USA Defeats Italy 1-0 on Clint Dempsey Goal
Clint Dempsey’s dream season continues. The United States beat Italy 1-0 on his goal (seen above). It was the Americans’ first win in 11 attempts against the four-time World Cup champions. Beating Italy in Italy, whatever the tangible value, is undoubtedly a great result. Taking the lead against the run of play and holding it will build confidence and relieve some pressure on Klinsmann. What should you read into this? Not much.
It’s a friendly exhibition, played midweek during the club season. Dicks are flaccid. Established players are focused on staying healthy and fit. The U.S., though shorthanded, played the best squad at its disposal. Italy left multiple first-choice players on the bench and capped a Nigerian-Italian defender playing in Serie B. This result will look great in the FIFA rankings and mean about as much as them. Giuseppe Rossi won’t be rethinking his decision to play for Italy.

Wait a second, does this mean you still don’t know what’s going to happen to loews?
February 29th, 2012 at 5:35 PM
Yep.
So where does Dempsey move this summer? He is far too good to be at Fulham. I could see him with Spurs.
Also, Roberto Soldado scored a hattrick for Spain. Fernando Torres’s international career is completely finished now. Fucking hilarious.

Rulers out?

Waste of time. Not going to try to change the opinion of someone whose opinion I don’t care about.

He’s sort of in a tough spot. He turns 29 in 10 days. A lot of clubs would be interested independent of cost, but he’s worth more to Fulham than he is on the open market. Is there a team willing to commit $15 to $20 million in transfer fees, pay him and get nothing on the back end? Maybe, but it’s going to limit his options.
February 29th, 2012 at 5:56 PM
Good points. I’m assuming he will not want to move out of England, which might really limit him. Think it will depend on what some of these other teams do, could see him replacing a few players on London clubs.
Would be nice to see him in the Champions League.

I don’t understand. Are you telling me that you STILL don’t know what is going on with loews?

Caught the 2nd half of the game, thought Altidore looked especially strong, definitely gave the Italians fits. Bradley, like you said, came up big in certain spots, defending on goal.

Edu had a great game today as well. And I still say that regardless of the fact that this was a friendly, it still means something. It’s still a quality win over a country that the USA haven’t beaten before, and it was away. These are the types of games that the team would constantly lose, that even a “B” Euro team would wax the “A” USA team. This game is definitely a step in the right direction.

Relax ignorant american fans, you don’t win a trophy for beating Italy.
The game was so huge that the stadium was almost half empty.
Enjoy “winning” the minefield that is the Western Athletic Conference – I meant to say CONCACAF
You GHANA go down.
