Only if he also throws 25 ints, because the only way he’s approaching 40 TDs is if he has 700+ attempts.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:18 PM
Very true. The only thing the villain stole was Elisha Dushku’s rebellious nature.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:18 PM
ddmcd1974 Says:
They paid a lil too much yes but Palmer will throw for 35-40 td’s this year.

Completely incorrect. The F/A 18 is a completely separate plane called the Hornet and Super Hornet. You are out if your depth here Donnie.

Doesn’t all the jersey money go into the NFL to be split upa and not to the individual team?

The Palmer trade was well worth it.
To the Bengals.

Yeah, I think all jersey money is pooled and then split evenly between teams and all players.

Not true. Also if you are using the all-important jersey sale metric…Palmer’s jersey isn’t exactly a hot commodity. It wouldn’t sniff the top 100 league wide.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Correct, and they were supposed to be replaced with the F22 Raptors, but shit got done screwed up.

I got to poke around an F15A once in high school, I don’t think people realize how big jets are. I seem to remember it being like thirty feet tall and a hundred feet long.
I want to play Air/Ace Combat now.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:26 PM
You all will regret doubting Palmer. If he was on the 49 ers this year they would be the favorite to win and you would say how great Harbaugh/Palmer is. Your clouded because of your hatred for the Raiders and all the stupidity Davis showed in his last 8 years.

Babar Im talking about Raider fans not the NFL overall. If you are a Raider fan can you honestly tell me you have felt any hope since Gannon left? Palmer was worth a 1. not 2 but 1 yes.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Devang, the F 22 got too expensive. The F 35 will eventually replace the Harrier and the Hornet.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Really don’t get all the hate on Tebow. First year starting in the NFL, 2nd year in the league and he went to the 2nd round of the playoffs with a terrible team (please stop saying their defense was amazing. they weren’t).
Just because you guys hate the media coverage of Tebow doesn’t mean he’s a shitty quarterback. Manning threw 28 picks his first year, who gives a shit. I don’t hear you guys bashing Josh Freeman for being a starting quarterback, and he’s WAY worse than Tebow.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:29 PM
They overpaid. They had a coach who was trying to save his own ass, as the GM at the time. He didn’t give a shit about the next year.
Hopefully, Palmer is average next year. It’s all I expect.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:30 PM
I don’t know. Thats in about 5 min of internet hmwrk, and I see plenty of pass-rushers and RBs there.
But hey, they really, really needed another slow, underwhelming RB.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:30 PM
Speaking of overly expensive jets that are running into huge issues…the F35 should be one of the defense programs that should get cut. GAO said yesterday that it’s already billions over budget.

No, but expecting Palmer to play like it’s 2006 is unreasonable. I am not sure how much better I feel about it now.

Yes, design specs were first issued then. The contract was awarded in early 2000s, can’t remember the year. Flight testing on all three variants, including the vertical take off and landing version for the Marines is currently underway. The program had had lots of problems but we have no other designs in the pipeline right now. This is our fighter and attack aircraft of the future and it has to work.
March 21st, 2012 at 2:39 PM
I agree, the media over saturation leads to a lot of the negative opinions around him. But him failing to have more than 10 completions in 9 of his 16 games makes him pretty shitty.

Not surprised. The Intruder is stone age technology by comparison. Some have said that’s part of the problem with the F 35 though. Its so complicated that a ton of things could go wrong just with the software.
