can someone explain to me why TBL will often times have a great picture of the roundup girl on the homepage but then when you click on the roundup link it almost always turns out to be a much worse picture? it’s like terrorists are responsible for selecting these. not good TBL

John Carter is a pretty stupid name for a Disney action/adventure flick.
It sounds more like the next Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan/Julia Roberts movie.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
yeh how did tim riggins sign off on that one?
John Carter appears to be a $200 million flop
John Carter is a pretty stupid name for a Disney action/adventure flick.
It sounds more like the next Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan/Julia Roberts movie.

If you’re up for a sad story, here’s one about the longtime trainer of the Atlanta Braves.
Yes, that was tough to read. The rallying of support was uplifting, though.
Gilbert Arenas is going to sign with the Grizzlies.
If he’s in reasonable shape & plays winning/team-oriented basketball, it can be a good pickup. The backup PGs haven’t been consistent, and you all know how I hate Conley’s game.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:24 AM
What? After reading all that he has done how can you say that. Like someone said in the comments just because he doesn’t pose or start off press conferences with a bible verse doesn’t make him less of a person.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:24 AM
Never seen so much hype from Disney to see a movie. From print media to the TV ads, it sounds/looks like to be the greatest film of all-time. I guess with prob all the money dumped into it, they prob wanted to make they got their money back.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
Just read the Bobby Knight post. Good stuff, guys.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
I just was reading the Bob Knight post from yesterday. Then I had to make sure I was not on TMZ’s website. Yep, I was on TBL. Incredible.
Oh and what does cankle girl in the roundup pic do?
March 20th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
Chicago’s got a major gang problem
It’s all that hooch they’re getting from Nucky.
Gilbert Arenas is going to sign with the Grizzlies.
To help coach OJ Mayo?
March 20th, 2012 at 8:28 AM
I’d never even heard of a tree well before…damned trees always trying to find new ways to kill us. fake deep snow drift? well played, tree. well played.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
No one likes you here. No one has ever liked you here. No one will ever like you here. You are an attention seeking, conflict causing child who spews out whatever the first thought that transmits from the one firing synapse in your head to your fingertips. I have little doubt that you have never provided anything of significance to anyone that has ever encountered you.

John Carter is a pretty stupid name for a Disney action/adventure flick.
It sounds more like the next Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan/Julia Roberts movie.
It was supposed to be “John Carter of Mars” but apparently the focus groups that Disney hired didn’t like that because “it sounded too sci-fi.”
I just was reading the Bob Knight post from yesterday.
HOW DID YOU GET THIS WEBSITE ADDRESS?
Which is kind of the point.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:31 AM
Just read the Foxwoods article.
Head scratcher: The state which reaps the most revenue from its casinos??? Pennsylvania. Wouldn’t have been in my top 5 guesses, that’s for sure.

I got it from a source.
“look you can’t read my work unless you tell me who gave youths web address”
Like I said, from a source.
Then a pop up ad comes up.

March 20th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
the real Kenny Rogers is sitting on the floor of a plastic surgeons office somewhere, I have no idea who this impostor is, but he sure as shit ain’t the gambler.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
i can’t believe JJ Hickson lasted this long in Sac town. he only lasted like a week on his European team during the lockout.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
I assume someone sent a personal message to our pimply faced adolescent who keeps coming back under new pseudonyms.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
Tony – no such thing as a “bad” picture of Alice Eve.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Oh, I enjoyed hearing Lisk on Yahoo sports radio last night.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
The original John Carter books were written in the first half of the 20th century. There is nothing wrong with making a movie from source material from The 1930′s — there is something wrong with making a movie from source material that no one has ever heard of.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
I assume someone sent a personal message to our pimply faced adolescent who keeps coming back under new pseudonyms.
Seriously, I don’t comment for about 10 days and I miss that zinger?

No it was from SouvenirCity trying to act like your popularity level on this site is how awesome your life is
March 20th, 2012 at 8:40 AM
So thats the best she looks? Woof.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:40 AM
I’m really confused. so that was a serious comment? well, color me entertained then. I’d like to know who the nemesis is that he’s raging at.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
It was supposed to be “John Carter of Mars” but apparently the focus groups that Disney hired didn’t like that because “it sounded too sci-fi.”
I love focus groups. Take the one thing in the title that makes the product distinctive & remove it. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
OBTW – my friend in Omaha saw the flick with his sons (8 and 6 yrs old) and they loved it.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
They get to tempt Darwin like all generations before them. 5 drinks in one sitting is not a binge, a binge you must maintain a 7.5/10 drunk or higher for at least 12 straight hours.
Almost like the NFL is run by an iron fisted PR master as I completely forgot about Greg Williams with all the Peyton Manning/Tebow/Free agency news.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
Yeah, I heard him too…uncomfortably fielding Travis Rodgers’ questions about the Bob Knight phone call.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
Anyone else old enough to remember the 1980 version of Flash Gordon?

No, she has webbed feet
March 20th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
No shit, was he actually asked about that? Poor Lisk.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Tony – no such thing as a “bad” picture of Alice Eve.
This explains so much about the roundup pictures
March 20th, 2012 at 8:44 AM

first I’ve heard of this Lauren Stoner person …
thanks for the NSFW warning there.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
I love that this was posted by someone in a comments section of a sports/tabloid blog. This is serious stuff people!
March 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
They both seem like good human beings, which is good for the NFL. Why compare who is “more good?” Tim Tebow is a good human being. He’s no Mother Teresa off the field, but he’s a good guy.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Marvin the Martian and Peter Griffin or GTFO.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Yep, then it’s safe to say Jason found her worst possible pose and made it the Roundup pic. Amazing.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
it’s Spring Break, please remind the kids not to binge drink

Shit, the other day I was by the Port and the kids were being forced to take the alcohol out of their bags before going on spring break cruises. They had enough hooch confiscated to open up a bar!
March 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
there is something wrong with making a movie from source material that no one has ever heard of.
Well three people in my house have read that book. And Disney has more than $40 of our money.

fight………….fight………..fight……fight..fight Fight FIGht FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!!!
March 20th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
I probably embellished that a bit. I don’t know if Lisk was uncomfortable. Travis just asked him whether he was the one who had given you Knight’s phone number and then there was some back and forth after that. Rodgers didn’t seem to have a problem with your phone call, fwiw.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:47 AM

Remember it? Shit, I own it and love it!
March 20th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
So did TBL fuck all y’all’s sisters? Because the amount of bitching toward him has become quite noticeable lately.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Hacker – Thanks. not that it matters, but it’s running about 60-40 as “no problem with” the call (via comments, twitter, email, etc)
March 20th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Um, are you ‘telling’ on SC? Snitches get stitches.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
More enjoyable was Duffy defending it yesterday on Twitter.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
I just read that whole Knight thread from yesterday afternoon. You guys are incredibly hilarious.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
Disney made some changes at the top of their movie org. They need Carter to do well b/c they have a very low # of movies in production (2 for 2012 release, I think?). Movies are tentpoles for their overall org and drive revenue in other channels. John Carter had a big budget, but they are relying on it’s income in other areas, just not the film dept. and their small slate is exacerbating the situation. Hollywood Reporter had a few good articles on this if I recal…
March 20th, 2012 at 8:53 AM

TBL HAD SEX WITH MY MOMMA…WHYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!
/doctor says i need a backeatomy
March 20th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Well that was shortly into the first season without LeBron. The team needed someone to cheer for that had been around for a little while. His true value showed when, 6 months later, he was traded for Casspi.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I’d never even heard of a tree well before…damned trees always trying to find new ways to kill us. fake deep snow drift? well played, tree. well played.
If a tree well is what I think it is, I fell in one at Crested Butte once. It took me over an hour to get out with the help of couple friends. It wasn’t a life threatening situation, but it was fucking scary. And I was beyond exhausted by time I was up and out of it.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I’m really surprised they didn’t Bay & Bruckheimer it up and call it something like “Martian Armageddon: The John Carter Chronicles.” In all seriousness a title like that would have probably gotten more viewer interest
March 20th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
So I make it all winter without getting sick…we now have 80-degree days here in March and I am coming down with a cold.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I dont think the call was the part that people had the most problem with. You knew exactly what reaction you were going to get, and made a post about it. Youre the story. Congrats.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
may i suggest seppuku?
March 20th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Anyone else old enough to remember the 1980 version of Flash Gordon?
Gordon’s alive?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
/Queen soundtrack FTW
Back in the day, somebody got me a few flash gordon action figures back when Star Wars figures were the thing. I was like, get this 2nd rate crap out of here. I found them when going through some childhood boxes and gifted them to a friend heavy into collectibles. He was cracking up.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
I always had the hots for the Ming’s daughter in Flash Gordon.
/Flash, I love you, but we only have 14 hours to save the Earth!
March 20th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Has anyone even been in a focus group or was a Neilsen family? I vaguely remember my parents being part of the radio ratings when I was really young.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
But, I will agree that Hickson was extemely overrated throughout much of his Cleveland career. Some Cavs fans thought he was like a young Shawn Kemp. Just completely irrational stuff.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
The call was fine, posting the transcript debatable, not advancing the story in any way predictable.
March 20th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
I’m really surprised they didn’t Bay & Bruckheimer it up and call it something like “Martian Armageddon: The John Carter Chronicles.” In all seriousness a title like that would have probably gotten more viewer interest
Yes.
And, they could have used a Def Leppard song in the trailers…
March 20th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
it’s running about 60-40 as “no problem with” the call
Cold Call Mondays, is a done deal?
March 20th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I went and saw John Carter a week ago. First off: Lynn Collins (the Martian princess) can get it. And the first 40 minutes are actually quite entertaining. Same as the last 10 minutes. Problem is that it’s a 140 minute movie that doesn’t pull off an epic vibe.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Agree CJ. It came across like TBL was bitter because Bobby didn’t want to talk to him and tried to make him look like a dick. There are plenty of ways to make Bobby Knight look like an asshole. This one was pretty lame.
I have no problem with TBL making the call and trying to talk to him. That’s not uncommon. It’s just making a post when Knight didn’t want to talk to a blogger who he’s never heard of.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
your memory isn’t exactly sterling in this regard…we didn’t want to trade hickson for amare and pay 1,000% for what, at the time, was like 10 extra points per game and a couple more rebounds and just as little defense. it was purely a numbers game.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
I always had the hots for the Ming’s daughter in Flash Gordon.
Ming’s daughter >>> Leia in chains for Jabba the Hoke.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
I vote for Mike Tannenbaum next
March 20th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Yeah, we had to fill in the TV diary for a week once. That was a huge pain in the rear.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Has anyone even been in a focus group or was a Neilsen family?
I got hooked into some marketing company. I would get calls every six months to go listen to three second snippets of songs to decide if I liked three seconds of a song. It was always in a hotel ballroom. $50 for two hours. And, also, this is how radio programmers determine what is on the radio.
A buddy of mine got into a diaper study right after his kid was born. They had free diapers for a year.
I was also a Nielson rater one spring when I first moved to KC. I just wrote down a bunch of shit and collected my five brand new crisp one dollar bills. It was a bunch of bullshit.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
not that it matters, but it’s running about 60-40 as “no problem with” the call (via comments, twitter, email, etc)
I don’t have a problem with you making the call. You’ve every right to ask a public figure something just as he has the right to refuse to answer any question and hang up on you. I wonder though why it merited a post. Knight didn’t answer anything. So what benefit to your readers did that post provide?
It was akin to running into Dustin Diamond at the grocery store then running over to Facebook to tell your friends that you stood right next to Dustin Diamond.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
Not really into going back down the road, but this week, Knight is a big story story because of Kentucky and Indiana. He hasn’t addressed it, he won’t address it, so I called him hoping he would.
He didn’t.
The end.
It isn’t the first time I’ve “cold called’ someone who was in the midst of a big “story.” Most are polite and decline comment and don’t fly off the handle. Knight did. No, I’m not surprised. If you’re chasing a news story on a very public figure, that’s what you do … you make a phone call.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Cold Call Mondays, is a done deal?
I vote for Mike Tannenbaum next
Howzabout Ryan Braun? If not, I bet Jim Leyland would be a hoot.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
It isn’t the first time I’ve “cold called’ someone who was in the midst of a big “story.”
So there have been other Cold Call Mondays?
March 20th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
i don’t know shit about college hoops…do knight and kentucky have history? like knight turned down a coaching job there or something?
March 20th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
The first thing a team does to increase a guy’s trade value is say he’s untouchable.
JJ Hickson is awful.
Also, Phoenix never would have done an Amare-JJ swap.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Love how “Cold Calling” is in quotes — here is a definition:
Cold calling is the marketing process of approaching prospective customers or clients, typically via telephone, who were not expecting such an interaction. The word “cold” is used because the person receiving the call is not expecting a call or has not specifically asked to be contacted by a sales person.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
just out of curiosity, if you take out fellow media members (who are likely going to defend it) what is the split? or what is the split between media and non-media? I’m guessing quite different.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
ooo…i like.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Has anyone even been in a focus group or was a Neilsen family?
sorry ma’am, I lied to you. I’m very sorry about that. That man right there is my brother and if he doesn’t get to watch ‘People’s Court’ in about 30 seconds, he’s gonna throw a fit right here on your porch. Now you can help me or you can stand there and watch it happen.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Maybe he saw the pic of you in your Jersey Shore shades and was too repulsed to talk…
March 20th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
Saw this movie with my sisters in the theatre when I was 10. great flick, plus the Queen soundtrack was pretty cool too.
/saw movie on TV a few months ago, not so great now.

Fair enough.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
Spencer – did you even read the post? The Knight-Cal history is detailed in the post.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I have zero percent issues with the call and 100% issues with posting the transcript.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I wouldn’t exactly calling his responses flying off the handle. He asked that you reveal where you got his personal number. And, as has been covered extensively, he had no comment, yet you posted the transcript of the conversation as if it were a story. You say you were looking for information for a story regarding the Knight-Kentucky stuff- you didn’t get this information and instead (arguably out of spite) opted to make yourself the story. I think that’s what most of the commenters had a problem with, myself included.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
i figured there had to be more than some minor beef from 2009…and that was more beef with calipari than kentucky itself.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
oooo, just call him up and start booing him. nice thinking SROD
March 20th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
They have a long history. Basically it’s that Kentucky has always been cheating sacks of shit and that rankles Knight, who for whatever else you want to say about him, ran a squeaky clean program and genuinely cares about college bb.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
I love Bobby Knight and I would have loved to play for him.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
There is more than that. You can’t be surprised it’s not detailed can you? After all, JMac’s feelings were hurt and he was out to make Knight look like a dick.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
um, it was at the bottom of a post about Knight and Kentucky. Could I have gone with “i called Knight. He didn’t want to comment.” Sure. I opted to post the transcript. If people have an issue with that, oh well.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Will there be a post about the Warriors fans going off on their owner last night during Mullin’s retirement ceremony? That shit was awkward.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
kaiser, that would be funny. Rude, but funny.
“Seriously, though”, I’m here watching MLB’s “30 Clubs – 30 Days” on the Brewhas, and the host mentioned Braun declined a request to be on the show. I wanna hear what he has to say off-the-cuff. No prepared remark, but the raw, uncut view.

This guy is just ruining my childhood one show at a time. He needs to be stopped.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
Good luck with that.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Tree wells are serious shit. Fortunately, I haven’t encountered one because unfortunately, I haven’t been able to ski out west yet.
For some reason, there’s been a lot of ski/snow related deaths this year. I don’t know if it’s random chance, or the low snow pack making runs more dangerous, or what. Sad.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
um, it was at the bottom of a post about Knight and Kentucky.
This is a bit misleading because the pay off for the post was the phone call — the title of the post is also “Bobby Knight Still Won’t Talk About Kentucky, Not Even When You Try Him on His Cell Phone”
March 20th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
Yea I understand it was at the bottom of the post, but it was written in a manner that your post was a lead in for the call. And of course people would focus on that call rather than the other stuff you posted about; I think you know this. I was just clarifying what I think some of the commenter uproar was about. Like I said, I had a problem with you posting the call transcript, but I’m not exactly furious about it. It’s my opinion you would have been better off posting the “no comment” line you wrote above. Of course, it’s worth noting that I’m not a journalist and may have a completely wrong impression of how these things are handled.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
natural selection.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
I think the key issue is how you got his personal cell phone. If he doesn’t generally give it out to media members to contact him, then I can understand why he would be upset that some random guy is calling him.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Congratulations? Shouldn’t you be shooting for a little higher than that? If half the people saw it and didn’t like it, that’s a failing grade.
Also, the most bizarre item from yesterday wasn’t young Jason posting a non-existent transcript to try and make Knight look bad (if that wasn’t the reason, then why no other terse ‘no comment’ full transcripts added to posts?) but rather him being at a loss as to why the Broncos wouldn’t announce they were signing Manning, until he is actually, you know, signed.
Signed,
Your Irreverent Beekeeper
March 20th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Nobody had a problem with you calling Knight TBL. But every other journalist would have included “when reached, Knight refused comment” at the end of the post instead of a transcript of a completely normal reaction by someone who was being bothered on a line he thought was private. Your piece read like “look whose number I have, and how I used it!” As others have said, you made yourself the story. If you think we’re making an objection to the actual call, you’re wrong.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
I love Bobby Knight and I would have loved to play for him.
this times a million. LOVE bobby knight in a strictly non-homosexual manner.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Tree wells are serious shit.
Yep. That’s what I fell in. At least I ended up with my head above the snow. Quite scary when I couldn’t move my legs and one arm.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
This is what I had a problem with. Not problem per se. You can post whatever you want. I just think you’re above it. You made a shot in the dark at instigating original content. Had Knight addressed your questions, I’m sure the post would have been a great read. However, he didn’t, but your resulting post came off as bragging, for lack of a better word, that you’re good enough to have sources but not good enough to have a story, because we’re to infer Knight is a dick. Based on my time here, and based on your past material, you’re better than that.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
um, it was at the bottom of a post about Knight and Kentucky.
wait, wasn’t the title of the post something along the lines of “Knight is grumpy, even when I called him?”
March 20th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
As long as TBL posts screengrabs of his own errors, then there should be no problem with continually calling out ESPN for their small mistakes.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
but rather him being at a loss as to why the Broncos wouldn’t announce they were signing Manning, until he is actually, you know, signed.
Followed later that night by a post taking a jab at ESPN for posting on its website that Laron Landry signed somewhere he ended up not going to! AMAZING in its lack of self awareness.

The difference between my call and the Knight call? I did not write about it until now.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
you know we push your buttons for the fun reactions, right?
but seriously, you’re essentially admiting you avoided the professional way to write the story in favor of a more sensational, page view driving way to write the story.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Pete DeBoer and John Tortorella have me embarrassed as a hockey fan this morning. What a sham last night. Get that nonsense out of the game.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Don’t you think there was a better way to make your request for an interview? I mean what if Knight was taking a dump and playing some angry birds when he got your call? I’d be upset if that time was taken from me too.
Jason, you say you were looking for a story here. That’s your job, so you’re just doing your job. But you struck out and didn’t get the story because you didn’t get the interview. That’s fine; it happens. But when you still do the post it looks like you’re just trying to be a dick.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Most people are fucking idiots, this is not shocking.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
This right here. Whenever the writer becomes the story the writer has failed…miserably.
Again, I don’t think this was the problem.

No, I’d say THIS is the best she looks:
Yep, then it’s safe to say Jason found her worst possible pose and made it the Roundup pic. Amazing.
personally I would’ve gone with either of these pics… i’m not her biggest fan but she looks fantastically awesome and much hotter in any of these. and i personally love the last pic,. some gals look smokin in nerdy glasses

Jesus christ people. We’re still talking about this stupid Bob Knight bullshit? Do any of you really think Jason would ever admit to you that he may have possibly used bad judgment on posting that NON-STORY?
March 20th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
Thanks. not that it matters, but it’s running about 60-40 as “no problem with” the call (via comments, twitter, email, etc)
Most people are fucking idiots, this is not shocking.
Also, I don’t think anyone actually objects to the call itself. It was the making something out of his rather benign “no comment.”
March 20th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
A buddy of mine is a HS hoops coach. When Knight was at IU he’d open up a couple of practices each year for HS coaches to watch and then had a mini-coaching clinic afterwards. Very accommodating. Sounds like his practices were 85 – 90 minutes of choreographed hell.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
I am glad to see that they say bilingualism is cognitively advantageous. Learning to speak Polish as an adult, and living in an area where English wasn’t spoken, seemed to only have a deteriorative affect on my English-speaking capabilities.
/The misspelling of bilingualism made me snicker.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
It’s amazing the number of outstanding prank calls I have seen over the last couple of days that I had never heard of until now. Perhaps this is the silver lining on the whole retarded fiasco.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Pete DeBoer and John Tortorella have me embarrassed as a hockey fan this morning. What a sham last night. Get that nonsense out of the game.
As I said yesterday, fine the teams a hefty sum and fine the coaches too. Other than Prust, the players involved shouldn’t have NHL roster spots.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Perhaps this is the silver lining on the whole retarded fiasco.
I thought the silver lining from yesterday was discovering that you’re a bee keeper?
/Did you see the ESPN/Laron Landry post?!
March 20th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Good point. Let’s talk golf.
Tiger’s swing looked pretty good yesterday despite the achilles scare a couple weeks ago…amiright?

March 20th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Pete DeBoer and John Tortorella have me embarrassed as a hockey fan this morning. What a sham last night. Get that nonsense out of the game.
I saw that on NHLN last night. No pretense from either team at the opening faceoff.
The studio guys, to a man, all agreed that this was “sending a message” and “establishing their turf”.
I know there was a post here last night about it. I’m kinda nonplussed about hockey fights, at least when it’s one-on-one. Multiple fights all at once, all over the ice? Seems like mere spectacle than anything.
A team can play hard-nosed, physical hockey without resorting to the pre-determined stuff we saw last night. You wanna stand your ground? Finish your checks.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
Jesus christ people. We’re still talking about this stupid Bob Knight bullshit?
It’s more fun than learning about your smelly co-workers.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Wasn’t it DeBoer that sent that lineup out and Tortorella simply countered?
Also: Are we sure that Peter DeBoer is a good coach? This is his second NHL shot after a good career coaching junior and I’m not seeing it.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
… Chicago’s got a major gang problem
49 people shot over the weekend… 10 deaths. yowswers.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Sad to say, but look for more ski incidents given the parade of storms hammering the west coast.
Mt. Baker (WA) is reporting 11.5′ in the past 11 days! That’s a recipe for disaster.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
If I had known that my fascination for bees and honey would have brought so much joy to the internet, I would have made it known long ago.
Also, you can’t blame TBL for posting errors from other sites about Laron Landry. That’s his bicep-based idol.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Season on the Brink gives a good idea of a Knight practice. Knight taught a coaching class for students nearly up to his dismissal from IU.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Tiger’s swing looked pretty good yesterday despite the achilles scare a couple weeks ago…amiright?
based on the interview he did with van pelt, i’d say tiger’s approach from now on is to play as much as possible while staying as healthy as possible – all in preparation for majors.
expect his game to peak exactly 4 times this year.

I do as well, and love it. That Janelle chick’s got a great voice!
March 20th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Wasn’t it DeBoer that sent that lineup out and Tortorella simply countered?
Don’t forget that Tortorella did the same thing in Jersey just a while back – which resulted in Prust/Rupp vs. Boulton/Janssen.
Deboer is a good coach, tough to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
49 people shot over the weekend… 10 deaths. yowswers.
Gotta keep the 10-14 years out of them. So really you’re already 4 years behind.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
I completely agree with this sentiment and there were some (smart, reasoned) people that had this perspective. It could just be revisionist, but I remember people in the Cleveland area going really overboard with the JJ love.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
My mother is fluent in French and my grandmother is straight up French, so I plan on having them speak only French to my daughter. I wish I would have picked up a second language when I was young. Huge regret.

Fucking morons. I hate Texas drivers.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Tiger’s swing looked pretty good yesterday
When he can hit 75% of fairways in a Sunday death match, it’ll be good. Even at Honda his driver swing looked sketchy and that’s the cog he needs to fix if he wants to win at Augusta. He can’t fake his way around there with his 3-wood. His iron game is preemininent though.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
we’re still on about the Jerky Boys meme, eh?
March 20th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
It’s so hard to keep though. My mother went to French Catholic school as a child, and at one point she spoke French better then English. Then she went to middle school and high school, and now she can only say random words.
Same thing with my grandparents (her parents). I remember being real young, and my grandfather would watch the French local cable channel. Then I took French in HS, and he couldn’t even help me with my homework.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
You don’t think so? I know Augusta is seriously lengthy now, but he was hitting the 3W about 300-310 off the tee yesterday. Isn’t that long enough to survive at Augusta if you can chip and putt worth a damn?
March 20th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Husker, the acoustic version is much better.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
I mean, Harelip Johnson won a green jacket and he can’t outhit most people on the internet.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
I took 4 years of French in high school and two semesters in college, but when you stop using it you lose it. When I go to France for a couple of weeks I always pick up stuff, but I bet I speak the French version of ebonics. I’m sure it’s terrible. I remember back in like 2006 I could speak it really well when I flew out there with some college friends, but now I’m essentially retarded when it comes to speaking it. It sucks.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
I think he’ll try but it wont work. Rory, DJ, Phil, et all are going to turn it into the par-68 it is and he wont be able to keep up. Top 10 for sure, (he’s done no worse than 6th in the past 6 years). If anybody can win Augusta without the driver, it’ll be Tiger though.
Also, I’ve seen church 4-man scramble outings w/ tougher course set up than Tavistock.
March 20th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
I am glad to see that they say bilingualism is cognitively advantageous. Learning to speak Polish as an adult, and living in an area where English wasn’t spoken, seemed to only have a deteriorative affect on my English-speaking capabilities.
I speak 2 Indian languages, and a little bit of Spanish. My kids understand and speak a little bit of Hindi with their mom and my mom speaks to them in Gujarati. It’s definitely advantageous.

Q: Hi Mr. Tebow, my name is Jason McIntyre and I write for The Big Lead. We write about sports and the media and I was calling to ask you if you could sign the poster I have of you over my bed.
Tebow: How did you get this number?
Q: Just a source. I’ve been in the media for a few years and I love you … [cuts me off]
Tebow (voice audibly raised): HOW DID YOU GET THIS NUMBER?
Q: Just a contact I …. [cuts me off]
Tebow: I’m going to ask you one last time. Who gave you this number?
Q: Mr. Tebow, I’m just calling to ask about my poster and I love you and how do you feel about the Jets, It seems … [cuts me off]

March 20th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
I’ve found this works just fine.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
I was conversationally fluent when I graduated high school. We were not allowed to speak English in our Spanish classes, it was forced learning by immersion and it just clicked for me. Oddly enough, the summer before my junior year I was mowing my neighbor’s yard and I started thinking in Spanish. Apparently my brain is really fucking racist.
I tested out of Spanish in college and said fuck this I’m done. Three years later I found myself stranded in Madrid having to find a cab at two in the morning that took credit cards and had to describe my hotel because I didn’t know the name, I barely made it through.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:00 AM

March 20th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
John Carter was a flop from the minute it was greenlit. No star, no recognizable source material, shitty release date, bad marketing campaign, and no built-in audience. The real question is not “how could John Carter lose $200M?” It’s “How could John Carter ever been viewed as a smart investment by Disney?”

March 20th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Our headquarters is in Milwaukee, so I’m working from there on Friday and taking the train down Friday evening to hang with some family. Small chance I may be downtown Saturday night, otherwise, I’ll be in the burbs for the weekend. I’ll hit you, SC, and the rest of the Chicago crew up if I make it out.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Spence, after Augusta, when he cant make pars on 10 & 11 b/c he sprays that driver too far right, I ask you come in and admit he cant drive under pressure. If he can do it at Augusta, I’ll be the first to admit I’m wrong but the driver has let him down at Augusta the past few years. If he can win there knocking his low-traj 3W (like pres cup) it’ll be a feat of shotmaking of the highest order.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Bad ass rock band. They’ve been around for a while, but most people have probably heard of them for the first time within the last 3-4 years. I know that’s the case for me.

Was I the only one watching Sunday at Pebble and Sunday at Honda? Obviously he played great to get in contention but he didnt drive well those 2 days. Old Tiger racked up wins and drove worse, so maybe we’re all in the nut house.

Sweet Christ…..she may be making a move for the top 5…..and the accent….
March 20th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Well at least your beard has big tits.

quality comment right here.
/pours one out for the apostrophe key on Vez’s keyboard
//pours two out for TBL calling Vez “Roastbeef”
March 20th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
but he’ll be able to use that shot all fucking day at the two opens and the PGA at kiawah, so im excited regardless.
completely agree. He has more (iron) shots for the wind, than anybody.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
players ahead of Woods in accuracy: Toms, Fuyrk, Gillis, Gydos, Willis, Slocum..
none of those guys are top 75 in distance, Woods is 17th.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Sad part is….they don’t have bad designs there, but I’m not a fan of the box-y fit that most of their clothes seem to have.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
CBS does that shot-tracker on 10 or 11 at Augusta, one of the coolest in-event production shots in sports all year.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Is it in bad taste for me to laugh at this?
March 20th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
lol. That’s fantstic.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
HA! No, absolutely not. If it’s one thing that you’ll never get people to agree on, it’s what they consider good music.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
I like BR, but I’m not a big fan of Express. Oh, and Lucky jeans FTMFW. I’ve been rocking those since the mid-90s
March 20th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Regardless of where you shop, never pay full price for anything.
/Fashion tip of the day’d
March 20th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
After a little You Tubing, I don’t know what’s more ridiculous. Calling them “bad ass”, calling them a rock band, or the combination of the two.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
why are we acting like Tiger has never been able to hit accurate drives on a course he’s won 4 times or on Sunday when he has like 70 tour wins?
March 20th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I just find the description “bad ass rock band” hilarious in general. It just sounded so crackerish.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Pebble, Doral, Tuscon and Honda. Minus Honda, those are tracks to grip and rip. I hate to come off as anti-Tiger, I’m just pointing out that he’s driven like a punk in the 2 biggest rounds of the year, and I see that being a question mark at Augusta where I think you need to unload the Big Dog on a few holes.
I am certain his overall game is good enough to snag a win here at sometime. The sooner the better.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Ok, out of curiosity, what would you call them….and who are your favorite bands?
March 20th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Ok, out of curiosity, what would you call them
I’d say they’re more alternative than they are Rock Band. It’s all subjective though.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
So true.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
maybe the others (disagree on pebble), but honda aint held at no race track.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Does alternative still exist as a genre? They sound like a rock band to me with a hint of jazz vocals in them, but I would need spencer to clarify this for me.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I would agree….but if you throw “alternative” out, some people get weird image in their head. Discussing music is fun though. Completely subjective, all kinds of different opinions. It’s like talking religion, only not douchy.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I for one am a big fan of the dulcet tones of my balls smacking against your wife’s ass.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I’d say Indie/Alt Rock, so to be honest rock isn’t the adjective I object to.
I tend towards the metal/heavy side of the rock genre.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Alternative has to count as rock band right? I mean otherwise we’re just left with ….. I don’t even know. The Darkness?
Man, rock music sucks anymore.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
I’m just pointing out that he’s driven like a punk in the 2 biggest rounds of the year
he drove the ball well at Doral on Sunday when he shot a 62.
i just don’t understand how driving is the reason he won’t win augusta this year when he’s 1st in driving on the tour.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
What was that?
/sharpens knife
//knew it was a bad idea to involve his wife in Twitter
March 20th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
If it’s one thing that you’ll never get people to agree on, it’s what they consider good music.
and good food/beer.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
But we can all agree that bottled salad dressing should be abolished.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
To be fair, it’s a virtual certainty I would have said that even if you weren’t married.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
I assume they’re talking about (NSFW of course) this
Sweet Christ…..she may be making a move for the top 5…..and the accent….
i mean, unless you only like massive breasts, tose are perfect in shape, size, bounce, nipple. perfect

March 20th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
“bad ass”,
st. bear, this completely fits the black keys. the sound that guitar makes on the last solo of 10 am automatic is frightening
March 20th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
No worries. I’m basically impossible to offend. I can take a joke.
Somewhere around Mokena, Crete, Homewood, Linwood areas. Got family scattered all over. Trying to hit the city on Saturday night. We’ll see…
March 20th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
shit those burbs are far away from my burbs. have a great time
March 20th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
not sure where you’re getting that from.
they’re a pure american rock band in the american rock tradition.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
my work for john carter is done now. i’ve seen severa; positive comments.
back to some other name, and temporary moderation
March 20th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
I thought that may be the wrong word. They sound almost like a band you’d hear in New Orleans with the raspy-ness of their vocals. Not sure what’s the right word.
March 20th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Well this is a new one
