It was. The Score is the music that accompanies the film as it plays (almost always original music). That is what Reznor won for with The Social Network. Soundtrack as the others stated are songs used for certain scenes or moments that are then placed onto a cd for you to buy at Sam Goodys (/90s).

Well, score is just sort of sounds that go with scenes. Soundtrack, I think, includes actual songs with lyrics.

Regardless, they kind of blend together for me in conversation.

I think the score is usually the instrumental music played in the background… soundtrack has actual songs that might be played in the movie, but also might just be related somehow.
