Gyasi Cline-Heard: From Penn State Star to Leader of a Drug and Gun Ring in Florida?
Who remembers Gyasi Cline-Heard? Probably a small portion of college basketball fans. He was a role player at Penn State in the late 90s, and then, as a senior, he averaged 16.0 ppg and 8.2 rpg. Memorably, he went for 19-9 against UNC in a major second round NCAA Tournament upset.
(Hardcore college hoops fans remember that as the end of Joe Forte’s career – the UNC star entered the NBA draft after the loss and was never heard from again.)
Cline-Heard, who is the son of former NBA player and coach Garfield Heard, was able to parlay his senior season into a brief overseas career. Why the hell are we talking about Gyasi Cline-Heard? Take it away, Tampa Bay Times:
On Feb. 10, Cline-Heard, 32, was arrested on charges he was the leader of a drug and gun ring in Pasco and Pinellas. He and a 25-year-old woman, Jessica Colon, were picked up during a raid at her house in Tarpon Springs …
Four dozen guns were found during the raids. The enormity of the stockpile of weapons — most of them assault rifles and machine guns with rounds that could easily penetrate officer’s vests and cruisers — shocked investigators …
Undercover vice agents bought cocaine and a gun from Heard before the bust, Nocco said. In the course of 11 transactions since November, undercover officers bought more than 617 grams of cocaine — crack and powder — and one .380-caliber
Leader on NCAA basketball court becomes leader of Pasco drug ring, authorities say [Times]

Miami DB who committed the “pass interference penalty” in the end zone against OSU in 2003 was just arrested for murder in Atlanta. Good times.

Forte got arrested a while ago for gun and drug possession. He’s rotting away in the Euro leagues now though.

I can’t imagine lower division Italian league players are making much money.

Garfield is an underutilized name.

I imagine it’s enough to live and get by. Don’t ruin my daydream.

Aside from Vince and obviously Jordan, the talented two-guards from UNC haven’t help up too well in the league lately. Forte, McCants, and now Ellington. Can Harrison Barnes reverse the trend?
/BTW, didn’t McCants do a movie where he portrayed a homosexual gangster ala Omar from The Wire or am I totally making that up?

Wasn’t Garfield’s slave master gay? What the hell was the deal with Odie? What a meth head.
February 28th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
*held up too well.

Can Harrison Barnes reverse the trend?
I don’t think he will have as successful of a career as Vince Carter, but I imagine him being in the league for awhile — he can do one thing well, score.

Danny Green has stuck.
Where’s Jawad Williams these days? He wasn’t awful.

it was a penalty damnit!

I always thought of him as more of a 3 or a 4. Last I remember he was in Cleveland. As far as Danny Green, he has surprised me. Good for him getting minutes with the Spurs, but at the same time, I don’t think he was nearly has hyped coming out of high school as the other guys.

Where’s Jawad Williams these days
you mean Hot-Wad Williams? or Gay-Wad Williams, depending on where you went to HS in cleveland?

If he wanted to stick with the new tradition at Pedo Bear U he would have had a 10-year-old sex slave (boy, of course). So at least there’s that.

Another dream ended by that game. Honestly, can we trace everything that is wrong with America to OSU being gifted that win?

Anyone else see Penn St in the headline and than be relieved that it’s just guns and drugs? Reminds me of this.
February 28th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
most of them assault rifles and machine guns with rounds that could easily penetrate officer’s vests and cruisers
why is it always concluded that this is the primary intent? don’t the same people that deal in that caliber of weapons likely also wear vests?
even the worst criminals don’t want to be labeled cop-killers.
February 28th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
Seems like a good dude.
I still laugh at this every time you post it …
February 28th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
This is the feel good story of the year
February 28th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
I know that with “cop killer bullets” the police departments fought hard against that label being used. It was the media that created it. Teflon bullets actually decrease penetration power against vests. Breaking through a vest is about the hardness of the round, not the coating, and SHOCKINGLY the media sensationalized it and fucked up the gun control debate.
