Royce White Leaves Iowa State Early For the NBA
Royce White, whose NBA stock soared after two impressive NCAA tournament games, is leaving Iowa State with two years of eligibility left. He’s a lock to go in the first round, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him get into the lottery.
The big loser here is Fred Hoiberg and Iowa State, which loses a possible 1st team All-American (he was that good this year), and the type of player who might have had Iowa State loitering in the Top 15 – and near the top of the Big 12 – all season.
Here’s one for you – who would you draft if you wanted a small forward and Royce White and Perry Jones were on the board? Jones has more potential, but there’s no way I could take him over White. Both have a similar skill set, but Jones is much longer and more athletic. But who knows if that potential will ever be realized? [via Jeff Goodman]

I’d take the one that doesn’t have an issue with riding in planes. NBA players tend to be in planes a lot.

White over Jones III any day of the week. Better all around player and more consistent. PJ3 is more athletic, but Royce is built for the NBA game.

This.
Obviously, his psychological profile may give teams pause before drafting him. Talent-wise? He may be better than anyone without a contract right now.

I just assume a big time Iowa State prospect is gonna end up like Marcus Fizer. It is unfair, I’m sure, but the team I own in my dreams (The Washington Bullets, Part 2.0 of Malibu, in case you were wondering) will never draft an Iowa State player because of that

I absolutely HATE planes. Drove from Indiana to Vegas over 2 days while friends flew in 3 hours. But I’d fly every day if you’re paying me $3-6 Mil

White because he gives full effort. PJIII plays hard only when he feels like it. ever since last year, i’ve had this Kwame Brown vibe from PJIII

Would either of these guys be successful NBA SF’s without an outside shot? Neither one of them made more than ten 3′s all year; maybe they have that kind of shot, but if they did, they’d be displaying it in college, right?
Meanwhile just about every top SF in the League has attempted more than one hundred 3′s so far just this year.

I haven’t been in a plane in seven years. I’d change my tune for millions.

jayhawk,
Royce White can hit a three when needed.

I said it last night and I’ll say it again: Royce White drove to one road game this year, in Louisville last week. The only reason this was possible was because of spring break and class/schedules weren’t an issue.
He has anxiety about a lot of things, of which planes are one. He’s a bright guy with an anxiety issue. Not a troublemaker or head case.

You guys are crazy.

Marcus Fizer also went to the Bulls, post-Jordan. Bad situation, and two blown ACLs didn’t help either. He underperformed for a #4 draft pick but injuries played a huge role in that. He was having his best season, solid by any standards, when he blew an ACL.

If I was an owner, I’d fly him around in my personal jet and do the workout. Tell the pilot to hit turbulence, etc.

ATL, I haven’t been on a flight in over 10 years. never had the need or the funds to go anywhere that required a flight.

That Fizer draft might be the worst of all time.

Re: Fizer, that said there’s no question his career overall was a disappointment. He had a crapload of kids with a few different women which couldn’t have helped.

Oh, I know. I was defending him last night. I was trying to draw out a, “social anxiety disorder is fake” from a certain contributor to this blog.

Fizer was a KU killer.

Royce has been in the first round of most mocks for awhile now. He didn’t exactly come from nowhere.

Just seems foreign to me is all. Lots of times flying is cheaper if you’re driving by yourself with gas and everything. 4-5 hours of driving is probably my limit… anything else and I’m flying.

Sorry KC, I do remember you sticking up for him last night.
I have to say, I was a bit worried about Hoiberg taking on all these transfers, but they really have been all good guys. No arrests, no rumors of ego issues, anything like that. So far it’s been a good way to jump start the program until he can recruit and develop high school talent.
I’ll miss Royce. Great talent, really unique guy. Shame we only had him for a year.

NHOH. He’s like the Blaine Gabbert of the 2012 NBA Draft

You have not watched enough ISU games if you think Royce has no outside presence.

Both will have a hard time being full-time NBA contributors. White because of his aversion to conditioning, and PJIII because he only seems to play hard every fourth or fifth game.

Seriously, have you even seen him? How is he averse to conditioning?
