Ballin’: Timofey Mozgov Gets Payback on Blake Griffin with a Hard Foul, Nuggets Beat Clippers
New York 102, Chicago 105: That’s 10 losses in 12 games for the Knicks, who couldn’t stop Derrick Rose every time they needed to (32 points, 13 assists). Rose torched them for 15 in the fourth quarter. Iman Shumpert had no chance. Amare had 34 (missed a 3 that would have tied the game with :11 left) and Melo scored 26 points on 26 shots. Amare and Melo took 53 of the team’s 90 shots. The New York starters played between 36 and 42 minutes. Good luck in Boston tonight, guys.
Memphis 96, Atlanta 77: Tony Allen doesn’t fear Josh Smith. Rudy Gay got flashy in the open court. The Hawks played as if they were exhausted from a five-game road trip, trailing by as many as 30 in the second half.
Portland 92, Sacramento 95: More interesting – that the Kings rallied to victory, snapping a five-game losing streak, or that Jimmer didn’t play for the first time this season? Thornton played 41 minutes, Tyreke Evans played 40, and the team’s other rookie guard, Isaiah Thomas, played 17 minutes. If you don’t have room for Jimmer, trade him. Thomas had a tremendous block on Wes Matthews.
LA Clippers 91, Denver 112: The Nuggets blew the game wide open with a torrid 3rd quarter (65 percent shooting) and Timofey Mozgov’s hard foul on Blake Griffin sent a message and appeared to fire up the road team, which avenged a home loss to the Clippers last week. The Paper Clips appeared tired, and seemed content to take 3-pointers (27 attempts) instead of trying to get to the foul line (5-of-12). The Nuggets were a blistering 12-of-21 from behind the arc.
Golden State 119, Utah 101: Stephen Curry had 29 points and 12 assists, David Lee scored 23 points and took 14 rebounds and the Warriors easily dispatched the Jazz, who were without Devin Harris, Earl Watson and Raja Bell. The lack of backcourt defense was obvious – Curry and Monta Ellis (33 points) shot a combined 23-for-35.

Good for him.
Surprised this hasn’t happened more.
February 3rd, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Does Sacramento have a D League affiliate? Couldn’t hurt as far as Jimmer’s development.
February 3rd, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Absolutely nothing wrong with Mozgov’s foul. Griffin was the one off-balance.
February 3rd, 2012 at 10:50 AM
How do you think Timofey’s parents felt when they found out a week later they spelled their kid’s name wrong? Real jackasses those people are.
February 3rd, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Hell yeah Mozgov.
February 3rd, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Nice foul by Mozgov. Griffin will be seeing more of that in the future I think.

1st team all-rookie

the Kings rallied to victory, snapping a five-game losing streak,
Jimmer didn’t play for the first time this season
Top 5 rookie form
Amare and Melo took 53 of the team’s 90 shots
ball hogs much?
The Paper Clips appeared tired
They were tired. That said, it’s no excuse for their form.

memphis and atlanta need new unis. BAD.
February 3rd, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Is he really the best option for a 3 on the entire team? The play seemed to be drawn up for him but I cannot believe it. He had to be a decoy or break from the actual intent of the play.
February 3rd, 2012 at 10:58 AM
one of those wins was against the Pistons. who else did they beat?
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:00 AM
missed a 3 that would have tied the game with :11 left)
Why is he taking that shot?
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Baron Davis is like that sign you see in bars sometimes, “Free Beer Tomorrow”. Every week, Baron Davis will be back next week. Well I look forward to that.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:04 AM
My thoughts exactly.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:05 AM
So everyone hates Blake Griffin because of the covergae of his “dunk?” Is that the new fad?

Atlanta needs to go back to their old colors…and logo. The colors they have now are just blah… and their court is hideous.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:07 AM
And at this point, people are talking themselves into him so much….he’s not going to come in and rip through the league like 07. Similar to those late-season waiver pick ups that people freak out about, then a week later the player is running up DNPs (recent examples Bibby and Murphy last year).
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Didnt think that was a “hard” foul on Griffin. Dude was off balance
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:09 AM
A trade for Nash probably isn’t going to help that out but hey you might have won the game 120-119
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:10 AM
The good thing about drawing a play for your PF/center is that it’s your best option at getting a wide open 3. The bad thing is that you’re PF/center is shooting a fucking 3.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:10 AM
I’ll repeat what everyone else is saying: why was Amare taking a three to tie the game?
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:12 AM
your*

That’s the type of stuff that’s going to happen to Griffin in the playoffs. I said it the other day when Jason was going nuts over that dunk on Perkins. Again, in May or June, Perkins puts him on his ass.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:13 AM
He hit a couple game tying/winning threes last year…but I understand the bewilderment. I guess when you can have Melo loaf around and chuck a 35 footer to end the game (he did), you’d rather have your 7 footer spot up at the arc.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Did he not make a three in a similar situation last year only it was like .1 seconds too late? If he makes the three everyone is praising Dantoni.
/see Popovich, Gregg.

I’ll repeat what everyone else is saying: why was Amare taking a three to tie the game?
He and Melo took 53 of the Knicks’ 90 shots. One of them two was taking that shot.
So everyone hates Blake Griffin because of the covergae of his “dunk?” Is that the new fad?
Not really. He just got owned by Mozgov last night and people are coming back to Earth on him.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Wait so was the chick that got arrested for stalking Cashman and the one Daulerio interviewed as his mistress the same person?
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:18 AM
I don’t mind the Amare play, because like people have said, that play has worked in the past. But the Melo thing was so horrible. He took his time getting the ball up the court and then he didn’t even fucking square up. The Knicks are hilarious.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:19 AM
I think you are making too much of this…he got fouled. It happens.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:19 AM
Rasheed Wallace on NBA Street says fuck you.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:19 AM
anyone know why in the hell Amare was taking that 3 at the end of the game last night?
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:22 AM
Because Blake Griffin was fouled hard on the other side of the country.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Good point. Plus, he draws the play up for someone like Fields, the media kills him b/c he isn’t one of the “stars” despite probably being the best option.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Yup, that is going to be an interesting he said/she said.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Speaking of Blake Griffin, is anyone else as impressed as I am when Kevin Durant throws it down? The guy is really skinny, but he dunks with incredible power (presumably because of his height and arm length). Seems like every time he dunks, the ball somehow goes back to half court.
February 3rd, 2012 at 11:29 AM
I think you are making too much of this…he got fouled. It happens.
When you have everyone and their webmaster making one dunk into the world’s greatest thing ever, it’s going to happen the other way too (when he gets fouled).
Rasheed Wallace on NBA Street says fuck you.
It’s like burnt hamburgers without the cheese
