Canadian Skier Nick Zoricic Dies Following Skicross Crash
Nick Zoricic died today as a result of “severe neurotrauma” suffered in a crash during a International Ski Federation World Cup skicross event in Switzerland. From AP/ABC News:
The 29-year-old Zoricic crashed directly into safety nets lining the side of the course after going wide over the final jump. Television showed Zoricic tumbling through the nets as his skis and poles were thrown clear.
The Zoricic is the second Canadian skier to die this year. Sarah Burke died in January from injuries sustained in a training crash.
Here’s the video of Zoricic’s crash. It doesn’t look different from any number of skiing crashes on YouTube, a testament to just how dangerous this sport can be.

This has that Dale Earnhardt, Sr vibe to it. Doesn’t look nearly as bad as it was. Curious if he hit the base of a catch net pole flush, where there would be no flexibility.
