NCAA Tournament Game Times and Announcer Schedule
Gus Johnson is no longer around this year for CBS for an “A-HA” Moment during March Madness. We’ll have to settle for Craig Sager’s suits to provide electricity. Kevin Harlan takes his place with the Len Elmore and Reggie Miller pairing.
Jim Nantz, Clark Kellogg, and Steve Kerr will start the proceedings on Tuesday night, then Nantz and Kellogg will predictably head to Greensboro for the North Carolina/Duke Regional. Here are your complete pairings with times (all times listed are Eastern) and Announcer pairings by game location, with the channel where you can find it listed.
I’ll have a break down of some of the more interesting first round Round of 64 pairings (sorry, cannot call it the second round when virtually every team plays their first game) later in the afternoon. Bookmark it, live it, learn it, and enjoy from Delta Devils and Hilltoppers through Jayhawks and Titans.

which one of these guys is the one that says “for the leeeeeeead” on all shots that give the shooting team a chance for the lead, even if there’s 11 minutes left in the first half? I think it’s Tim Brando.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
All I know about Brando is that he uses the phrase ‘the iron unkind’ waaaaaaaay too many times over the course of a broadcast.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:53 AM
I’d much rather have Gus Johnson around than douchy Craig Sager.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Gus Johnson is no longer around this year for CBS
Yeah!
All I know about Brando is that he uses the phrase ‘the iron unkind’ waaaaaaaay too many times over the course of a broadcast.
Brando has about five or six catchphrases that can get tiring. At least he comes prepared to call a game unlike Gus Johnson who is just horrible.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:54 AM
How is Dedes allowed back after botching exciting calls last season?
March 12th, 2012 at 11:54 AM
I totally forgot. Now I’m sad.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Have to work until 3:00 (2:30 if I skip lunch) Thursday & Friday, not as bad as it could’ve been.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:56 AM
Im always sad that Uncle Verne and Raft never get to do the Final Four. heaven forbid you get the better crew instead of the famous Jim douche Nantz
March 12th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
If youre a Gus Johnson hater though, youre not allowed to like Bill Raftery. That guys screams more nonsensical gibberish going into a commercial break than anybody. Gus just gets excited.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
I know Gus has become a the cause célèbre for the internet, but he’s actually painful to listen to unless the game is close as he tries so hard to manufacture excitement when there’s none naturally occurring.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
I am a reserve (on-call) juror both Wednesday and Thursday of this week. I’m hoping I don’t get called in.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Gus gets excited even when the moment doesn’t warrant the exuberance. Raftery does it for shits and giggles…ironic on purpose. gus Johnson just doesn’t know how to do his job properly
March 12th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
Scubasteve, should have made up an excuse in order to get disqualified from duty
March 12th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
As am I. No me gusta.
March 12th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
awesome.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
but he’s actually painful to listen to unless the game is close as he tries so hard to manufacture excitement when there’s none naturally occurring.
he also doesn’t prepare for any of the games he does. he’s awful unless it’s the last few seconds of a game where the underdog has made a huge comeback or is about to pull off the upset, and even that shtick grew old. glad he’s gone.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
If youre a Gus Johnson hater though, youre not allowed to like Bill Raftery. That guys screams more nonsensical gibberish going into a commercial break than anybody.
Raftery actually knows the names of all the players on the court as well as basketball strategy. Gus just has an orgasm on air. Big difference.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
Gus has gone from being overrated to underrated thanks to backlash to the overblown adoration (I blame Bill Simmons for creating it)…the internet is a fascinating thing
I don’t think Gus is a good football announcer but then again neither is Marv Albert…when he does CBB it’s pretty good
March 12th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
Gus is play by play. Raftery is there for color. That’s not to say Raftery should get a pass, but Gus should be a professional. fuck him.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
He’s terrible, actually. His style lends itself to constant action. There is so much down time in a football game that you need to be smoother as a PxP man in my opinion. In basketball you can rely on the action itself more times than not.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
the internet is a fascinating thing
wave of the future
March 12th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
You know who really sucks. Brent Musberger. Fuck that guy.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Pretty much.. people want him dead at this point
March 12th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
He’s terrible, actually. His style lends itself to constant action.
he’s good at low rent cage fighting, where every time one guy touches another guy’s arm, he could potentially snap it (and you can start screaming Americana or some other jujitsu shit immediately)
I don’t like him in sports I watch.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
I don’t think Gus is a good football announcer
He’s terrible, actually.
I think this has more to do with him not seeming to prepare for any of the games he does. Or if he does he does a lousy job. The loud shouting he likes to do is his way of covering that up. I was done with him last year during the BYU/Florida game (i think) when he asked reggie miller if one of the teams should foul in a tie game with a few seconds left.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
Brent Musberger with Herbie on football? Tolerable. Brent with Bob Knight on big 12 games? Downright horrendous..both of them.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
clark kellog is horrible too.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
he also doesn’t prepare for any of the games he does. he’s awful unless it’s the last few seconds of a game where the underdog has made a huge comeback or is about to pull off the upset, and even that shtick grew old. glad he’s gone
agreed.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Disagree. Gus knows exactly how to do his job, as does Raferty, you just don’t like Gus’ style, which is fine. I do. But he’s very self aware.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
You know you suck at your job when the Knicks don’t even want you as their radio broadcaster anymore.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
I think they are way more than tolerable, and I think both are probably terrible people to hang out with on their own. They do a great job calling games for CFB in my opinion.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
I think this has more to do with him not seeming to prepare for any of the games he does.
if you mention this one more time, do you get a free sandwich or something?
March 12th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
This is probably why I like him in college basketball, a sports I care little about until the start of the tournament and until my bracket is busted. There’s nothing worse than being at the bar on Friday afternoon and all the games are snoozers. He would liven things up a little.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
Disagree. Gus knows exactly how to do his job, as does Raferty, you just don’t like Gus’ style, which is fine. I do. But he’s very self aware.
did you just call us all racists?
March 12th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
do you guys mainly care about the announcers to piss on the bad ones? i don;t see how TV announcers matter that much, unless you treat the Tv like a radio, doing stuff round the house. go with your eyes…action and graphics baby
that said, i don’t care about bad announcers unless it really detracts, but i do enjoy the ones i like such as raftery, fratello, hubie, stacy king. what can i say, i like over the top shtick and new yawk accents
March 12th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
Jose, gus’s knows how to do his job incorrectly. He makes himself more important than the game. Guys like Dan Shulman, Brad Nessler, and Mike Breen are examples of doing your job as a broadcaster in the correct manner
March 12th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
until my bracket is busted.
this is year 8 for me with no brackets at all. I like it way better this way.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Don’t know about you guys, but I usually watch the first few rounds at a bar, and could give a shit who the announcers are. Just make sure that the waitress jiggles in all the right places and my Sam Adams are never empty.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
I liked Brent and Steve Lavin on CBB. Bobby Knight is terrible though. Probably because he doesn’t prepare for the games.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Vez, i didn’t think you would like Stacy King. I know SC loves him on tv.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
I want Bill Raftery all day every day.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
i don;t see how TV announcers matter that much, unless you treat the Tv like a radio, doing stuff round the house. go with your eyes…action and graphics bab
that’s all fine and dandy until somebody fucks up telling you who the foul got called on, and then you aren’t sure if one guy’s got 4 fouls or not. It’s not like the show you the ref while he’s telling the scorer.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
COULDN’T!! COULDN’T GOD DAMMIT!
March 12th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
i like your style.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
God bless you, I dont know how you do it. The lure of the bracket for me is like a shirtless Ryan Gosling.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
this is year 8 for me with no brackets at all. I like it way better this way.
i like your style.
If you’re filling out brackets for large sums of money, not just going straight chalk and picking a bunch of upsets seems unwise.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Hey CJ, is Maine still alive in the hockey playoffs? I havent paid as much attention to college hockey this year
March 12th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Knight doesn’t do enough research on the individual players, but he’s excellent if you want to learn some things about basketball while watching the game.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
I try to keep it to just one….otherwise you’re the guy that plays in 8 fantasy leagues and has everyone doing something and the people you are sitting with are just tired of hearing about it.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
+1, except make that Yuengling.
\Buncha moneybags up in here.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
I don’t like Gus for football until the end of games, though.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Yeah they are in the final 4 of the Hockey East playoffs, friday they play BU and the winner moves on to play the winner of BC/Providence. Maine was ranked 10th in the nation at the end of the regular season so no matter what happens this weekend they should make the national tournament.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Gus is at his worst for MMA. luckily, I don’t think he is allowed to do it any more.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Ah fuck. I hate grammar errors too.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
TBL sent out a tweet yesterday saying he does 10 brackets. That’s the most TBL thing imaginable, actually.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Team No-Look Bracket Clicking
March 12th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
Any luck, and I’ll be watching in a bar on Thursday and Friday nights and won’t care who is announcing the games.
/love this time of year
March 12th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
Ironically, I thought he was white for a long time.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
I’m using a dart board this year to do my brackets.
Can’t be any worse than people alleging to know each and every team in this tournament.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
Ironically, I thought he was white for a long time.
Ha. I wonder what Gus is like in a crowded movie theater.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
the most TBL thing imaginable would be him filling out 10 brackets and then watching gossip girl DVR’s instead of the games and then write a post shitting on golf.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
I feel like a kid who found out Santa was fake at this time of the year lately. I just can’t get into the tournament like I used to.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
They should jsut give him a half-hour (or hour) of chalk talk every Saturday morning during the season. He’s obviously a brilliant guy who wants nothing to do with the teams that are playing.
Other guys who you learn from (not necessarily great (or even good) announcers):
Bob Davie
Gruden
?
March 12th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
DOWN GOES THE TITANIC! RISE AND FIYAAH
March 12th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Touche.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
Vez, i didn’t think you would like Stacy King. I know SC loves him on tv.
i only hear his soundbites, because i rarely watch hoops
March 12th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
the most TBL thing imaginable would be him filling out 10 brackets and then watching gossip girl DVR’s instead of the games and then write a post shitting on golf.
Touche.
needs more Ryan Braun is a fraudy mcfrauderson and Lin is an MVP candidate.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
I’ve heard him on podcasts and interviews where his intonation and inflection changes just slightly but it’s a huge difference to how black he sounds to me. But then again I have a “white voice” and my regular voice too.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
One thing we can all agree on….thank god the coverage has expanded in regards to actually showing the games. Nothing worse than having a nail bitter get booted for the 1 vs 16 match up because it just happens to be the local game. Fuck that noise.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:19 PM
For me, it comes down to whether or not my work load, both at work and at home, allows me to follow the first round games.
This year, I’m good to go.
Last year, I couldn’t and I was kinda bitter.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:19 PM
memphis over MSU in the second round seems like the upset everyone is picking this year that will never happen.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:19 PM
that’s all fine and dandy until somebody fucks up telling you who the foul got called on, and then you aren’t sure if one guy’s got 4 fouls or not.
ok, and then what? hair pulling? gnashing of teeth?
i’ll be in multiple pools but same bracket. so, i feel good about not hedging and have multiple chances to win*
*yeah right
March 12th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
Good point. I remember always getting the Duke vs some shitty school game while a 5-12 match-up was going on. That shit always pissed me off.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
Off Thursday and Friday. Going to first round games in Louisville. May pass on the morning session because it’s Murray St vs. Colorado St. and Marquette vs. BYU/Iona. Anybody know if alcohol will be served? I know that it is at the Yum Center for all Louisville home games. Wasn’t sure about the Tourney though.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
I heard Kevin Harlan scream “through the torture chamber!” as some guy got an and 1 yesterday. I love that guy.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
This cannot be disputed. Kevin Harlan is the best.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Probably see better basketball there than with a 1-16 game and two mediocre power conference teams later in the day
March 12th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
It was always KU here. I mean…if we miss the first 3 minutes of your blowout it’s gonna fucking matter? If anyone was to call the CBS affiliate and bitch about that, they should be liquidated. Homer fans are the fucking WORST.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
this is year 8 for me with no brackets at all. I like it way better this way.
but this year you could have vermont ftmfw!
March 12th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Memphis lose to St Louis.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
They should jsut give him a half-hour (or hour) of chalk talk every Saturday morning during the season. He’s obviously a brilliant guy who wants nothing to do with the teams that are playing.
i heard this morning that he won;t say ‘kentucky’….is that right? like ‘that school up north’?
March 12th, 2012 at 12:30 PM
But then again I have a “white voice” and my regular voice too.
we’re not gonna fall for that banana in the tailpipe trick either
March 12th, 2012 at 12:36 PM
Vez, correct. Bob Knight is still a petty bastard.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Memphis lose to St Louis.
I wouldn’t either. Tough draw for Memphis. Should have been a 5 or 6 seed, now has to play a pretty good team in the first game, then a 1-seed. Whoever comes out of that pairing could go to the final four.
March 12th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
I know Gus will be missed for March, but I love him on Showtime doing boxing. He was going apeshit during Salido-Lopez II this weekend.
March 12th, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Now that Gus is on the BTN, I can’t escape him. He doesn’t do his homework with names and teams and his manufactured excitement has become VERY old.
/team anti-gus
