This article explains very clearly why the overnight ratings system is crap. The reality shows are always higher-rated, but it doesn’t mean that they have more viewers. It means that they watch American Idol and DVR the scripted sitcom or drama. Because you have to watch the reality show live since all your friends and websites will provide all the spoilers the next morning. You can go 2 weeks without watching a sitcom and you can still not know what happened.
I wish TV executives would keep this in mind when they cancel more scripted television and replace it with more reality shows.

I enjoy the part of the show where they successfully lull me into semi boredom and then BOOM! Disembowelment!
March 5th, 2012 at 8:18 AM
No kidding. I can’t imagine just not having any knowledge of where the fuck my kid is during a time like that.

It’s like the Walking Dead writers have one good idea per show, and the rest is filler.

That’s the “best” photo of Katy you could come up with???
I like it. Her hair is blue thought and that’s distracting. I think it was fashion week in Paris so if you check any of the main euro news sites they’ve been littered with stars in semi-crazy semi-hot outfits.

I get what they’re trying to do with this whole staying on the farm thing (it makes the most sense for them to be there, and in the same situation, I would also stay on the farm), but I sort of wish they never found the damn place and were still out on the road. Needs more zombies.
March 5th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
At any given moment in the day, neither of them has any idea where he is. That is completely unbelievable.

Happy Endings has been way funnier than Modern Family this season.

TBL had a great tweet yesterday — something like “Who cares if Tiger shot a 62 is some irrelevant tourmanemnt. Tell me when he does it in a major” — I’m paraphrasing.
March 5th, 2012 at 8:40 AM
It’s Sara Ganim of the Patriot-News, but OK.
Also, this is a good read about how antiquated the Neilsens are. CBS has 19 of the top 25 shows on television, and almost every one is a shitty police procedural or laugh track sitcom.

I’ve been writing a story about an animal control officer. In my research I’ve read some crazy depressing stuff. My dad was a fireman/paramedic he said it was not uncommon for some animals to take a bite at a dead person but this meant immediate destruction.

Considering NO ONE has ever shot a 62 in a major…oh, never mind, it’s pointless.
I thought his performance was very relevant — great field, strong leaderboard, very hard course (though if I heard “The Bear Trap” again I would have killed Johnny Miller) — classic TBL really. It almost prompted me to respond and I never do that.

Considering NO ONE has ever shot a 62 in a major…oh, never mind, it’s pointless.

The core demographic is much smaller than Modern Family. But that’s okay because advertisers love that demographic because teenagers spend their daddy’s money on lots of shit and they have zero idea what they want until they see it in an advertisement.
March 5th, 2012 at 8:49 AM
Rex – usually, I’m just looking for new photos, not necessarily the “best” ever.
March 5th, 2012 at 8:49 AM
It would not. The show skewed 18-24 heavily in its prime years. Not a major diff, but a diff nonetheless. As far as I am concerned, if you are a parent of a 12 or 13 year old girl, and you are letting them watch GG, you are failing as a parent. It could not be less appropriate for girls that age.

[Spoiler] Other than Dale giving his speech in the house about the prisoner and Dale getting his stomach ripped open (amazing how the zombie that got him was able to a) sneak up on him and b) tear him open when Lori escapes a double attack unscathed) what could you possibly enjoy about the other 58 minutes of that show?
March 5th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
I enjoyed TWD simply for the fact that Dale’s sorry ass is gone. Fuck that character and fuck that guy. He always had that woe is me attitude and holier than though way about him. Not to mention his facial expression was akin to one worn by a person who just say someone run over a box full of kittens.

March 5th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Speaking of Game of Thrones, here’s a badass new trailer.
March 5th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
I watched all the coverage of the Honda SAT-SUN. It was actually very entertaining, given the past few years it’s been a slog due to excessive wind, penal course set-up, etc. You had 3 major winners (Rory, Charl, Keegan), Tiger, Westwood all on the top of the leaderboard. And Gillis put on an all-time putting display. The Tiger eagle on 18 was profound and then Rory showed he has all the shots marching in.
Tiger isn’t back until he wins. He needs to put 4 rounds together. He gagged all over a short birdie put on THUR on 18. It’s those kind of errors that’s costing him. He can’t expect to comeback and win. His nature is to be a frontrunner. He’s won 6 times at Doral. So this will be a great test. Tiger, Phil & Rory all in the field this week.
March 5th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
I’ll let Jay V field all the GG questions. one of our favorite topics at Phillies games is GG.

March 5th, 2012 at 8:56 AM

March 5th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Mainly this. I don’t have expectations of greatness, and the show is more interesting to me than most of the other crap on TV. Would I prefer to watch Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, or Mad Men? Sure. But I don’t know, I just enjoy TWD. I like the route Carl’s character is taking, as well as Darrell. I absolutely think they need more to happen in an episode, but I still feel they’ve done a solid job and I find the premise interesting.

As someone who works in Fiance in NYC, that article was seriously awful. I know guys that cried when they got their bonus numbers this year, but that article just makes the whole situation seem comical. And no, I don’t make anywhere near that kind of money right now.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
The one guy interviewed, bitching about his $350,000 salary, was a marketing director. I can’t believe he didn’t consider that his plight might not engender a lot of empathy when he was interviewed for this article. He’s either naive or not a good marketing guy.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
It sucks. Does everybody do it? Probably. Were the Saints stupid enough to get caught? Obviously. I don’t think they were “dirtier” than other teams I have watched. If they provided incentive, they needed to provide more. Because the only time the team EVER got consistent pressure on QBs was the 2009 playoffs.
I wish Gregg Williams would have provided bounties and incentives for Roman Harper to cover and tackle tight ends.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Twitter’s fun. Just have to ignore or not follow some of more well known people out there. Although, following Rovell is fun just for the eye rolling you can do at his tweets
March 5th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Definitely another “cost-saving” measure.
You kind of nailed the counter-argument right there. Of course the premise of a zombie apocalypse is interesting. But nothing happens in the episodes and they are just wasting time and drawing it out because they can’t spend the money. One zombie in last night’s episode. One. And if you didn’t groan when Carl fell over and dropped his gun when that zombie lurched at him, I’ve lost some respect for you.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
16-0 in the SEC doesn’t deserve a mention? I guess TBL is saving that for his next “Kentucky doesn’t deserve the overall number one seed” post.

Glad to see Dale go, he was annoying. What was he doing walking around alone at night anyways? Everyone is letting their guard down way too much lately. I hope they leave the farm soon.

I’m sure it will be mentioned in the “College Basketball Dunks of the Year” post that is currently being penned.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Oh I absolutely did. It was so fucking dumb. But to be fair, he is what? 11 years old? And holding a loaded gun and getting really close to a zombie each for pretty much the first time in his life?
Totally agree that there’s too much wasted time for entertainment purposes, but then again, that’s kind of the point right now I guess. Their best chance for survival is to pull the exact boring bullshit with occasional lapses like they currently do on the farm. So while it makes the show more boring than it could be, it actually makes a lot of sense.
/that said, what doesn’t make sense is how a fucking zombie can sneak up on someone in the middle of an open field. That was just blatant retardation and truly pissed me off.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
You know I despise the Cayuts…but props. This team is a machine, and a failure to cut down the nets at the Superdome has to be deemed a failure, as far as I am concerned.

March 5th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
My boss will be sending his 2 year old to pre-school in Sept for $30k a year. This will never make sense to me.
A top end daycare in the Midwest can cost half-that so if that’s one for a private school in a densely populated East Coast area, I can almost make sense of that. If it ties into a top school that could be a de facto waiting list as well.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
One other thing: I’m more pissed off that Brees was franchised than I am about the bounty program.
Now we lose Carl Nicks and there’s no guarantee that we keep Colston. We needed that franchise tag for Nicks. The Saints may have a steep decline next year, which may be compounded by losing our first already for Mark Ingram, and the likelihood that we’ll lose our second as punishment.

I actually think the Office has improved the last few weeks.
Daycare alone costs my wife and I about $1k/month for our kid (he’ll be 1 next month). Seems really excessive, but when you break down the amount of time he’s there such that both of us can work it’s only like $5/hour.

Blowing money on daycare isnt a terrible expense. Realistically, your children’s education should be the priority after your necessities (food, shelter, clothing). Wouldn’t it be better to spend that on your kids daycare and drive a used piece of crap car, or better to lesae an overpriced SUV and leave your kids w/ some lady who sits them in front of a TV all day?
Your kids education and developmental patterns are highly impacted by their pre-K education (i.e. daycare). So by scrimping on daycare you’re really just setting your kids back.

March 5th, 2012 at 9:17 AM
Just let me say, chicago, I am railing more against the show than you do definitely not trying to pile on you. BUT Carl has been living in zombie world for months now, he’s encountered many zombies close up. AND he has taken part in the gun training with the group. He was taught gun safety and how to shoot so I don’t buy what you just said. They simply put in what they thought was a clever twist that the zombie derps away killing kills Dale, when in reality it was fucking stupid.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
I turned it off after Tiger was at 14. He had fucked up the last 2 holes and it just looked like Rory was coasting through.
I kinda feel bad for Rory too though. I mean the guy won the tournament, but everyone is still talking about Tiger.

March 5th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Your kids education and developmental patterns are highly impacted by their pre-K education (i.e. daycare). So by scrimping on daycare you’re really just setting your kids back.
Completely agree on this. Both my kids went to a really great daycare/pre-K school. My younger one even did his KG there due to schools moving to half day KG. He was fascinated by, and learned all 44 presidents by name number and face by the time he was 5. He had a fantastic teacher who developed him really well.

Any one with 2 kids in daycare? I have that coming up and the cost of it scares me.
I do. I have a 4 year old and 2.5 year old. We pay about $22.5k in daycare. Our plan is to send kids to public schools for 2-3 years, use all the daycare $$$ to payoff house, then send kids to private schools. It hurts. We coupon and don’t have cable.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
And because of this, I’m going to miss most of that weekend. Stupid girlfriend’s family. Thank god for DVR.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Any one with 2 kids in daycare? I have that coming up and the cost of it scares me.
Not sure exactly, but I know at our place it doesn’t just “double”. They do cut you a break for more than one kid.
Yup, mine gave us, I think, a 10% discount for my other kid.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
Daycare alone costs my wife and I about $1k/month for our kid
Well the $30k for pre-school doesn’t even include the full time nanny he employs for at least $750 a week. Can’t really let her go when he and his wife work til 7-8 almost every night. I get why people pay that, but I could never do it. I’d rather move to the burbs and pay the high taxes for the good free schools.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:22 AM

March 5th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
No problem man, I didn’t think you were piling on.
I was actually thinking Carl didn’t take part in the gun training… Did I completely misremember that? If so, then I completely change my opinion of that situation, and that would be pretty terrible writing. They were obviously looking for an excuse to make Carl all scarred and shit because he helped Dale get killed (which begs the question- how did the Zombie ultimately get onto the farm anyway? wouldn’t he have just gotten stuck in the mud again? I thought that was the whole point of the safety of the farm?) Anyway, I just thought for some reason that Carl’s parents stupidly didn’t let him do the gun practice.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
I don’t think you’re going to find someone who says “get your kids the cheapest care/education possible.” There’s not really an argument being had here, just people pointing out that having kids is fucking expensive. And that there’s a bunch of really wealthy people in New York who over do pretty much everything.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
“I think the Walking Dead sucks, but I consipume it like crazy. I read three separate recaps once it was over last night, and I’m dying to talk about how stupid it is today.” Dirt
I enjoy the Videogum recaps. I have no idea what Videogum is otherwise, but whoever reviews it does a fine job of lambasting it. It usually gets posted Monday afternoon.
Last night’s show was so fucking stupid on several levels. Most of which was Carl getting so much airtime. Fuck that kid.
You know how stupid this show is? It goes all the way to the marketing department which mistakenly leaked that you should buy Season 2 on DVD to see Shane’s final episode.

Knee surgery for Corey Hart will sideline the Milwaukee outfielder for the next four weeks. Adjust your fantasy rankings accordingly. [MLB.com]
He is one of those guys I never trust. I either rank him too high or too low. I can’t ever get a good idea of what he will do.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
I think my place may do that too. If it really does double I think we could have some one come to our house and look after the kids. That said, I think daycare does a better job then most people working out of their houses. Plus there’s safety considerations and what not.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
22K. Wow. At what point do you consider having one of you stay at home and maybe doing some part time work in the evening?
March 5th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
This might be old but this is awesome: Who said it, Mr. Burns or Mitt Romney?
March 5th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Did (and do during the summer). Runs about $300/week for the two of them. And it’s money I have no problem spending, either.
Private school, on the other hand, not as much. Of course, that depends on the quality of the schools around you.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Bravo.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
I’d rather move to the burbs and pay the high taxes for the good free schools.
I get this too. A big issue here is the stability of the school systems. Public school funding in OH is an unreliable dumpster fire presently. You could move someplace and then see funding cut. I’d love to see what schools the people in the state legislature have their kids to attend. I believe funding per person in prison is higher than per student.

how did the Zombie ultimately get onto the farm anyway? Chicago
Was thinking the same last night. All this time, no zombies on the farm other than the barn zombies. Zombies didn’t even come when they were having gun practice.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Wow. Did that dude say that with a straight face? Surely he was putting out some faux outrage, right?
March 5th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
This is about what I pay and I don’t mind paying it one bit. I have my kid in a pretty regimented program that has him doing stuff other than finger painting or playing all day, which is nice. They also have a program where they have them on a computer for about 15 minutes a day. It’s amazing to watch him progress through this place as he gets older.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
at least they didn’t say who kills him, but i know i mentioned shane was a goner a couple weeks ago and apparently it was already leaked and common knowledge he wasn’t making season 3
March 5th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Daycare alone costs my wife and I about $1k/month for our kid
same for our kid. i am not against the idea of private school, my wife went and gushes about it. i went to a good public school, so it makes it hard for me to get on board with coughing up 20K/year on school when there are good suburb options.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
At what point do you consider having one of you stay at home and maybe doing some part time work in the evening?
A good friend of mine’s wife seriously considered this since it was almost more costly for her to work (including commuting etc.). She decided to go back because her profession is not easy to back into once you leave for a few years, and it would not be cost efficient to be home when the kid goes to school in a few years.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:29 AM

I’d argue there are tons of people who have their kids w/ some family/friend on the cheap, and then say it’s not about the cost when it really is… But I’d agree there are pros and cons to every daycare choice.

I took the advice and actually watched the entire Flyers game last night and most of the Bruins Rangers game sunday afternoon. I admit I kind of enjoyed it.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
Yes you did. He took part. In fact they wasted at least 20 minutes of an episode debating it. They also showed him getting the hang of it really quick so no excuse for his derpness.
One thing I did enjoy was the prisoner telling Carl that he and his parents could come live with his group. It shows that this guy of course is going to be loyal to the people he grouped up with and not this group of idiots that have bound him and then tried to let him go then bound him again, then held him prisoner, then decided to shoot him and then didn’t shoot him.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
We’ll give it a hard look when we have a kid. Even if one worked a part-time gig from home and pulled in $25K a year, it almost evens out when when you factor in the commute, stress, lunches out, extra hours, and other bullshit that comes with a full time job in 2012.
The only downside is getting back into the field when the kid heads to pre-school. Tough to roll the dice in this economy.

It has been known for about a month since the actor that plays Shane signed up with TWD’s original showrunner for some LA noir cop show. I just thought it was funny.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
They just have to beat the best offer. So why anchor themselves to anything at this point?
If Washington can only offer #6 and either a 2nd rounder/future 1st rounder, why should Cleveland be ready to pony up #22?
They are already offering a better pick at #4.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
At what point do you consider having one of you stay at home and maybe doing some part time work in the evening?
/A good friend of mine’s wife seriously considered this since it was almost more costly for her to work
Right. Given some competitive job fields, this is career sabatoge. Then you have to account for impact on your retirement accounts, etc. You can also get the wife who gets the taste of stay-at-home mom and wants to drag her feet about getting back to work. So when your kids are in school, you’re still working 2 jobs and your wife’s crushing chardonnay after soccer practice and checking blogs for the best birthday party themes. No thanks.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:38 AM

And that is the rub. The other downside is it is really fucking boring. I was a stay at home dad for 8 weeks after the boy was born. He either slept or ate. I watched a lot of VH1 channels because daytime tv is garbage. I still can’t pinpoint why I settled on Vh1 channels.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Washington is said to have offered this year’s No. 1 and next year’s No. 1 plus some other picks. If that’s the offer, the only way CLE beats that is offering both their No. 1′s this year. If CLE thinks RGIII is the real deal they have to pull the trigger. They haven’t had a competent QB since the 80′s.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
We can only hope. He’s looked pretty solid the past two games.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
If Washington can only offer #6 and either a 2nd rounder/future 1st rounder, why should Cleveland be ready to pony up #22?
You would chance missing out on a franchise QB for a 22 pick?
March 5th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
yeah, it’s surprising that material is even finalized at this point since the next season won’t be starting until October and the dvd won’t be out until september.
on a side note, of all the comic story lines they really need to keep as it was in the books: Shane’s Demise, the Governor, Rick’s encounter with the Governor and the prison.
anything beyond that can change for all i care, those 4 events really made the story of the comic unique and set it right.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
They could really use that marginal DE that won’t be on the team in 3 years.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Living in Brooklyn, my fiancee and I were paying a nanny from the Caribbean $1600 a month under the table to stay with our infant son… he wasnt learning shit so we decided to have her stay with him full time, learn, and save the money. Public schools around us are pretty good though, so we are lucky we dont have to drop major coin on Private. The top public schools in NYC are some of the best in the country in my opinion.
That 30k school mentioned in the article is Poly Prep near where I live (Joakim Noah’s high school). Hard to shed tears for that guy in the article.

Deciding to stay at home not just a financial decision. It can be seriously draining on you mentally, emotionally. Not all people can find fulfillment from being with babies or toddlers all day, every day. My wife being one of these people – she stayed at home for a few months, that was enough.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
@Cleet- OK, well I must have completely zoned out during that bullshit. I still have enjoyed the show, but I can see how you would be absolutely incredulous at me doing so. Like I said, it’s mostly the premise- I probably get to thinking about what I would be doing during a zombie apocalypse and stop paying attention to the show.
I hope Randall fucks their whole crew up, kills Carl, Lori, and Shane, T-Dog, and that shaved head gray haired whiny chick, and then gets murked by Darrell, and then season 3 is just Rick and Darrell killing zombies and humans all day long as they take over the world.

that said, Rory is beyond impressive.

Don’t read into any of this… Heckert and Holmgren are very good at disseminating misinformation. It’s a good negotatiating point to start low. The Tannehill rumors. Next week the Claiborne rumors will start. They’ve done this for 2 straight drafts already.

I’m pretty sure if my fiance became a stay at home mom, it would lead to divorce because I would lose my mind from her calling me 75 times a day because she was bored. I’m not even joking, I honestly believe this to be true. And she’s not even annoying like that now, I just know it will lead to that because she is the type that constantly needs to keep herself busy.
March 5th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
There’s no chance the rams agree to any deal before they’re actually on the clock, so why dangle way, way too much bait a month early? It’s pointless, really. if the Rams drop lower than 4, they miss out (likely) on two BPAs at need positions. At 4, they can have one or the other. thats an ultra safe trade for them. down to 6, and hoping Blackmon is still there, or the corner from LSU really isnt
March 5th, 2012 at 9:48 AM

This is especially true if you have almost no interaction with other adults. You just want 10 minutes of being able to talk to someone with the ability of communicating with words instead of crying and grunting.
There are studies now that say it’s better to be a stay-at-home parent when your child is older (junior high age, for example). Keeps them from making bad decisions.

Bradley intrigues me a little;
He’s shown big game all year. Johnly Miller hit it on the head, his iron game still needs some variety – he only has a full throttle high shot, no low shots or 3/4 shots. But his grit and focus are Raymond Floyd-esque.
Wake me when Tiger puts it together for 4 rounds. Yeah he putted great yesterday but on Thursday he putted like a blind kid at a putt putt course. And anything outside of winning at Augusta won’t validate shit. Even w/ all the drama he’s been no worse than 6th there for 6 straight years.
He needs to putt and drive for 4 days. Hasnt been able to do it for 2-3 years now. He goes out of his way to find excuses to hit 3W of the tee when the young guns are creating more birdie opportunities w/ their drivers.

hope they mean it…team needs some kind of talent, esp at WR and RT. any QB is going to get killed with the shitty personnel the browns have on the OL (except for sir joe thomas) by waiting for WR’s that won’t ever get open to get open.
they’re not going to be good next year…get some talent and hope the cards fall right and you can get barkley next year.
“franchise QB” only means something when they’re peyton or big ben and can deal with the pressure of having a shit OL and i don’t see RGIII as a guy who can do that. so, in the meantime, get the roster filled with young players that can ingrain themselves in the system until the team is ready for a QB to come in and put it all together.

No, Cleveland could beat it by offering #4 this year and their #1 next year + stuff. St. Louis is in a good spot (but not a great spot), because if they don’t trade the pick, then they won’t take Griffin. And everyone knows that.
Unlike last year, where Atlanta had to be pretty confident if they didn’t meet Cleveland’s price, then Cleveland would just take Julio Jones.

Dan LeBatard is consistently the most intelligent sports columnist there is. The business of writing and talking about sports has been reduced to harbor as much rationality as you’d find in a witchcraft and vudu convention.
I believe a network that rises up to cater to intelligent people has a ready-made niche that will make it at least relevant. NBC Sports is clearly just more of the same mass stupidity and results based analysis that you can easily get from a panel of Wilbon, Barry, Magic and the Chris Broussard.

I agree that it’s better to have two good parents, but if you can provide everything your child needs without a second parent. It just makes it much harder .
March 5th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
After watching Chris Hansen’s piece about daycare on Friday night, it confirms my choice to have my wife stay home when we have kids.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
Since I have them in the playoffs in a futures bet, yes, I do. Wilson was a terrible coach. Now if only they could fire both their goaltenders.

i picture him as the purdue mascott. Just a giant plastic head with exaggerated features.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
No kids yet but we have talked about day care or one of us staying home longer to avoid the cost of day care which is awful here outside Philly. it almost makes you not want to have any kids unless you have a few extra thousand to spend every month for day care.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
Look at what it takes to win in the league w/out a top-10 QB. It takes the best defense in the league. Now which is harder? Landing the QB or drafting/signing enough pieces to have the best D in the league? If RGIII is as good as most think he is, you absolutely take him instead of drafting a combination of the second best LT, Blackmon and a decent LB at 24.

Can you still play as the mascots on the EA college games? The Syracuse Orange was fucking unstoppable.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Don’t think having kids is “lose/lose”… but I totally get why people who fucked up and had a kid when they weren’t ready resent the kid and their life. That’s a huge fuckup. You gotta be ready.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
At least she is a looker unlike that horseface Skylar White.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
you don’t get a top 10 QB with the talent the browns have on offense. it’s just not possible.
you say the browns will suck without a top flight QB…fine. we’ve had a decade of losing, what’s one more year? we’ll have a chance to get another QB who’d come into a better situation next draft. patience brother.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
another walking dead thing that’s been bothering me…
while they’re looking for the girl who was already zombie-fied in the woods, they came across a bunch of campsites, and then last night randall mc-rapeyson talked about “coming across a campsite” with a dad and two daughters… WHY would you be camping outside in a zombie apocalypse… why wouldn’t you be locked away in some house at night. They can’t open doors, can they?
March 5th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
I don’t. If you ever resent the thought of your kid you did something terribly wrong in the parenting process or you are the most selfish person on the planet and you should have given the child up for adoption. I understand being freaked out during the pregnancy, but after the child arrives you need to check yourself and man the fuck up.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Shouldn’t resent the child for the fact that you were too stupid to not have an abortion, but I get what you mean.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
A great QB makes every single player better, right?
So you’re just sure that you’ll get Barkley, huh? That seems like a terrible strategy to me.

It’s not exactly in Chris Hansen’s best interest to do anything but show how awful some daycares are. Daycares are like anything else….they can be awful or they can put your kid ahead.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
After Barkley who will be the top QBs next year (and don’t say Landry Jones as he’s going to suuuck in the NFL)?
Tyler Wilson?

March 5th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
I don’t. You can’t resent the kid, it’s an innocent in all of that. Blame the woman, that’s what all of my friends with baby mama’s they aren’t together with do.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Exactly. I bet his producer made sure to skip the daycares that are great with kids because that doesn’t spark a response. Having said that, I’m sure there are terrible daycares all around the country and that is a frightening thought as a new parent.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
they don’t make players that aren’t nfl starter caliber better, and that’s the problem. what good is a QB that makes D talent play at a C level?
im not sure, but, conversely, it seems like a terrible strategy to draft a QB and have him get killed and then have to start over again. PATIENCE. and hell, look at the 9ers and ravens…they got to their conf champ games with alex smith and joe flacco, both 1st round picks who had their moments but would be MUCH less successful without the talent they have around them on offense. browns don’t have those players.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
I am a season behind on Breaking Bad, but I really don’t like Skylar White. I even hate her name.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
That woman says “I would want to make sure that my kids were raised with strong male role models, something I lacked growing up” and then “I could have men in my life on the periphery, but I would place my child securely in the center”. Indeed. Nothing says “strong male role models” like mommy bringing home a new uncle every few weeks.

March 5th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
I think it would be silly to pass up on a pro-bowl caliber QB if in fact they think RGIII fits that bill.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
After Barkley who will be the top QBs next year (and don’t say Landry Jones as he’s going to suuuck in the NFL)?

You cant pass on RG3, you cant. I understand all the holes the Browns have but you cant let a guy like him go because of it. If you have to, let McCoy start another year if you are that worried about his weapons. Theres nothing wrong with letting your rookie QB sit for a year.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
Spencer: You can’t wait forever. If you don’t go QB this year, it’ll be Joe Thomas’s year 7 before he has an elite talent to protect. How much longer does he have?

Of course this is how it should be. Not that easy for some people. And it’s not just the guy.
I’m just saying I understand the perception of kids being “lose/lose” if you aren’t ready for it, and I would definitely not wish “oops, you’re going to be a parent” on anyone not ready.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
So who watched Spring Training this weekend? I have to admit that it’s pretty smart of Boston to craft JetBlue park in a similar style as Fenway.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Murray is too short to be a top prospect. I think he can be good in the NFL, but no one is taking him in the first round. If Geno Smith is the third QB in the draft next year (because I would think Wilson would be No. 2) someone is going to get a king’s ransom for Barkley if they don’t need a QB. Imagine CLE getting RGIII, winning only 2 games with him and getting to sell off the Barkley pick for 2 No. 1s and a third and fifth?
March 5th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
The biggest problem is money. As costs outpace salary growth, it becomes more and more difficult to find quality day care without sitting on a waiting list for years or paying out the ass. So middle-class people, for reasons both fiscal and logistical, choose more affordable, “shitter” day cares.
Also, daycares are well aware of how in-demand their services are and frequently skimp on quality staff to make as much money as possible.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
My wife stayed home with all 4 kids. Well worth the financial struggles and she loves being a mom. Could not stomach the thought of my kids being raised by some mouth breathing teens at a daycare facility, or privately by someone you don’t know and getting tortured in some way that will rear it ugly head later on. Never good for kids to be away from their parents for 12 hours a day, and see them for 1 or 2.
4th kid is now in pre-school so she is back to working PT. Will be FT in a year or two. Can’t wait!
/Bart Scott’d
March 5th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
Not just his weapons. It’s about a shitty o-line. It’s about a defense that will constantly be putting you in difficult positions. The degree of difficulty will be incredible.
I don’t know if trading for the ability to draft RG3 is a good idea or not. But when you have so many holes to fill having two first round picks is a big deal.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Good lord, people don’t think my real name is Cleet Von Winbush do they?
March 5th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
So true. There is a great place right by our house that is too rich for our blood at the moment.
I disagree. I think it’s good for a kid to be with several other kids and learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them all of the time.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
every highly drafted QB’s pro bowl caliber until they actually play a game.
OT’s can play pretty long, esp considering he hasn’t missed a game in his career and the fact the current NFL environment, LT’s are often dancing with pass rushers more than they’re slamming into run stuffing DE’s.
but you should know exactly what im getting at with my train of thought…would dalton have been shit without AJ and a strong running game? FUCK NO.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Think? No.
Hope? Oh god yes.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
But when you have so many holes to fill having two first round picks is a big deal.
that’s an even bigger deal if you’re already committed to a (questionable) QB like the Rams are. That’s why they want those picks.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
In theory sure. But this is the twitter-everyone has adhd generation. Unless you have a Brett Favre/McNabb in place, how patient will the fans be waiting for their first-day draft pick QB on the bench?
March 5th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
now that’s a scenario i’d like…but it’s even more of a longshot than the browns sucking without RGIII. id much rather take claiborne, coples, blackmon or reiff at 4 and hope to get floyd or a LB at 22, suck, and then trade a king’s ransom for barkley.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:21 AM

actually. yes.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
The Browns are too far away from contention to be thinking QB. That team has holes everywhere.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
No, but we didn’t spend a #4 on him. I was definitely surprised by his play this year.
I don’t think he would have gotten killed playing behind a bad line. He seems smart and gets rid of the ball. Same reason I don’t expect Griffin to get killed behind a bad line.
Maybe Greg Little and Evan Moore would be pretty capable receivers/TEs if they had a decent QB.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Never good for kids to be away from their parents for 12 hours a day
I disagree. I think it’s good for a kid to be with several other kids and learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them all of the time.
A little kid in daycare for 12 hours is something like 90 separate spans of attention
March 5th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
You know I’m driving the Team Barkley train, but I’m not sure if that makes sense as they won’t have the No. 24 pick next year to deal, so they will most likely have to give up two early round No. 1s as opposed to one early round and one back(ish) end No. 1.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Why are we assuming the Browns aren’t in contention for the number one pick next year based on shittiness alone? Do they not have a first rounder?
March 5th, 2012 at 10:25 AM

I would agree with this 100%. Parents talk about their kids with other people way too much for my taste, but I suspect that as they grow up and you see them becoming a real person, it’s hard to not talk about them as they are your focal point for the rest of your life.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:26 AM

March 5th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Sort of? Put your real name on twitter, dick.
March 5th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
So did Carolina last year. So do the Colts this year; think of the bounty the Colts could get for that pick. For a good QB I’d be inclined to agree, but for a franchise changing QB, if you have the opportunity to take him I think you have to. I hope Cleveland doesn’t think that of RGIII though because fuck Cleveland

Now that the commitment to money is different to top picks they may be more patient. A year can work out, nothing more than that. On top of that the kid can run and throw the ball a mile. Two things Colt cant do, that could help his line if they dont need to protect as long

I get a little here and there, and I have a few daytime friends. But it sucks staying home. And we have a lot of wood paneling, dumbass dogs, and quite a few quilts. And one of my dogs is a geniune assassin when it comes to flannel sheets.
But yeah, I really wouldn’t wish this on too many people. But I also don’t want to jam my kid in day care, especially up here.
