Has Peyton Manning Looked at How Hard Denver’s Schedule is in 2012?
Peyton Manning will be talking to the Titans and Dolphins in coming days (but not the Chiefs and Seahawks, apparently), and according to the frothy media, Denver is the leader.
Hey Peyton, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you just how brutal Denver’s 1st place schedule is next year:
* non-conference road games: at Baltimore, Cincinnati, New England, Atlanta, Carolina.
* Of their eight road games, only two are against sub-.500 teams (Carolina and Kansas City). One team has Cam Newton, the other was beset by injuries last year, and should be much-improved.
* The non-conference home schedule isn’t as daunting (Cleveland and Tampa are bad), but does include the Saints, Steelers and Texans, all Top 10 teams.
The AFC West is pretty putrid, and even with Peyton Manning, I’m not sure 10 wins is possible. Good thing Tebow isn’t going to be the starter. He’d be lucky to lead them to six wins against that group.

With Peyton Denver wins 3 of those games, maybe 4. Atlanta is going to be 8-8 next year at best, Cincy still has Dalton at QB and Carolina will still be pure trash.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:49 PM
He’s an MVP, Super Bowl winning QB…I doubt he thinks about SOS the same way we do.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:50 PM
This team beat the Steelers with Tim Fucking Tebow. Just think what they could do with an actual QB taking the snaps.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:50 PM
This seems to overlook that Peyton Manning is really really good at football…I bet they’d make it work
March 12th, 2012 at 4:51 PM
The AFC West is pretty putrid, and even with Peyton Manning, I’m not sure 10 wins is possible.
This confuses me. They can’t win 10 with a healthy Peyton? And possibly Reggie?
March 12th, 2012 at 4:52 PM
No, because it doesn’t matter. At all.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:52 PM
Who is going to run the ball for Denver next season?
March 12th, 2012 at 4:52 PM
This. I was thinking the same thing. He might be the best to ever play the position and doubt he gives a shit who is on his schedule next year.
/Still thinks Arizona is a better fit for Manning
March 12th, 2012 at 4:53 PM
He’d be better off playing for the Fins. Two games against the declining Jets, Pats and Bills is much easier than the AFC West.

Agreed offensively, but I think the Broncos as a team would be a better chance for him to win the SB.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:54 PM
Somebody is trying to compensate for the fact that his team is stuck with Sanchez.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:54 PM
The only real hangup with Miami could be the fear of a rookie head coach…otherwise I think they have the most pieces outside of quarterback, they were playing good ball with Matt Moore at the end of the season
March 12th, 2012 at 4:55 PM
Might as well scratch Ike Taylor for that week, then.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:55 PM
The only real hangup with Miami could be the fear of a rookie head coach…
Manning has been around a while. He shouldn’t be considered a rookie anymore.
/Because it instantly becomes his team
March 12th, 2012 at 4:56 PM
and the steelers have been ravaged by the cap since then, likely to lose Mike Wallace as well.
Saints could be hamstrung by suspensions if they play early in the season.
Atlanta is in a dome
and do you really think teams are going to get within 5 feet of touching Manning w/o a flag this season?
March 12th, 2012 at 4:56 PM
He’d be better off playing for the Fins. Two games against the declining Jets, Pats and Bills is much easier than the AFC West.
Which team ended Montanas and Farves career? Hint: it’s the same team.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:56 PM
Also: John Fox got to a Super Bowl with Jake Delhomme as quarterback.
With Denver’s defense, that horrid division, and Peyton, I don’t think this matters one bit.
Is all I took away from this post.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
I hope dough boy starts to get the Manning/Brees/Brady protection treatment this year.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:58 PM
I have a feeling Peyton wants at least Reggie Wayne brought whereever he goes, and Miami would be good to listen to that request since reports said Manning doesn’t want to play with Brandon Marshall.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:58 PM
You mean Ryan Clark?
He’ll be a Steeler next year. They are ~$11 million under the cap and just got more room thanks to the cheating Redskins and Cowboys.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:59 PM
Ummm… hasn’t the NFL shown us over the years that it’s silly to predict a schedule’s strength before the season? Was not shocked to see McTibble authored a post with this headline.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:59 PM
How did they get more with those teams getting in trouble?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:00 PM
Shit like this is laughable, no, he doesnt give a shit who they play.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:00 PM
Nope. Because Clark can’t play in Denver might as well not play Ike’s showboating ass either.
/Team fuck Ike Taylor
March 12th, 2012 at 5:00 PM
Saints have to forfeit vs. DEN as part of the bounty program penalty.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:01 PM
Love how 2 of his 4 bullet points (RESEARCH! YEAH!)detail easy portions of the Broncos schedule.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:01 PM
“Nope.” – Peyton Manning
March 12th, 2012 at 5:01 PM
Think it’s like 1.6 million more.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:02 PM
i’m not convinced they will be able to retain him if a club offers $10 million per year and still sign their draft picks and free agent depth.
don’t forget, Rams need a receiver and have a shit load of 1st rounders to spare now.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:02 PM
I found that a bit odd as well. It’s almost as though in the middle of writing this post he realized that maybe his schedule isn’t so bad.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:02 PM
My bad, the last paragraph was not a bullet point. Make that 2 of 3. ha.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:02 PM
How did they get more with those teams getting in trouble?
The cap room they lose is evenly distributed to the other teams
March 12th, 2012 at 5:02 PM
Husker, the savings from the cap penalties are being spread out to the 28 other teams to appease the NFLPA. ~$1.6 million for every team but Dallas, Washington, NO and Oak (latter two had minor infractions).
March 12th, 2012 at 5:02 PM
So every team got a bump because of the ruling?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:03 PM
Yea, Arizona also has major questions at left tackle. I think i’ll take Ryan Clady guarding my spinal fused neck if I were Peyton.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:03 PM
And that would be the end of Mike Wallace’s career.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:03 PM
Nice.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:04 PM
If I’m Peyton I’d much rather play the Steelers and Ravens aging defenses than the Niners twice a year.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:04 PM
Oh, now I see what you mean. He definitely had a shitty game that day.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:05 PM
James Harrison and T-Sizzle 4 times total or SF twice?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:05 PM
i don’t care what happens to him as long as the steelers don’t keep him.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:06 PM
Which team ended Montanas and Farves career? Hint: it’s the same team
Bears bounced Hillbilly Red off the frozen tundra of U of Minn and he never came back.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:06 PM
hey Buffalo, overspend for Mike Wallace..please!
March 12th, 2012 at 5:07 PM
A) Nobody is going to offer a contract with a cap # > $9 million.
B) if they do they have to give up their original 1st rounder, which the Rams already gave away. But say the Browns signed him. It’d cost the #4 pick, not #22.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:07 PM
whenever i see T-Sizzle i instantly think of his reaction to Baltimore’s missed FG.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:08 PM
Go to the Texans Peyton! Trade Schaub for a couple middle round picks.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:10 PM
Sweet Fancy Moses! Alabama and Mississippi are still retarded
/to the surprise of nobody
March 12th, 2012 at 5:12 PM
ATL – that article could be written about many rural areas across upstate NY
March 12th, 2012 at 5:14 PM
so you think there’s not 1 team out there that would be willing to put that contract in front of Wallace and hand over a 1st round pick?
The redskins just gave up 3 first round picks for an untested QB.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:14 PM
Cutting old, overpaid, no longer productive players doesn’t really count as ravaged. At least in the Steelers/Big Ben definition of ravaging.
Methinks Peyton isn’t scared to play good teams, what with all those MVP trophies and all.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:15 PM
ATL – that article could be written about many rural areas across upstate NY
All right, don’t go there. It’s inbred, not retarded.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:16 PM
if Buffalo had a GM that wasn’t an old country bumpkin and a wise, younger owner, they would pay that for Wallace. Bills need a deep threat. Stevie Johnson is a slasher/ball-dropper.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:18 PM
I live up here in upstate NY and have for 23 years. i’ve seen many people who are more redneck and assbackwards than people I met while working in Kentucky
March 12th, 2012 at 5:20 PM
my point exactly.
and what did the Falcons pay last year for the pick to get Julio Jones? a contract and a 1st rounder is a steal for a player like Wallace.
Or Brown next season for that matter.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:22 PM
In other words, 2012 may see the NFL’s first 5-11 division winner?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:23 PM
No there isn’t. Nobody is going to give up a top 15 pick for him (though he is worth it) nor do have the cap room to sign him to a large enough contract. If they do, then they have to wait about a week in limbo while the Steelers can decide to match it.
Find one team that will. I’ll hang up and listen.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:25 PM
man, LOTS of folks think Manning is going to join a new team and dominate.
he’s 36 this month.
hasn’t played in a year. doesn’t know his teammates at all.
Broncos had a suspect line.
Great idea: I’ll try to get Lisk to find high-profile FA QBs who, after 35, went to a new team and thrived. will be tough to factor in the injury aspect.
to think he’s going to be the old peyton is laughable
March 12th, 2012 at 5:25 PM
I live up here in upstate NY and have for 23 years. i’ve seen many people who are more redneck and assbackwards than people I met while working in Kentucky
We’ve done this before I think. You’re in the Lisbon area right?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:27 PM
I witnessed that entire season. Jake actually played well 99 percent of that season. It was two seasons later that he really went apeshit catatonic as a QB.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:28 PM
to think he’s going to be the old peyton is laughable
I’d take old Peyton (considering health) over young Sanchez.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:29 PM
Hmmm … the names “Favre” and “Vikings” come to mind. He did take them to within one brainfart pass of the Super Bowl that season.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:30 PM
I think the list is Kurt Warner and Brett Favre. They had pretty good success with the Cards and Vikes.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:31 PM
doesn’t have to be a top 15, buddy. just has to be 1st round. Baltimore, New England, Denver, Chicago would be teams off the top of my head that have a need at WR. And if the Broncos sign Manning, they have the motivation and the cap space to offer that kind of contract.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:31 PM
If Peyton is healthy, big if, and he hasn’t taken a bump in well over a year, someone is going to get a great QB for a couple of years.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:32 PM
No, no, no. The point I think a lot of people are making is that strength of schedule is not a great thing to look at as a predictor of future success AND you managed to contradict yourself throughout.
Also, because something has only happened a few times it will inherently make a poor comparison so you can stow the Montana/Favre/Warner/etc. comparisons, though I think some of them did better than you seem to remember.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:34 PM
to think he’s going to be the old peyton is laughable
TBL revisionist history.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:34 PM
Also, unless I’m mistaken, more of those teams ARE conference opponents than not. Perhaps non-division games?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:39 PM
you know, it’s not like we’re talking about your average 35 year old QB here. I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Peyton was above and beyond average in his career, even if he regresses a bit, you’re getting one of the smartest QB’s in the game.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:41 PM
Don’t call me buddy, pal.
The teams you listed could do it, but they won’t in reality.
-NE has 9 million wrapped up in Welker already, and would not want to pay a WR more than him, plus have > $18 million wrapped up in 2 players for the next few years.
-Balt has a poor mans Wallace in Torry Smith, little cap room and are very unwilling to give up a 1st
-Chicago doesn’t give up draft picks and just got a more run oriented OC
-Denver is signing Manning with its cap room, but could if they are willing to lock up $10 million in cap room for a week while other FA sign and give up a first. I think they’d rather make an offer to V-Jax and keep their 1st.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:41 PM
Good lord, when JDiddy’s ‘oh yeah, well look at this…’ comment inside a retarded post is getting beaten on, perhaps it’s better to just move on.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:43 PM
Not to take anything away from how scary neck injuries can be, Peyton wasn’t exactly a health concern before last season. Hadn’t missed a game prior to 2011.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:44 PM
Good lord, when JDiddy’s ‘oh yeah, well look at this…’ comment inside a retarded post is getting beaten on, perhaps it’s better to just move on.
I tried to be nicer. But yeah, right.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:45 PM
Wait, what? They gave up some pressures this year, but that had a lot to do with a QB who likes to spin in little semicircles.
They also led the league in rushing.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:46 PM
didn’t he also win his super bowl with the injury and didn’t see any dip in stats with the injury?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:54 PM
The Bears have nothing at WR.
They will get WR for their QB who carried the team last year.
Mike Tice will do what he’s told, he’s not John Fox.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:59 PM
That sounds so, so precious, like a little ballet pirouette. And then he does a little kneely-prayee thing afterward.
Precious memories!

Here we go again with this first place schedule talk. It’s two games guys, that’s all. Plus so much changes from year to year nowadays. He’s going to make a decision even before free agency and the draft, not to mention camps and those late cuts that by themselves are more valuable than “Plan B” ever was.
March 19th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Its funny that football people like Elway, Fox, Peyton, etc don’t take Tebow seriously…like even a little.
I’m interested in seeing which team thinks Tebow can work & trades for him.
