Upperclassmen Attrition Leaves Auburn’s 2012 Prospects Looking Bleak
Auburn’s 2011 team was raw and inexperienced. Expect that trend to continue. Forty-three percent of the Tigers’ 2008 class never played a down for the school, and the attrition rate for Chizik’s 2009 (No. 19 overall) and 2010 (No. 4 overall) looks strikingly similar.
According to the Birmingham News, the Tigers have already lost 43 percent of their 2009 and 2010 commits, including 40 percent of the four and five-star guys for reasons including suspensions, transfers, robbery arrests and failure to qualify initially. That’s Michigan defense under Rich Rodriguez level losses.
The monster post-title 2011 class has held together. Though, the double coordinator loss leaves them with just 15 recruits on board for 2012. Playing Clemson, Georgia and three BCS title contenders in the SEC West, it’s looking like Auburn’s in for another rough year. A BCS title grants one a longer leash, though we may be gauging his seat temperature by this time next year.

I have a feeling it may be the Frazier show next year. We’ll see how he progresses. Malzahn had a quote on his way out that he wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. I’m more concerned with the offensive line that I think is going to improve next year then be world beaters in 2013.

The biggest issue with Clemson is their OL, and that is a major concern (I think they lose 4 starters). If they have players behind those starters (I have no clue if they do) they should be pretty good offensively again.

I think Auburn fans understand that Tuberville took his last two seasons off, hence the problem of not retaining players (two never made it to campus and were convicted of murder, for example).
Auburn will be better than 8-5 next year.
