Jeremy Lin’s on the Cover of Sports Illustrated Again
Jeremy Lin’s on the cover of Sports Illustrated for the second week in a row. Not a major surprise. If his internet staying power and TV ratings are any indication, newsstand sales were boffo.
Linsanity has worn off a bit since New York’s win over Dallas Sunday, but that’s probably due to exhaustion more than anything. Lin and the Knicks were torched by Deron Williams and the Nets Monday. Carmelo Anthony has returned. Lin has been added to some All-Star weekend festivities. Amare’s lack of defense is finally a talking point. Subplots abound. But we will not be deterred by subplots!
The Knicks play the Hawks tonight, but good news is that Atlanta won’t have the services of its best scorer, Joe Johnson (knee). I’d expect Willie Green to start in his place. Without Johnson and his 17.6 ppg, the Hawks are 7-point underdogs, which seems absurd because the Knicks are still learning how to play with all their new parts.
What I’ll watch for tonight is not the Melo-Lin chemistry, but how Melo plays with Amare. I like to think that at some point after the All-Star break, D’Antoni is going to have to move Amare into a 6th man role and start Jared Jeffries. Defensively, Amare is a disaster against the pick-and-roll, and I think he’d work much better coming off the bench playing 30 minutes a night, mostly against reserves. You’ve got enough offense in the starting lineup with Lin and Fields and Melo, why not put Amare in the second unit, which would be very aggressive offensively with JR Smith and Baron Davis also jacking shots.

Disappointing NYK start. Lazy passes, not getting back on D … Miami on the mind. Also, Lin looks gassed at both ends.

you’re in the wrong post. There’s a new one already

why not put Amare in the second unit,
probably because he makes 25 million per season

Finally? I think it’s pretty well known how bad his defense is, and it’s nothing new.

Amare getting a lot of run with the second unit here.

Boffo is a great word. I’m gonna work that into something tonight

On second thought, I might just start using boffo as part of a Guy Fieri impression. That seems like something he would say. “The pizza is downtown but the sauce on those tacos it’s where it’s really at. I am talking just a boffo sauce. Really killer.”

I’m sure it’s been discussed, but TBL’s decision to don his mothers drapes as an upper body covering (“shirt” would feel misplaced) in his twitter pic was a bold move.

Who is shocked that Alabama and LSU voted against multi year schollies? Oh, right, nobody.

Lin has been a great story and he seems like a genuinely nice kid, but thanks to the 24/7 media cycle, I am absolutely sick of hearing about him.

Cassino- It hasn’t but that is a great call. Though his hair is played out and that shirt is weak.

Smedium floral print. Looks like a 16 year old’s first non-white bra.

Lots of counting today.

Should’ve given something else in the closet some run.

But perfect for a Sandra Bullock heist movie.

I’m floored hearing this.

RE: TBL’s Twitter
The shirt is obviously the most egregious error but can I ask about the tag line? Sports. Media. Culture. has Jason been spending time tweeting about literary, culinary and theater trends lately or has he mistaken TMZ and US Weekly gossip as Culture? These are different things.
Jason please adjust this to Pop Culture before one of Duffy’s friends stumbles across some athlete dong while scanning your twitter feed for information about the latest exhibit at the Met.

Funny.
Nice

Duchess – Tagline has been around since 2006.
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:29 PM
Really? I could have sworn it said pop culture on the old site and I’ve been around since The Hef Chronicles. I guess my memory is going to shit.
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:31 PM
Hmmm. Good question. I think we started the Culture Tourney in 2008. Don’t think we had a pop culture tag.

the list of great athletes who have less covers than Lin is impressive
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:33 PM
fewer
i love being told especially today ‘slow down you are posting comments too fast’

Someone linked a picture of Rick Santorum’s face made completely of still photos of gay porn. Kinda funny, can’t really see any dong so I’m sure most of you wouldn’t approve of that.

I started laughing about three minutes ago on this one. That’s funny.

I wouldn’t mind this. Something is clearly wrong with him, whether its the makeup of the team, the constant turmoil since the trade last year, injuries, the lockout and being out of shape, etc. At the very least, maybe it refocuses him, which isn’t a bad thing.
