Peyton Manning to the Denver Broncos. Say Goodbye to Tim Tebow, Denver
Peyton Manning called Denver boss John Elway this morning and told him he’s going to sign with the Broncos. Chris Mortensen of ESPN broke the news.
Let’s all have a moment of silence for Tim Tebow, who will almost certainly be traded … somewhere. Jacksonville?
I’m on record with this, five months in advance: Denver will go 8-8.

Tebow to San Fran.

disgusting, disrespectful and what a slap in the face.

I’ve waited 13 minutes for this page to load just so I could say this:
Prepare to get sick of DEN getting national late games in 2012.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
The desperation move by the Broncos worked. Shrewd.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
makes me wonder if they use their cap space and #1 pick for mike wallace.
if they do that, i’d say 10 or 11 wins.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Why does DEN go 8-8? Is it because their defense is still a turd? Is it due to Manning having a poor set of WRs to throw to?
I mean, he could turn Decker and Thomas into stars. He could also be laying on his back in October wondering why he can’t feel his arms anymore after another cheap shot from James Harrison.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Hey TBL, if you want, I know a guy who might be able to give your website something to help out with it’s performance. You know, maybe enhance it a little when a big story breaks. Let me know, I’ll be down in Mexico next week, I can have it sent to you shortly thereafter.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
Do not like this for a 36 year old with health issues in high altitude and elements.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
*its
March 19th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
Our long national nightmare is over. Thank you Peyton.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Perhaps Cousin Yuri could help.
Seriously, this has to be the worst functioning ‘major’ website.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Very possibly. That D is overrated. That just means with Tebow, it would have been 4-12 or 5-11.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:27 PM
He would’ve won more games with the Titans or 49′ers.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:27 PM
/thinks back to IND’s D
//remembers numerous 12-4 seasons
///thinks DEN will be okay
March 19th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
Holy Billy Wagner, this site is not doing well this morning.
To John Elway, I bet this was more about getting rid of Tim Tebow than getting Peyton Manning (although getting Peyton Manning is obviously nice). Is there any other way he could have gotten rid of Tebow without getting skewered by the fans?
March 19th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
Do they really trade Tebow? He can’t have much value, and Peyton is coming off of an injury. Just keep him, rather than pick up a 5th rounder.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
i think the problem stems directly from the popup machine throwing out 3 popups to every visitor.
love the retro 1999 internet ad strategy.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
If San Francisco was in play, what exactly were the “cons” in going there? Same conference as Eli? Harbaugh meddling in the offense?
Seems like a regrettable decision on its face. Can’t wait to see how it plays out.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Tebow is not going to Jax. can we just stop with that. Jags are stuck with Gabbert and they just signed Henne. no way they add another “starting” qb.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
It would be nice if TBL could use some of his sweet options to upgrade the most important aspect of his livelihood.
I said it in the last post, but I’ll paraphrase it here since nobody is going to see it:
I continue to be amazed at just how bad this website it. It works just long enough for me to forget, and then it crashes again. I hope Gannett realizes the poor quality of the product they bought. Embarrassing, really.March 19th, 2012 at 12:31 PM
How about the Dolphins?
March 19th, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Our long national nightmare is over.
Disagree. TBL is still writing baseball posts.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Tebow to San Fran.
How about the Dolphins?
That would be a very dolphins thing to do.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
This is 100% about getting rid of Tebow. Im sorry Denver just is not that good. If Coherd says one more time Denver has a top 5 D great young receivers and a great rushing attack I might blow my head off. Denver 9-7 only because they have to play the raiders and chefs 4 times a year.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Matt Moore’s probably better although Miami could use the ticket sales so who knows…the way that franchise has been going they’ll probably flip the picks they got from the Bears for him as Joe Philbin longingly looks at photos of himself and Aaron Rodgers
March 19th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
I think this proves (what we knew all along, anyway) that Manning is more interested in Peyton Manning Inc than winning. $19/MM a year? Dude is eating up 17% of his team’s cap all by himself. He doesn’t give a fuck about winning. He just wants to line his own pockets and thow his league-minimum teammates under the bus when they invariably lose on wild card weekend.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
The Lions need a third string QB with Stanton leaving. Tebow could help out at RB too!
March 19th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
I think that D will be just fine. they don’t have to hold opponents to 10 points or less just to get the chance to win.
and they also no longer have a turnover liability at QB, which is just a big.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Awesome. Some dude is pissed his water bill is high and assumes someone is fucking with him. So naturally, he brings a gun to the leasing office and says, “you’re not taking me alive.” This is literally 300 yards from my office. SWAT team in now in place as the crazy bastard has locked himself in his apartment where he may have an infant with him.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:36 PM
the way that franchise has been going they’ll probably flip the picks they got from the Bears for him as Joe Philbin longingly looks at photos of himself and Aaron Rodgers
love that they turned the 2 2nd round picks they traded away for marshall into 2 3rd round picks from the bears.
dumpster fire.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:37 PM
He doesn’t give a fuck about winning. He just wants to line his own pockets and thow his league-minimum teammates under the bus when they invariably lose on wild card weekend.
Solid analysis.

To be fair, he does have a point about the water bills down here. Good god. My tap should be pumping out beer for the price I pay for water.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Ha, number 18 is retired in Denver. That is just not going to look right.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Why don’t you try turning off the radio first…that may solve it better than a shotgun blast to the face.

i won’t be sick of that. i look forward to watching that team play, especially at home
March 19th, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Stay off the roads in Denver until further notice. The celebration over this signing will be out of control.
How quickly one’s fortunes change, though. Months ago, Tebow was the story. Now, just another guy discarded on the trash bin of life.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
They play at Foxboro. Sunday Night on NBC in November Sweeps. Guaranteed.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
This is the only site on the internet that my tweaking of Chrome hasn’t killed every single popup (non porn division). I can get every ESPN autoplay ad to disappear, the popups on Snopes to vanish, but not this garbage, it still gets through the cracks.
Horrifically bad coded site. Not trying to pile on JMac here, this is completely separate from any issues people have with him, the site just does not work.
It needs to be completely torn down and rebuilt.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
Ha, number 18 is retired in Denver. That is just not going to look right.
Frank Tripucka, right cj?
March 19th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Why try to save the new guy…
Hey new guy, that sounds like a reasonable reaction and really the only fix for your horrible life-changing problem.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
I don’t think Frank Tripucka is going to have a problem consenting to the use of this number is Peyton really wants it.
considering more broncos fans probably have no idea who Tripucka is.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Plus, I’d rather see a team West of the Rockies actually get the late feature game instead of getting Jim Nantz doing the Jets or Patriots game at 4:15.

March 19th, 2012 at 12:46 PM
I know it’s cutting it close. But South Park should push back this weeks episode and do Wednesdays on this situation.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:47 PM
How long before #FreeTebow is a trending topic on Twitter?
March 19th, 2012 at 12:47 PM

March 19th, 2012 at 12:47 PM
I’m still rooting strongly for the “unexpected snag.”
March 19th, 2012 at 12:47 PM
it would be hilarious if alex smith signs elsewhere now.
Colin Kaepernick and scott tolzien would lead the niners to glory. no doubt!
March 19th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
The joke would be on the new team. Smith sucks.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Living in Nashville, it’s amazing how crazy this city/state is over Manning. Talk about lighting a fire under a franchise. You had Tennessee residents turn into Colts fans just to follow Peyton. I really don’t care either way, but it would have been the better story if he would have came to TN.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
“I feel bad for Tebow.”
– no one
March 19th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
The only time Tebow’s going to wish a fetus was aborted….
Decker and Thomas are at the most above average receivers, and I have know nothing about their TE, Virgil Green. Thier line is more suited to the run than pass, so pass protection might be an issue.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Yeah – this website is in dire need of some PEDs.
I don’t think I disagree with 8-8/9-7.
The key: can they win enough games early to win the division? Hitting on all cylinders starting around Thanksgiving is what wins championships, not defense. It’ll take a few games to get it right.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
I really don’t care either way, but it would have been the better story if he would have came to TN.
nobody outside of TN cares about the titans. people everywhere either love tebow or hate him.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
It needs to be completely torn down and rebuilt.
i smell contraction.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
It’s gonna be funny when Denver finishes third in the AFC West.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
QBs more successful than Peyton Manning went to a different franchise late in their careers only to have to wear a different number because the number they wanted was retired.
/see Montana, Joe
March 19th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
It would have been fucking awful. The radio station here renamed themselves “The Peyton” for chistsakes. I could not be more relieved.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
I am still trying to understand the clamoring for Tebow being traded (mostly on twitter)…he is a career backup. Nobody trades for backups.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
The key: can they win enough games early to win the division?
Probably. We all know AFC West isn’t that consistently strong (yeah, even my Chargers).
9-7 could win it this fall. 10-6 would be a virtual runaway from the pack.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
“Come home, Peyton”
He’s not from fucking TN. He went to school for four years in Knoxville. And the only time he’s played in Nashville has been as the opponent. Gimmeabreak.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Winner and a +1 for you
March 19th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
I think we’re having website issues this morning because this is JMac’s IT guy.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Nobody trades for backups.
The Miami dolphins do.
/nods at Jay Fiedler
March 19th, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Miami does.
/”thanks for the draft picks for AJ Feeley!” – Andy Reid
March 19th, 2012 at 12:53 PM
huh?
/Pete Carroll.
Also. You have a dynamic young QB who could use some help in reading defenses and getting rid of the ball quickly. It makes no sense to keep him in a low-pressure situation behind a veteran QB who excels at both of those.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Tebow gets shifted to slotback or TE. Alex Smith signs with Miami and disappears down a black hole again. Colin Kaepernick takes over in SF, and the Niners win the Super Bowl in 2014, beating the Broncos.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:54 PM
I’ll second that. Tentatively, given the source.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:55 PM
2 of the 5 worst offensive linemen in all of the NFL last year.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:55 PM
-TBL
March 19th, 2012 at 12:55 PM
So if you think Peyton is going to take them 8-8 and Tebow would be “lucky to lead them to 6 wins” then you’d agree that Manning gives them a much better chance at making the playoffs.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:55 PM
I confuse AJ Feely and Jay Fiedler all the time. My bad. (Or did the dolphins trade for Jay Fiedler too?)
March 19th, 2012 at 12:56 PM
I’ll go with 10-6 after a 4-4 start and AFC semi appearance. I have the over under on him missing games at 2 games.
This isn’t without risk but I like the move, upgrade QB, stabilize QB, possible closure to the Tebow circus. I mean, if they could get a 2nd for Tebow and take Weedon with that pick, that’s a great back-up plan.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:56 PM
I smell a banning.
/Or two.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:56 PM
Tebow gets shifted to slotback or TE.
Hasn’t Tebow come out and said that he’s pretty unwilling to play any position other than QB?
March 19th, 2012 at 12:57 PM
Denver does not play TN, if anyone is interested.
Home: Kansas City Chiefs (7-9)
Oakland Raiders (8-8)
San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Cleveland Browns (4-12)
Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)
Houston Texans (10-6)
New Orleans Saints (13-3)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12)
Away: Kansas City Chiefs (7-9)
Oakland Raiders (8-8)
San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Baltimore Ravens (12-4)
Cincinnati Bengals (9-7)
New England Patriots (13-3)
Atlanta Falcons (10-6)
Carolina Panthers (6-10)

March 19th, 2012 at 12:57 PM
I’m not saying the content needs to change, keep it the exact same (except for that picture post, that needs to be in a slideshow format to work as a concept).
But the background structure of this website is clearly horrific.
March 19th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
Hasn’t Tebow come out and said that he’s pretty unwilling to play any position other than QB?He’ll switch if God tells him to.
/ Amazingly, God looks and talks just like Peyton Manning
March 19th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
It’s gonna be funny when Denver finishes third in the AFC West.
if a Manningless Colts team wins two games after winning 10+ the season before, the Broncos are NOT finishing 3rd* in the AFC West with him.
*unless he’s really hurt

/Jay Feely
March 19th, 2012 at 12:58 PM

March 19th, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Because….
If Tim Tebow is traded to the right team, he does more business for that team than Peyton does in Denver.

they both sucked. both were dolphins. Touch Feely’s wife was hot, so he had that going for him.
interesting…
March 19th, 2012 at 1:00 PM
denver’s roster doesn’t even compare to san francisco’s in talent. big mistake.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Browns, Jags, or Dolphins…what other team needs a QB? Now, would any of those teams give up a 2nd rounder?
I am guessing they keep him, but if he is traded, my guess is a 5th rounder.
/I’ll hedge more later.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Which one’s the kicker?
/Jay Feely
I know, right? Way too many J’s and Fee’s going around the NFL.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:01 PM
What’s funny is I honestly think Tebow could be a top-5 TE in the league, and with Manning he could reach that level with a quickness.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Hilarious – that guy is awful – I’d rather have Alex Smith.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:02 PM
I don’t think they need to trade Tebow, and they definitely shouldn’t take Weedon as a backup. It’d be nice to have a backup that is decent in case Manning gets hurt, but it would be nice if he wasn’t ready to retire the same time Manning was.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:02 PM
The biggest difference between the ’10 and ’11 Colts is the number fo wins and losses. The biggest reason for that difference is 18. Denver has 11-12 wins next year.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:02 PM
it’s funny because as much as peyton’s defense, WR’s and running game were aided by how much he himself impacted the game, so was denver’s.
been beating this drum awhile, but tebow did a lot for denver’s running game and defense. it’s gonna be a shame to not see this develop.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:02 PM
now is the time for tebow to switch positions. h-back, tight end
March 19th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Fair enough, but as a Vandy fan, I’m always reminded of how many UT fans are in Nashville…and all over the state. It would be the perfect marriage of a rabid fan-base getting to see their hero for 2-3 more years. Seriously, how many Titans #18 jerseys would we see around town. But yes, the radio stations would be absurd.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Agree – I’d love to see him give TE a shot. He’d still be a hero to the lemmings – maybe more so.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
You gotta quit reading his twitter feed.
That shit’ll rot your brain.
Breesus is a sports-media masochist though. He hates every part of ESPN, etc., yet can’t help himself from being tortured by its content daily.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
In 7 We Trust, Motherfuckers.
Tripucka’s already come out and said he’s fine with Manning taking it.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:04 PM
I just don’t see why they’d trade him unless they get a 1 or a 2. If people are talking about how he should go to NE and play, couldn’t Denver figure out a similar way to integrate him into the gameplan? Or does his luck only come in full-game stints?
March 19th, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Um… no. Not much in TN is relevant outside TN. Just ask Al Gore.

March 19th, 2012 at 1:06 PM
I will amend my statement…nobody trades for backup QBs who play with little boys penises.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:06 PM
He’s fast enough. big enough and is too much of a gamer not to work on running routes and blocking. I think he’d be so good.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:06 PM
As a Patriots fan wanting reasonably-priced tickets for when Brady comes to Nashville, I was hoping for anywhere but here. Also, I’ve tried to soften on my distaste for the Titans, and I can’t like Peyton Manning under any circumstances. On my most hated Patriots rival of the 90′s is a good place for him to be.. No conflict there.

…which was my intent. I love that song. Another one I sing out loud when walking around the Spgs.
I’m no Marc Cohn/adult contemporary fan, but if you don’t lip sync to Walking in Memphis when it comes on the radio, then you have no soul.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
if you’re with me, you’d consider him a pretty decent QB.
sure, but some team would have to change its offensive philosophy no?
March 19th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Went to Memphis last weekend with the wife to see a couple friends. Good times… I gotta say, I think the music is better on Beale in Memphis, than on Broadway here in Nashville. Certainly more talent on a nightly basis (though Nashville is younger/’hipper’ maybe).
Plus the Nike clearance store is pretty sweet there.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:13 PM
All in on the team and the way they were using him in that context. specifically re: Spencer’s thoughts. But no. Never a Tebow fanboy.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
They went into the playoffs on a losing streak, beat Pittsburgh in OT, and was manhandled by New England, in a game where Tebow looked absolutely amateurish.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
Also… went to the National Civil Rights museum there. It wasn’t very impressive (at least on the outside). I guess the location (at the hotel where MLK Jr. was shot) was some of it, but I was disappointed there wasn’t more there and it wasn’t a bigger deal.

Poor old Jack has been dropping down the list of my preferred choices. Every time I go back to it, something’s just not right. I’ve come to the realization that it’s more hype and advertising than it is a good liquor.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
I think Tebow does a great job going 6 for 20. That’s a bad thing?
/kobe’s 3 for 20

Ya know, WWoS, I was in Memphis/Franklin last week. I am sorry I didn’t offer to buy ya a cold one.
I’m going back in June for a wedding. Offer still stands.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
i did not because when i first heard antonio gates wanted to play football, he was playing football.
but it takes a lot to undo a football players’ instincts. tebow’s been a QB for years at a high level…switching gears would be a huge adjustment, a lot more than just running some routes. and considering the rhetoric a lot of defensive players have been throwing around…he’d have quite the target on his back.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:17 PM

I think it’s a fine liquor, but I’m to the point where I can only do bourbon/Tennessee sour mash, every once in a while. Compared scotch, bourbons are incredibly sugary and have intense caramel flavors. It can be a bit overwhelming. I think this is especially true of Jack because they have the additional step of using sugar maple wood for their charcoal filtering.

MS…man.
I’ve got eclectic musical taste, what can I say.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:18 PM
What have you seen in Kaepernick that you dislike so much?He has a throwing motion only rivaled by Tim Tebow in the awful department. He’ll be an interception machine if he gets in games consistently – DBs would be drooling.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
theyre not even in the playoffs to begin with unless tebow and the attributes he DOES bring to the table were in there. you put a conventional QB on that team and they’re one of the worst in the league. you put a glorified HB back there and you’ve taken away 1/3 of the other offense’s possessions right off the bat. a lot easier to win that way with denver’s roster.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
I’ve beat this drum here before, but Jack Daniel’s is pretty special as a brand. Lynchburg is an awesome place to visit, where all the Jack Daniels sold in the world (allegedly is made). I’m sure they must have a fancy corporate office somewhere, but you can tour the distillery, meet with the master distiller, and it’s just this awesome vibe from a very small town (in a dry county nonetheless) nearly entirely devoted to Tennessee Whiskey. It’s very cool.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
This is unfair to JD. JD is what it is, a national brand of quality reasonably priced whiskey. Sure it’s not going to hold its own against the top shelf stuff, but it’s better than just about every else at its price point.
/I <3 JD
March 19th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
They had to change the offense around to focus on Tebow’s strength because he had SO MANY weaknesses. I doubt they’re going to keep the same offense once they bring in Peyton Manning.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:21 PM
For sure, if you mean Franklin/Nashville and not Memphis (a little far away for that I’d think)
March 19th, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Vodka’s that way for me. I make an extremely nice martini-like drink that I end up using to quench my thirst and knocks me out. But damn they’re good.
Someone on here made the Bulleit rec and I finally tried it – waaay nice. At the top of my daily sip list.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:22 PM

I agree with this statement. Having said that, I think you can find some cheaper bourbons that are as good or even better; Bulleit Bourbon comes to mind.

the river killed jeff buckley, so that’s bad, but i won a bunch of money at the west memphis dog track, so that’s good
March 19th, 2012 at 1:24 PM
The biggest thing I remember about the tour was walking down the street looking for the hotel, turning the corner and the scene looking EXACTLY the way it looks in the history books, minus the people. And of course, taking the tour and winding up on the balcony with the spot being marked. I was also struck by how close the rooming house was to the hotel. I’d like to get back to Memphis one day and tour some of the other spots.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:24 PM
they probably won’t, and yea, tebow had some weaknesses…but it’s not like he brought absolutely nothing to the table.
if, like TBL says, a QB’s gotta win the game, well, tebow and the way he keeps the ball away from the other team, keeps his defense fresh and how impossible he is to defend using a traditional 2-minute defense, he’s got a ton to do with the broncos winning games.
fuck this “he’s got so many weaknesses” thing…that’s such bullshit said by people incapable of coming up with a creative solution.

Vez, comments like these are why I find you entertaining. Borderline non-sequiter, yet just barely on topic enough to be relevant to the conversation. Funny too.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:25 PM
it’s above average. You can mix it with coke, put it on the rocks or drink it neat… it’s all drinkable and you’re not waisting a special drink when mixing or adding ice. very versatile.

That just pushes it off the sweetness charts for me. Can’t do it. But Jack and club soda is delicious on a hot summer day.

Wedding itself is in Memphis, but I plan to stay longer before/after. Plenty of time to drive around the state.
I have in-laws from my first marriage in Franklin. Gorgeous area, and I look forward to going back.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
A lot of people enjoy ice cold Tennessee Honey. I have a few free samples from visits that I haven’t gotten around to trying.

Want to hear something strange? I love JD, but I can’t drink regular bourbons. For my cousin’s bachelor party, we got a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve. Not sure what age, but it was like $90/bottle, so it had to be fairly high. Anyway, I couldn’t even finish the glass.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
you definitely can, anything better than Jack though and you don’t mix it or dilute it as my preferences go.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
Thanks for the rec. If I don’t have to pitch BP tonight, I’ll give it a shot.

One of the best preserved Civil War battlefields around there too if I’m not mistaken. The resident historian used to be a guy named Thomas Y. Cartwright, who is an expert on every detail of the battle of Franklin. I think he has since moved on to other things though.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
What’s Tebow’s whiskey equivalent?
March 19th, 2012 at 1:30 PM
I do a lot of running around Cool Springs/Franklin if I’m not around campus or Percy Warner Park. It’s a great area. Cool Springs was really great because we lived within walking distance of bars. If my wife was working late, I’d take the dog to the patio at PF Chang’s and split a beer with her till my wife could join.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:30 PM

That is a bit strange as Jack has a pretty strong flavor profile. The Pappy you had sounds like it was the 18 year old. I think the 21 year old goes for $120 or something like that.
Bourbon doesn’t really develop a mellower taste over time because the barrel it is housed in is a new barrel with a fresh char to it. It’s not like scotch where the barrel has been used before the the flavor mellows over time as more of the car is consumed.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
. They’re not in the playoffs without the bump Tebow provided early on. They’re not struggling to make the playoffs late in the season if the league hadn’t caught on how to play against him, and he isn’t playing in a mediocre division. Tebow doesn’t look amateurish against New England if he was able to make basic passes once the Pats took his running lanes from him.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:32 PM

Agreed.

Never been there I don’t think. I’ve been to Ft. Negley a few times here in the city, but I always thought the battleground was where the (former) golf course was sitting.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t the ABV% of Jack Daniels been dropping the last ten years? They keep diluting it is my understanding.
I’ve been drinking a lot of Beam Red Stag. Laugh if you must, but that shit is so easy drinking. I don’t need to drink brown liquor that tastes like soap in a middle school bathroom to prove I’m a man, I do that by fucking your mom.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
did you drink it neat?
I’ve never had that bourbon yet, but I know that until i got used to drinking bourbon it had to have ice in it
March 19th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
ms, good call. Definitely need to take the time to check that out.
Better bring a hat, though. Bet it’s hotter than hell there come June. It was in the low 80s last Wednesday in Franklin.

My mistake. Part of the battlefield, especially around Carter House is well-preserved. But you’re right, according to Wikipedia, much of the original battlefield has been lost to the development.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
But most of the teams they played didn’t struggle in stopping that offense…and in the games he started they weren’t dominating TOP as much as I think you’re crediting them for (in the games he started it averaged out to about a 50/50 split and that included them having a 33-26 advantage in the Patriot playoff game)
March 19th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t the ABV% of Jack Daniels been dropping the last ten years? They keep diluting it is my understanding.
You are correct. The ABV has been dropped, if I recall correctly, about every 15-20 years or so.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
Jim Beams Red Stag. gets the job done, not very good overall, deficiencies masked by cherry flavor, too much is a bad thing and questionable sexuality.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
im sorry, but im not going to bury a 2nd year QB because he and his mediocre team looked like shit against a team that eventually would go to the super bowl. im not saying he was good by any stretch…just that there’s something there that the rest of the league isn’t doing and it’s worked.
