I think his dad was a superintendent of a school for awhile — Simmons went to a prep school and Holy Cross, not exactly coming from the poor house.

Also, he would have bought those seats originally in the 1970s when they weren’t expensive…wasn’t really till late 1980s/MJ era where sitting in lower deck at an NBA game was a social event and the tickets became outrageous.

He explains how his dad got the seats in Book of Basketball. I don’t really remember the story though.

Essentially, they were very very cheap in like 1973 or so, and he kept getting grandfathered in to better seats. The price kept going up, too, but his dad kept paying it.
