i like your point about the refs. he will def get run over in his own house if he doesn’t approach that situation carefully. now, i’m not sure he hasn’t been active with them (i think he’s had more techs already this year than Gary did all last) but he’ll certainly need to show progress with earning their respect by next year.

Stogs is gone next year (my guess) and Gary prob wouldn’t have changed that.

RFK – i can’t defend Edsall. his first year has been awful. i won’t, however, take duffy’s approach and crucify him until he’s had a fair shot at building a winning program.

it’s not like DOB had a good year. he seems like a system guy and that system has gone elsewhere.

But what really turned me off with him was the comments after the UVA game. He completely threw the kids under the bus: “not one player played well”, “we are a selfish team, we make selfish mistakes”. Now I know this is a dramatic departure from Gary who would always personally take on the blame and critism, but I don’t like it. You never know what goes on behind closed doors, but from the perspective of the public he seems indifferent to these kids? Your right maybe it’s because they are not his? So he feels if they leave (Stoglin), he can always start fresh with his incoming Freshman? I’m not knocking his recruiting though. On paper it looks fantastic, but like I say about all recruiting; you don’t win games on paper.
Also, during the games themselves Turg often seems disinterested. When he does give any kind of attention to a player, he’ll dismissively wave his hands at the kid and ignore them when they get back to the bench. No in-game coaching from the HC? Maybe that’s why you can count on them hitting the wall every game with 10min to go? He mainly lets his assistants coach the game and often just sits there with very little interaction with the kids or the refs.

Bino’s a very talented guy, but if he keeps hitting home runs on the recruiting trail (DUI’s aside) he will not be College Park very long. I also have a problem with him not working the refs. Other than the Miami game in Coral Gables, Turg does not work the refs at all. In a league like the ACC, you have to do that or else more vocal, respected coaches like K, Roy, and soon enough Boeheim will walk all over you.

Just my thoughts in the games I’ve watched or been to this year. Like I said i am prolly totally offbase with my critism.

And i’m not sure why anyone would have doubts about Turgeon at this point. he’s coaching someone else’s players, who were built for someone else’s system, and who mostly underclassmen. not to mention he’s lost his only PG all but 7 games this season.

oh yeah, and he’s already locked up a good recruiting class for next year and is one of two schools with a legit shot at the Harrison twins in ’13.

But with this, I really didn’t mind. Albeit it’s near impossible to prove, it seems pretty well known here than Franklin has been trying to convince DOB to do this since Franklin took the Vandy job to begin with. It’s kinda stupid, but I understand not wanting Franklin to get him if he tampered at all. But whatever, Edsall is still kind of an asshole.

As a terp alum I have to disagree. Edsall has been heavy handed and tone deaf with everything he’s said/done since he arrived and this is more of the same. My view of the tampering charge is that it’s nearly impossible to prove and it’s a very lame attempt to distract from his inability to control the mass exodus from his program. The sooner he’s gone, the sooner the real rebuilding can begin.

But with this, I really didn’t mind.
