Ole Miss Offered Football Scholarship to Best Friend in Bid to Lure Nation’s Top Recruit
When you befriend the Nation’s No. 1 overall recruit, good things happen to you. Ole Miss wants to land top-rated defensive end Robert Nkemdiche badly. So badly, in fact, the Rebels have offered his teammate and best friend, cornerback David Kamara, a scholarship to play alongside him.
Nkemdiche was excited.
“Yes, I like it a lot, and Ole Miss has a great chance of getting both of us to sign there,” Nkemdiche told the AJC on Wednesday. “My brother is at Ole Miss, and now David can go with me … that’s a big, big, big, big, big plus for Ole Miss. I’m really happy about all of this.”
It’s not clear whether Kamara can play at SEC speed. He has not been rated yet by the national recruiting services. The two are hoping for a similar offer from Clemson and plan to visit LSU, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Alabama. Though Ole Miss may have the inside track, as Nkemdiche’s older brother Denzel is a safety at Ole Miss.

It’s a pretty common practice.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:13 PM
They’re going after him hardcore. They took his shitty brother last year and now they’ve offered his best friend. Good for Freeze. Now, having said that, this kid is either going to Bama (90%) or UGA (5%) or Ole Miss (5%).
Before we go all nuts about this cat, I think there’s a good chance this dude will be ranked higher when it’s all said and done.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:14 PM
Miami is going to return to glory once they hire Todd Charske to lure all the kids back to Coral Gables.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:14 PM
Also, a word of advice Duffy. Avoid the AJC recruiting guy if you can. He’s terrible at his job and is a massive troll.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:14 PM
How is that name pronounced? Char-ski?
March 8th, 2012 at 4:17 PM
The Charske meme died out with me when we found out it has already been done. Totally lost it’s luster.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:17 PM
SEC! SEC!
Come with your best friend, leave with no degree!
March 8th, 2012 at 4:18 PM
“You [recruit] to win the game.”
Also, Todd Charske will only work for Jim Tressel. Loyalty is Todd’s code.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:20 PM
Yeah, that kind of stuff happens a lot.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:21 PM
UGA did this with Crowell, but it seems to have worked out as his best friend is a monster on special teams.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:22 PM
pryor’s BFF was jordan hall…pretty damn good returner, decent RB for the bucks. that worked out nicely.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:24 PM
Auburn did it to get Dyer, it happens all over the place. typical ole piss here, years late to the party and will still manage to fuck it up.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:24 PM
typical ole piss.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:25 PM
The 2012 senior class may disagree.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:25 PM
dammit, man. beat me by a few seconds.
+1 for good thinkin’, though.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:26 PM
we’ve adopted urban’s mantra…move on, who cares, get out of the way, 4.5 second football team, intensity in ten cities, heart attacks, fried food, bring it.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:27 PM
I’m so confused.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:27 PM
UW signed Shaq Thompson’s best friend last year, then Shaq followed in 2012. Well, his best friend was James Sample, a 4* safety in his own right, but still.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:28 PM
intensity. short sentences. firing words. very punctual. 4.5 seconds.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:29 PM
/high five!
//ack!
///urbantonio’d

How much does this have in common with your approach to sex?
March 8th, 2012 at 4:30 PM
Hopefully Washington can stop sucking sometime soon to provide a 4th team with a pulse in that god-forsaken league. Oregon, USC, Stanford and….and…..and…..no one.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:30 PM
One of the Auburn recruits from this year, I think Jacquay Williams or whatever his name is, was asked what the craziest part about recruiting was. He answered that in the week leading up to signing day, a bunch of other schools (he was already committed to Auburn) started offering his best friends scholarships. Not sure if they were football players or not.
Saban takes this to the extreme…allegedly…where your girlfriend gets an internship, your mama gets a job in Birmingham, etc.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:31 PM
Ignore this:
Google test: Todd Charske
March 8th, 2012 at 4:31 PM
far too much.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:31 PM
Probably looking at another 7-8 win year this season. 2013 is the year we’ll take a big step forward.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:32 PM
Does he offer $180,000, because that would probably do the trick.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:33 PM
They have a tough schedule next year, so that makes sense. There’s no reason Washington shouldn’t compete with Oregon. USC will always be the top dog, but Washington should be right behind them alongside Oregon.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:35 PM
Sounds like a Michigan tactic.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:36 PM
Competitive excellence.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:36 PM
It’s hard to be alongside a team like Oregon though when your defense gives up 450 yards to 1-AA teams. Thank god Holt is gone.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:36 PM
Hey now, hitting below the belt. I like it.
/Roll Tide.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:37 PM
USC will always be the top dog, but Washington should be right behind them alongside Oregon.
They’re overhauling their stadium too. Looks like a sweet place to watch a game.
/longs for UW/UW home and home
//gets stuck watching UW beat up on UNLV for the 8th time in 10 years instead
///long sigh
March 8th, 2012 at 4:38 PM
They’re having an amazing start to their recruiting season. The gap that OSU and Mich is about to open up with the rest of the Big10 will be amazing to watch unfold. Mich St’s rise as of late has a lot to do with Mich being inept. I see MSU, Wiksy and NEB being in that second tier of B10 teams until Penn State gets their shit right to join them.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:38 PM
Don’t forget the carousel of thousand dollar suits and Escalades.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:39 PM
He was an abortion for sure. I blame Holt for leading me to believe that Taylor Martinez was going to be a dynamic player. Fucker.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:39 PM
better enjoy it because they’re gonna SUCK next year. alabama might stretch that ass out for life, son.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:39 PM
Syracuse 58-55 over UConn. Can we officially move past UConn making the tourney?!?! They don’t deserve to be in it! 20-13 and 2 games below .500 in their league. I dont give a shit if they’re the defending champs or what their record was when their HC was out of action.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:40 PM
Ole Miss signed a kid this year, Channing Ward, who was considered a heavy Auburn lean at one point. OM’s advantage was that Ward’s brother was already on the team as a walk-on, and magically he now has a scholarship, too. Can’t fault the family – now two of their kids go to school for free.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:40 PM
Very true. But they may run into the same problem that has plagued Texas according to Mack Brown. Recruiting way to early only to have those players not turn out to be the talent they were expecting a year prior.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:40 PM
2017 and 2018, brother.

And the sustained winning.

March 8th, 2012 at 4:42 PM
They have Boise in 2013/14. Sweet.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:42 PM
2017 and 2018, brother.
!!!
/Books trip to Seattle 6 years in advance
Forgive me, I’m so used to the non-conference cupcake schedule, I never bothered to look ahead.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:44 PM
Remember, that deal the Pac-12 and Big-10 have to schedule each other 1 game a year is coming.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:46 PM
Oregon-Nebraska would be sweet.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:47 PM
ohio state vs. USC again!
March 8th, 2012 at 4:48 PM
Only after Barkley is gone in 2013.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:48 PM
Be honest, you don’t want to go 0-2 again. More like, OSU-UCLA!! That would be an epic ass beating each time that you’d enjoy.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:48 PM
They’re slipping. Its cheaper to let SJ lead the walk through the Grove.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:49 PM
Yeah, some teams it doesn’t really effect, Like USC and Ohio State. Washington has scheduled Ohio State, Michigan and Nebraska, and has Illinois and Wisconsin lined up
March 8th, 2012 at 4:49 PM
urban vs. kiffykins? urbz has the advantage.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:49 PM
Neb-Oregon
Wiksy-Wash
Mich-USC
Ohio State-UCLA
Penn State-Stanford
Michigan State-Cal
March 8th, 2012 at 4:50 PM
Not in talent on the field.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:52 PM
Would be so much fun.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:53 PM
I’ll be interested to see how well Urban does with national recruits. I think after OSU plays Cal the next couple years. They play Oklahoma the next two after that.
Urban VS Stoops!
March 8th, 2012 at 4:53 PM
im confused. USC has more scholly reductions than OSU, urban’s a better recruiter, but USC will have more talent on the field in the future?
my head is spinning.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:54 PM
Cali talent >> Ohio talent
March 8th, 2012 at 4:55 PM
talent = talent wherever it’s from.
you’re worse than rush limbaugh sometimes.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:55 PM
I’m done with the PAC-12 for non-conference. We lose every time we step into the state of Arizona.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:56 PM
Games I’d love to see (not just next year)
Texas-UGA
LSU-USC
Florida-Oregon
Nebraska-Miami
Ohio State-Auburn
March 8th, 2012 at 4:56 PM
You and I both know kids from sloHio aren’t all that.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
I’d love to see the SEC and all of its fans get exiled to Manitoba but it’s just not in the cards.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
I laughed
March 8th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
Michigan sucks, OSU rulez. got it.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
Please. You know you loved your stay in Athens.
March 8th, 2012 at 4:57 PM
I don’t think anyone has ever said this before in the history of football.
March 8th, 2012 at 5:05 PM
Sad thing is they can say the same thing about the state of Minnesota.
March 8th, 2012 at 5:07 PM
Well this is a fucking joke.
March 8th, 2012 at 5:10 PM
To be fair, wasn’t it work study job in the athletic department?
March 8th, 2012 at 11:05 PM
Why is this news? You should focus on the Cam Newton type deal he will get.
This is nothing.
