Kevin Youkilis is Engaged to Tom Brady’s Sister
Julie Brady, sister of Patriots’ QB, is engaged to Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis, the Boston Herald reports.
Youkilis is from Ohio, but he’s really embraced Boston – first, he dated (married?) Ben Affleck’s ex, and now he’s moved on to the sister of New England’s most popular athlete.
It will be Nancy’s first marriage and Youk’s second. He was married in 2008, but turns out not legally, to Ben Affleck’s ex, Enza Sambataro. They split two years later and she resigned as CEO of his charity, Youk’s Kids.
Julie Brady is the one on the far left here. Congrats Tom, your future brother-in-law was once named the “Ugliest Athlete” by Men’s Journal!

February 10th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Uh, Youk is at third base.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Incest.

Looks like he got the pretty one.

Sam Cassell got robbed.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
He was married in 2008, but turns out not legally
What does this mean?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
If my sister banged Youklis I would probably murder her.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Youk is still outkicking his coverage here.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
I read she has a 5 year old from a previous relationship too.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Sam Cassell not winning that is akin to Muhammad Ali not winning a “greatest boxer” discussion.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Otis Nixon wishes he looked like Sam Cassell.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Beat me to it. What a travesty; he really deserved it.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Youk is still outkicking his coverage here.
Millionaire star third basemen for beloved baseball team out kicking his coverage with average looking woman with 5 year old kid? Really?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
She looks a lot like Brady. This is not a good thing.

Ignore his stance. He gets on base. That’s all that matters.

and the one that looks most like Tom. Think Youk asks her to put on shoulder pads, a football helmet and a little eyeblack in the sack?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Yes. She could do better. He is that ugly.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
I believe the Men’s Journal had a stipulation that said athlete had to be from this planet.

February 10th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
Still don’t get the Gisele appeal. The picture above does nothing to sway me from my opinion either.

Anyways, my girlfriend breaks up with me a few years later and I bump into her friend at a party. We end up hooking up that night. One of my most proud accomplishments I must say.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
I look a lot like my sister. She is 3 years older than me and all through highschool my buddies would be like ‘dude your sister is hot’ and I had to remind them how much similar my sister and I looked. Then I called them fags.
So I dont think your theory is rock solid. Although one of my buddies has a sister that looks like him and she is a trainwreck. But he didn’t exactly avoid all the branches in the ugly tree either.

I thought Better than Ezra’s one hit was Desperately Wanting?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Nah man, that’s like their lesser known hit before getting big. King of New Orleans, Desperately Wanting, At the Stars all got more play
February 10th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
she still had feelings for him(even though she was married)
for a guy she dated when she was 15? That’s kind of weird, no?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
damn I hated that song.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Desperately Wanting?
Thats the Gin Blossoms
February 10th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Taking Back Sunday – MakeDamnSure
February 10th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Another album I had that had some good songs. Desperately Wanting. In The Blood. Rosealia.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Wait, im wrong — they sound the same though
February 10th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
GO JIM DANDY
February 10th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Zack proved that with JB Slater.
Well, in this case he would have a point.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Not a one hit wonder. They had “Linger” as well
February 10th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Nada Surf – Popular
February 10th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Oh man. Bad memories with that one.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Nope.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Popped that cherry.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
King Missile – Detachable Penis
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
That’s funny, I always got Gin Blossoms and and Spin Doctors confused
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
if you are going to disparege the name of Charlie Daniels at least get the lyrics right vez, you’re better than that.
it’s I get stoned in the morning, I get drunk in the afternoon.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
i get drunk in the morning, i get high in the afternoon
Stoned in the morning, drunk in the afternoon,
Not me.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
For some reason I’m always confusing her with the girl from American Pie who also played Kelso’s baby mama on That ’70s Show.
TBL’s ears just perked up.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
lol
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Fuck. That’s in my head now. Although I recall the chick in the video on the Vespa being cute as hell
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Popped that cherry.
ahhh.. touche.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Better than Ezra – Good
As everyone else said: In the Blood, Desperately Wanting, King of New Orleans. Too many to be a 1-hit wonder
Now…Deadeye Dick and “All-American Girl” (AKA “She don’t eat meat but she sure like the bone”)? Yep, 1 hit wonder all the way.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
I’m probably going to spend most of my day on YouTube searching these songs and getting all nostalgic. Thanks guys. Much appreciated.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Nope, BTE. Gin Blossoms greatest hits are still in my listening rotation.
/follow you down but not that far
February 10th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Dreams by Cranberries is more popular but not as good as Zombie. Zombie as a killa track.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
A dude from my hometown had a great cover of that
February 10th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
I have a buddy who I can piss off in 1 second flat by singing this song at him. I’ve been doing it ever since this song came out.

February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Ladies and gentleman, this is Mambo Number 5.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Meatpuppets – Backwater
I bought this album based on this one song. Bad decision.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Charlie Daniels
Clearly not a one hit wonder — but I remember driving around after 9/11 and a local classic rock station (WDVE) played “In America” — that song is amazing.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
I remember back in high school they were promoting this Gin Blossoms concert in my hometown, really hyping it up big time on the radio and tv. they ended up selling something like 100 advance tickets and cancelling the show. good times.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Hum – Stars
February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Your assertion sounds fishy to me.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
They’re not a one-hit wonder are they?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Also, “Cantaloop” by Us3.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
Ha, I cant believe I went to their concert. But Jacob Dylan was sooo yummy.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
I feel like the Goo Goo Dolls were just a bunch of one hit wonders but they had like 5 albums when I was a teenager.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:55 AM

Meatpuppets – Backwater
I bought this album based on this one song. Bad decision.
early stuff is awesome tho
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
It’s not 100% true all of the time but I knew as soon as someone brought up Tom Brady’s sister (and having never seen her) she would not be as attractive as Tom Brady.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Anyone who tries to tell me the Gin Blossoms are a one hit wonder is getting punched in the goddamn face.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Kim Kardashian – Jam (Turn it Up)
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Not their finest moment. But they were an absolute firebreathing demigod of a live act back when.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
The best song has yet to be mentioned. Allow me.
Toadies – Possum Kingdom
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
What do we name as Everclear’s “hit”? I actually liked them but what’s the one song you associate with them?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Seven Mary Three – Cumbersome
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Candlebox is a one hit wonder right?
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Dishwalla – Counting Blue Cars
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Charlie Daniels loves ‘Merica.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
I really like 6th Avenue Heartache but I guess it could count.
Candlebox – Far Behind
Marcy Playground – Sex and Candy
Verve – Bittersweet Symphony
Verve Pipe – Freshman
February 10th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
I own that album! Love the Funkadelic. I still like Dr. John better though.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
The lack of Right Said Fred in this discussion is unforgivable
February 10th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
gin blossoms are a multi-shit wonder…it’s a wonder people let them continue to play music in public.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
What do we name as Everclear’s “hit”?
It’s gotta be ‘Santa Monica’ — buy ‘Father Of Mine’ is my favorite Everclear song.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
7 Mary 3 – Cumbersome
Spacehog – In the Meantime
February 10th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
But Jacob Dylan was sooo yummy.
thata song is in rotation at the health club in their video network currently. he’s one guy i just have to throw up my hands and say ‘yep, there’s at least one guy more handsome than me’

Santa Monica
February 10th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
Santa Monica
February 10th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
Deadeye Dick and “All-American Girl”
I think it’s “New Age Girl”
This is correct.
What do we name as Everclear’s “hit”?
Santa Monica
February 10th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
yeah, always thought that angle of the story was largely ignored.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:58 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
I just saw them when I was at the Phoenix Open last week. I can assure you that they are a one hit wonder because during them playing other stuff someone kept screaming ‘Play Iris!’
February 10th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Cranberries’ song about a fart was also a hit, right?
“Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to? Do you have to? Do you have to let it linger?”
February 10th, 2012 at 10:58 AM

Great band. Deserved more than the one hit.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
I saw both these bands at Farm Aid 1994 at the Super Dome, then again a month later in Morgantown, W.Va., since they were touring together. Why I saw either of them twice, I can’t explain today.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:59 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 10:59 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Who Let The Dogs Out
February 10th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
I was waiting for someone to say the Toadies, but they’re not a 1 hit wonder. Possum Kingdom, Backslider, I Come From the Water.
I’d argue that album is the most underrated album of the 90s.
February 10th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Tantric – Breakdown
February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Oooh I like that song!!
February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
“Backslider” was good, too, but it got no play.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Neneh Cherry, “Buffalo Stance.”
Also, the one about crashing the car through your window on acid.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Just to make the Ohesians blood boil…
OAR – Crazy Game of Poker (seriously, fuck that band)
February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Everclear has about 7-10 really good songs. Their breakout album was all good. Heartspark Dollar Sign, etc.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Umm, lead singer offed himself, don’t see how they can play in public unless they got some shithouse replacemnt.
I will buy you a garden comes on more often than Santa Monica.
Good call.
Came on the radio this Monday after the SB it was the only thing that made me smile that day.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Far Behind.
You.
And there’s another that I’m blanking on.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Bravo. The dude who mentioned The Freshman also gets his share of Paolo points.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Paul Cole – “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?”
A song I yearn to never ever hear again.
But she was a babe of the highest caliber.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Paula Cole, BTW
February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Six Pence None the Richer – Kiss Me
Pretty sure KISS 103.5 played that song every 20 minutes when I was 15.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Loved their song “Down By the Water”, but it never got the same attention.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Kenny Wayne Shephered was so good he seems like an underachiever.
Blue on Black is just a freaking ridiculous monster track.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Toadies – Possum Kingdom
I was waiting for someone to say the Toadies, but they’re not a 1 hit wonder. Possum Kingdom, Backslider, I Come From the Water.
I’d argue that album is the most underrated album of the 90s.
well, one of my favorite bands. first two albums (not pleather) are fucking awesome. but hits mean a lot of people know them from radio rotation. only possum kingdom qualifies. so glad i saw them live at milwaukee summerfest before the broke up
February 10th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Ace of Base – The sign
February 10th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Well shit, now you’ve just reminded me of the week when I played nothing but the song “Mourning” and cried in bed after I broke up with my boyfriend of two years in college. Thanks, asswipe.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Nixons – Sister
February 10th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
anyone mention that Silverchair song yet?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Always love that one because it had the line “behind the boathouse….I’ll show you my dark secret.”
February 10th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Blessed Union of Souls – Hey Leonardo
February 10th, 2012 at 11:02 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
And Spencer shits on the Gin Blossoms. For shame!!
/Team Gin Blossoms
February 10th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Is that the Anthem something song?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
You listened to the wrong radio station. Backslider and I Come From the Water all got radio play, and still do on Lithium on Sirius.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Tomorrow, kick ass song.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:04 AM

Screaming Trees – Nearly Lost You
February 10th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
Sevendust – Denial
February 10th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
Fuck you! If my entire 4 years of college could be put to a soundtrack, that would be the band playing.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Fuck you, dude. Ace of Base had more than one hit.
Don’t Turn Around
The Sign
All That She Wants
Beautiful Life
Cruel Summer
February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Not a 1 hit wonder. Wiki their discography, they have at least 2 songs that I bet you didn’t know were theirs.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Ace of Base – The sign
All That She Wants!
February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Elastica – Stutter and Connection
The Breeders – Cannonball
February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
The Flaming Lips – She Don’t Use Jelly
February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Spencer, no, Linger is not about a fart.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
They’re more than a one hit wonder but I feel like we’d be remiss not to mention Mr. Jones and the Counting Crows in this discussion because they fit in with the era of music we’re talking about. Song was ALWAYS on the radio.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
No way. All That She Wants and Beautiful Life. Multi-hit slammin son of ABBA band.
Blind Melon – No Rain. I know know, Tones of Home kicks ass but wasn’t a “hit”, and then Shannon OD’d.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
While that may be their only radio hit, that band is badass. Home is a great album.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
Green Jelly – Three Little Pigs
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
Until they re-unite – Temple of the Dog – Hunger Strike (Reach Down and Say Hello to Heaven are great too)
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
For a moment I thought you were referring to the Dick Nixons and was going to object.
Which also brings up Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper — “Stuffin’ Martha’s Muffin.” Which may be was too old school for most here.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
I’d argue “Save Yourself” for Stabbing Westward.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
I knew Ace of Base being listed would ruffle some panties. Growing up my sister had that stupid fucking tape and I had to listen to ‘The Sign’ about a 1,000 times.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
Caroline Spine – Sullivans
February 10th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
I agree.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Anytime a thread appears this long from the outside, it’s safe to assume that either music, food, booze, movies, or politics are being discussed. This place is becoming predictable.
/wishes I was here for the start of the conversation
February 10th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
holy shit I hate that crazy game of poker song.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Ever seen them live? They are simply terrible. I confess to listening to them in college a lot too (along with Guster, Pat McGee Band and Dispatch) but only the studio stuff was any good. Their live performances were all terrible.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
I assumed he was joking, because it is Rusty afterall.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
One of the first CDs I bought. Nostalgia.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Winner, IMO
February 10th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Oh, it wasn’t the lead singer turns out, was the guitarist and songwriter, which is why we haven’t heard from them.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
The dude who killed himself was the guitarist and songwriter, not the lead singer.
/FYI’d
February 10th, 2012 at 11:08 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Shannon Hoon shuffled off his nortal coil in the band bus outside of Tip’s in New Orleans.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
your made Astounded wasn’t more of a hit?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
I knew Ace of Base being listed would ruffle some panties. Growing up my sister had that stupid fucking tape and I had to listen to ‘The Sign’ about a 1,000 times.
When I was in elementary school, a friend of mine was a devoted listener of Ace of Base. That was when I knew we couldn’t be friends.
/his parents were religious wack jobs too
February 10th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
OH DEAR GOD.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
she would not be as attractive as Tom Brady.
i don’t see his attraction. eyes are sunk back to his cortex
February 10th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Was that a Bananarama ripoff? Those chicks were slammin.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta
February 10th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
We used to play poker a lot in college and people would play it. It’s catchy and I was always drunk and happy when it came on. It doesn’t bother me.
They have no place in a one-hit wonder convo.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
If you were at a good party and Hurt came on, panties were flying off within minutes.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
That was like the Miami Heat of grunge bands.

ZOMG
*you’re mad
February 10th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Two songs that got ridiculous radio play during the summer of ’98, Flagpole Sitta and “Inside Out” by Eve 6.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta
One of the best 90′s songs, that assclown tried to keep that off iTunes forever.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Yowzas. The Bananarama chicks are still hot.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Definition one hit wonder
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
It’s not that. I just think Tantric is horrible beyond compare.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
One-hit wonder? Yes. But girls always did stupid things when this was played, so I’m ok with it.
/dumps like a truck’d
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Cardigans – Love Fool
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
WTF? Seriously? Are you confused as to what a one-hit wonder is?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Elastica was a great, great album, although they ripped off Wire something awful.
Kim Deal did well in the Breeders, but she will always be the bassist for the Pixies to me.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Stroke 6 – Little Black Backpack
February 10th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
They had quite a few hits…
Semi-Charmed Life
How’s It Gonna Be
Never Let You Go
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
It was. The original Bananrama version still reigns supreme. Song was used in Karate Kid, people don’t often recall.
One of the best lines from Dodgeball: “I’m gonna go put on the thong song and we’ll tear this place apart.”
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
The Union Underground – Turn Me On Mr Deadman
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Third Eye Blind was fucking terrible, Parrish. Simply awful. That bad should have been taken out back and shot after their first album.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Apparently he and the asshole in charge of Mo Thugs catalogue (read, “Ghetto Cowboy”) must hang out together.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Sisqo had a bunch of hits.
I loved Ace of Base. I wish they’d sell Milli Vanilli songs on iTunes.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
dood, they have like 5 hits. Spencer’s 2nd fave band, after Creed of course.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
This probably isn’t even in their top five.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Cruel Summer
Wasn’t that Bananarama?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Sisqo had a bunch of hits.
Link? The Thong Song was the only one I can recall getting consistent radio play.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
First off, I disagree (Slow Motion and Motorcycle Drive-by are fantastic songs), and secondly, you can’t have 4 or 5 top-20 songs and be called a one-hit wonder. It’s right there in the phrase…ONE HIT.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Great, great call. Rememeber listening to that on the radio on the way to work in high school.

Who was that band that sang “I would swallow my pride, I would choke on the rind but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside. Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out, find nothing but faith in nothing.”
February 10th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Always love that one because it had the line “behind the boathouse….I’ll show you my dark secret.”

Third Eye Blind was fucking terrible, Parrish. Simply awful. That bad should have been taken out back and shot after their first album.
On that first CD, almost every song was great. Motorcycle Drive By FTW. Blue was pretty good. They never recovered after booting Kevin Cadogan.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Loved that song.

February 10th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
One of the only times Mad TV has been funny was a “Celebrity Fear Factor” sketch and Sisqo is one of the contestants. Whoever is doing Rogan starts it by saying “Okay, celebrities, and Sisqo…”
February 10th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
not sure…i always associate that song with a young jennifer love hewitt and trip mcneely in that one movie that TBL’s bff jerry o’connell was in about a graduation party.

Their first album was great, after that a bunch of meh. I thought I read somehwere the lead singer and guitarist who were the brainchild had a falling out and that is why it went to shit.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
that song will live on forever in college football highlight packages on youtube.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
Eve 6, Inside Out. You couldnt turn on a radio in Summer of ’98 without hearing that one.
Also Fastball “The Way”
February 10th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
They also covered Iron Man.
Click at your own risk.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Jesus Christ. No, we haven’t, because they have six different albums that went platinum and are the best jazz funk band ever.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Good call.
I would answer with Rockwell, Somebody’s Watching Me.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Tomorrow was the Silver Chair song BTW.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Not one hit wonders.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
112 had Cupid, Peaches and Cream and Only You.
Sisqo had Thong Song and Incomplete as his big hits, but that album with the Thong Song on it went, like, double platinum or some shit.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
They also had “Peaches”
February 10th, 2012 at 11:17 AM

How dare you! Peaches was also a good song. At least it garnered a great reaction when played a frat houses.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:18 AM

February 10th, 2012 at 11:18 AM

Bad Ronald – Let’s Begin
Holy flashbacks to lame high school parties where we’d hide from the cops in the basement.

February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
+1 band with 5 hits beging called a one-hit wonder.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
So no, you are not familiar with the term one hit wonder
February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
The Macarena has to be one of the most successful One Hit Wonders ever — middle school dances FTW!
February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Lit – My Own Worst Enemy
February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
That was their only “hit” but they have a huge discography and were easily the most underrated of the Seattle bands.
Vez and I will see your old school and raise you “I Ain’t Gonna Piss in No Jar.”
February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
they broke up at my college. fuckers only played 30 minutes of their 90 minute show, then went back stage and called it quits.
this post is averaging about 4-5 comments a minute. damn.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Heather Nova – “London Rain.” Brings back memories of listening to KLSU in the late ’90s.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Ugliest athlete – discussion starts and end w/Delonte West. And that “Freshmen” song by Verve Pipe (I think) was pretty big for awhile.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
Did Ben Folds Five have any other hits save for “Brick?” Whatever and Ever Amen is a badass album, but I don’t know if they had any other hits per se.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
agreed. the song (can’t remember the title) where he’s like “Like Jessica Rabbit, she corrects bad habits…” is one I’m fond of.

Has “Bitch,” by Meredith Brooks got a mention? What about “What if God Was One of Us,” by Joan Osborne?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
They didn’t make music for the radio. They had twelve top ten Club Chart hits and I think seven that went to number one, meaning the most popular songs in dance clubs. They are massively successful.
They’ve sold around fifty million albums.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
Trying to decide on which counts as Veruca Salt’s one hit: Seether or Volcano Girls?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
I have no problem admitting this song is awesome in a really ridiculous way.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
If you’re friends with P then you’re friends with me.
Veruca Salt was a 2-hit wonder (Seether and Volcano Girls).

Did Ben Folds Five have any other hits save for “Brick?” Whatever and Ever Amen is a badass album, but I don’t know if they had any other hits per se.
Not sure if he had any more hits.. but he sold a ton of albums and put out a lot of good music. Brick isn’t even one of his better songs. Probably my least favorite.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Army, Underground, Battle of Who Could Care Less.. was Rockin the Suburbs after he went solo?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:23 AM

More than one hit. They were all over the radio in the mid-’90s.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:25 AM
I am now listening to Ben Folds on Pandora, damn I love him
February 10th, 2012 at 11:25 AM
I think Molly was a smaller hit.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
Right, the varying degree of “hit” is the issue. Most of these bands had several alternative hits but most only 1 true Crossover hit.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
Idiot Boyfriend — Jimmy Fallon, The Bum Bum Song– Tom Green
February 10th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
I got it covered, don’t worry.
I’ve been listening to Pulp this entire time through this thread. A band whose inability to make it big in America is fucking baffling. Best pop band of the last thirty years by a wide margin.

“I Shot the Sheriff (But I Also Shot Five Hookers Dead)” — Craig James’s other hit
February 10th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
I admit, I bought into the 90s swing phase. Squirrel Nut Zippers, Cherry Poppin Daddies, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:28 AM
You didn’t enjoy “But Anyway”?
February 10th, 2012 at 11:28 AM
I think Molly was a bigger mainstream hit, but Plowed was by far the superior song. Also “Wax Ecstatic” was a killer jam. Sponge was very underrated.

I saw Blues Traveler open for The Rolling Stones at the Panthers’ stadium. Worst acoustics for a venue of all time, worst opening act ever, too.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:28 AM

I will forever associated that time in the 90s with Swingers.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Loved Blues Traveler. Saw them live at least 5 or so times.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
And Blues Traveler, Jesus, way too many hits. They packed Red Rocks every 4th of July for about 15 years.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:29 AM

This more than this. Ben Folds is one of my favorites (he also went to the U). Agree Brick was his best radio hit but his later solo stuff is the best. Songs for Silverman probably my favorite album of his.
Used to be all about them in high school.

Their energy was solid, it was really just the acoustics of the stadium that ruined it. Plus it was a Panthers kind of crowd so the crowd was deathly quiet.

That fits the theme, but that’s from wayyyyy before your time. Might as well go with “Three Little Fishies.”
That song is a Frankenstein of stolen musical notions.

Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon
That was Urge Overkill off the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack, which was a Neil Diamond remake. Urge Overkill had Sister Havanna and other hits.

I had gotten some of Maria McKee’s albums (she was on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack for “If Love Is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags”). Her voice is a favorite of mine. I wish her career would have gotten more traction.

Oh Edwin McCain also had Could Not Ask For More. Wow, thinking of him in not one-hit wonder terms is crazy. He also had a local hit in the Carolinas with that duet with Hootie – Solitude.

February 10th, 2012 at 12:06 PM

Another story about Morphine. At the U I ahd a teammate that had a lunchtime show on the campus radio station. I would come in and guest co-host sometimes and once I played this song, not remembering it had the f-word in it. Good times.

In Texas it was the country version. And it was almost always followed up by Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon”.

February 10th, 2012 at 12:43 PM
That song came out in early 2000s. It is their best known hit. I have heard a few others on the radio and in bars here and there. They are one of my favorite bands, love their stuff.

Not one mention of Ice Ice Baby. What a shame.
February 10th, 2012 at 12:44 PM
I mean, it can’t all be nostalgia, can it?
Yes it can. This is also the same decade that spawned all of the boy bands that dominated pop radio and fundamentally changed the type of music that MTV showed.

February 10th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Yeah I miss them showing not at all gay bands that chicks liked watching like Poison.
Good point. I guess the lesson is that MTV has always sucked.
February 10th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Yeah, but that started to become a hit by 98. 80% of the decade without the boy bands is not so bad. It’s still a B-.
February 10th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
It was a stretch, but I think my point stands.
Mole’s point was better. But MTV still embraced alt rock in the mid 90s. Then these boy bands came into existence and the only place you could hear rock in the pre-Napster, iTunes, Youtube days was on a couple of stations on the radio.
February 10th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
God that was the truth. Shampoo metal was a guaranteed panty liquifier until about ’92.
February 10th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Maybe I just have a different view, because rock radio in the Boston area was outstanding.
February 10th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
God that was the truth. Shampoo metal was a guaranteed panty liquifier until about ’92.
I remember seeing an interview with Kevin Dubrow talking about how, after Quiet Riot got signed to a major label and put out “Metal Health” that all of the sudden record companies were trying to sign any band that was guitar heavy and had a double bass drum.
February 10th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Maybe I just have a different view, because rock radio in the Boston area was outstanding.
That’s true. I grew up in Houston, which is not a very good radio town at all. So my experience was different.

I just got an e-mail from a concert hall in Springfield telling me there is a Switchfoot concert coming up. a Ctrl F tells me they haven’t been mentioned and they sound pretty one-hitty.

A whole other topic — awful bands who coughed up one good song.
I nominate Quiet Riot, “Cum on Feel the Noize.” They were godawful, but they out-Sladed Slade on that one.

In that category I also insert the aforementioned Korn and “Got the Life.”
As well as Fred Durnst’s Aborted Scrotum (aka Limp Bizkit) and “Nookie.”
