Kelvin Taylor, Fred Taylor’s Son, Commits to Florida
Kelvin Taylor, the all-time leading rusher in Florida high school history, has committed to Florida. Taylor, who is the son of former NFL star Fred Taylor, picked the Gators over Alabama.
Taylor broke Emmitt Smith’s old State record in three years. He’ll be a senior next year and join the Gators in September 2013. Somewhat surprisingly, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound Taylor was coveted by SEC schools, but isn’t even a Top 100 running back according to Rivals (111th).
Kelvin Taylor has rushed for 9,698 yards in three seasons. The all-time high school rushing record is held by Ken Hall (Sugar Land, Texas), who tallied 11,232 yards between 1950 and 1953.
If you were born in 1990 and are unaware of just how good of a pro Fred Taylor was, he’s the 15th leading rusher in NFL history. Fred Taylor went to Florida, too.

Florida records count his eighth grade rushing stats for whatever reason. National records won’t so he’s a shade over 3,000 yards away from Hall’s mark.

Weird. I played football in Florida in 8th grade & I don’t think anyone was racking stats for our league. Where did this little fucker go that they counted for his HS totals?

I’m pretty sure he played HS ball as an 8th grader, right?

Yeah, Glades Day is a private school, so he was able to start on the HS varsity team as an 8th grader.
