NCAA Tournament 2012: Cincinnati vs. Texas, San Diego St. vs. NC State, Creighton vs. Alabama
The Big East and Big XII, round two, tips off the Friday action in the NCAA Tournament. Last night, it was Iowa State beating Connecticut, jumping to an early lead and holding on throughout the game. Then, the ACC’s big day (all five teams play today) begins with the Wolfpack.
#6 Cincinnati vs. #11 Texas, 12:15 in Nashville (CBS): J’Covan Brown and Myck Kabongo versus Cincinnati’s three guards (Cashmere Wright, Dion Dixon and Sean Kilpatrick) should be fun. The battle up front, though, will be key. Texas is thin there after the Wangmene injury, so Clint Chapman needs to stay out of foul trouble.
The Line: Cincinnati by 3. The Pick: I think this one is pretty even, and we saw a Big XII team that was a slight underdog switch that role last night. Texas +3.
#6 San Diego State vs. North Carolina State, 12:40 in Columbus (TruTV). San Diego State is 11-3 in games decided by 5 points or less or in overtime, which explains why Vegas, and most power ratings, are not enamored with the Aztecs’ seed. NC State, meanwhile, let several potentially big victories slip away, notably at Duke. Chase Tapley, the Aztecs’ star guard, will go against a taller set of guards at NC State.
The Line: NC State by 2.5. The Pick: the line has moved even more in favor of the Wolfpack, meaning the 6-seed is a dog. I’ll still go with that movement. NC State -2.5.
#8 Creighton vs. #9 Alabama, 1:40 in Greensboro (TBS). An interesting contrast, as it is Creighton’s shooters versus Alabama’s athletes and defense. The key will probably be the other side of the ball, then, and whether Alabama shoots better than they normally do (28.5% on threes, though they rarely shoot them).
The Line: Alabama by 1.5. The Pick: Doug McDermott and the Blue Jays do just enough. Creighton +1.5

Chance for Gottfried to show his caoching chops. Team came on strong at the end of the season, had a tough loss to UNC in the tourney. They need a big dose of CJ Leslie today.

Planning on taking Duke today in my survivor pool, although I had my eye on Michigan. Anyone know how good Ohio is?
March 16th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
Go Bearcats.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Michigan should win, however, Ohio is better than people give them credit for. I’d stay away. n

It’s horseshit that CBS decided that San Diego State has to play a game at 9:30 in the morning their time. They haven’t played a game at that time all year, they’re used to playing their games 12 hours later in the day, and they could be eliminated even before their TV market has a lunch break.

Texas
San Diego State
Creighton
March 16th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Texas cheerleaders came to play.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
I’m about to buy tickets to the Syracuse and OSU games tomorrow. Woo.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Didn’t Cincy get into a brawl this year? That was awesome. Goooo Bearcats!
March 16th, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Is it just me, or is Seth Davis one of the most insufferable media figures around? He seems like the kind guy that when watching “Animal House” would root for Niedermeyer. Bet he made an excellent hall monitor in middle school.

I believe they did, against Xavier.

Just catching up from the R/U…but I took Urinal Mint’s comment to mean “My GF had a miscarriage/abortion”…and everyone is saying “Congrats on the upcoming child”
Am I wrong on this one?
March 16th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
May your first miscarriage be a masculine miscarriage.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Wow. Yes they did.

I lived in Texas and I have to say after moving the NY I was sorely disappointed by the dramatic reduction in the hot chics per sq mile quotient of my new environment.
I don’t live in New York city but I visit often and it can’t touch the talent you’d find at a Wendy’s in Dallas.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:32 PM
Michigan should win, however, Ohio is better than people give them credit for. I’d stay away.
Thanks man, that’s what I was worried about. I’m gonna stick with Duke.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:32 PM
Is Texas not good this year? They look like shit.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:32 PM
apparently the hoops team didn’t get the memo. typical Rick Barnes.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:35 PM
Agreed. This team could give Carolina fits just as easily as they can take a plane ride home tonight.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:37 PM
They aren’t good. At all. They benefited from beating a few top Big 12 teams a few times and that is how they squeaked in.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Texas on pace to score 8 total points.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:39 PM
texas sucks balls this year. shouldnt be in the tourney.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
Im all in for another referee debacle today. Hopefully they screw Duke
March 16th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Who did they beat that was “top team” exactly? Iowa State? Because Baylor, Mizzou, and Kansas all whupped their ass. They’re in the tournament because it says “Texas” on the front of their jerseys. Outside of beating Iowa State in the Big 12 tourney, did they beat another team in the tourney this year? Maybe K-State?
March 16th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
I definitely disagree. I like Cincy from what I’ve seen, Gates is legit.
/typed this before I checked to see if the game started
March 16th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Cincy should really be up by a lot more.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Rick Barnes salary is $2,000,000.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:43 PM
11:45 in, Texas has 2 points.
1-14 shooting.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:43 PM
VCU, Vandy, LBSU, Cincy, NCSt, Col are other teams I like(d) to cover or outperform their seed.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:45 PM
So Cincy is hoping if they keep Texas to single digits in the first half that people will forget they couldn’t get to 20 in the Big East Champs.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:45 PM
You’re right Cocheese. They only beat Iowa State and Kansas State. As I alluded to they have no business being in the tourney.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:46 PM
the score really is 16-2, right?
March 16th, 2012 at 12:46 PM
There’s a better chance of me nailing Kate Upton today.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:47 PM
At this point, the NCAA wrestling on the other Tv in the bar is more interesting
March 16th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
the score really is 16-2, right?
I know, I feel like I’m watching a December Bowl game right now.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
I prefer “Texas has scored two more points in the first half than I have”
March 16th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
11:45 in, Texas has 2 points.
1-14 shooting.
Bearcat’em. Or claw’em, maybe? Somebody help me out with this. I’ve been trying to get something going on this front since Sunday
March 16th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Silly of Lisk to assume they would score more than 3 points.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
texas has 4 points?
March 16th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
“up by seven safeties”
/forgot who dropped that line… Costas?
March 16th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Now they have 4! I guess he shouldnt have assume Cincy would score more than 10.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
I wonder if Cincy will regret not putting the game far away when they had the chance.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
how can you talk cincy and not mention yates, lisk?
fail.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Nashville would have been a sweet city to have your team’s first/second round games in. More of that, less of this Albuquerque nonsense.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Rick Barnes: getting players into the NBA is job 1.
/he’s failing at that, too
March 16th, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Who?
Gates is legit though… he’s got that ability to come out and punch the other team in the mouth
/literally
March 16th, 2012 at 12:56 PM
nc state/san diego st. game is pretty entertaining so far.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
Vandy
just full court press them and they are finished. it’s as simple as that.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
Go Wolf Pack! Best not go Witchy State on me.
March 16th, 2012 at 12:59 PM
just full court press them and they are finished. it’s as simple as that.
/passes note along to Bo Ryan
March 16th, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Derrick Byars isn’t walking through that door.
March 16th, 2012 at 1:01 PM
/Bo waits 32 seconds
//then misreads the note
March 16th, 2012 at 1:01 PM
This Cincy-UT game is really awful. Cincy should be up by a lot.
March 16th, 2012 at 1:02 PM
i’m so fuckin hungover at work right now. i just want a couch with the tourney games in the background so i can take a nap.
March 16th, 2012 at 1:04 PM
I have been waiting to throw up since 8 am. Well keep you abreast of any new developments.
/Even looking at boobs isn’t helping
//Boss is pouring me a fireball shot…ZEUS why have you forsaken me?
March 16th, 2012 at 1:05 PM
31-17 at the half. That’s bad.
March 16th, 2012 at 1:08 PM
That’s the worst. Wait all damn day, then finally it happens. Then it won’t stop. Leads to dry heaving and bile. Fun stuff. Glad that shit hasn’t happened to me in a long long time.
